Another bit of irony, regarding the whole “This all could have been prevented” bit is that Shaun was so gung-ho to be the proactive hero because of his stagnation in life and Liz dumping him for it. Had he been a slacker, tucked in at home on the couch, they would have all been fine. Shaun getting it stuck in his head that he needed to make an immediate change is what lead to all of this.

This movie hits that sweet spot all parody movies should aim for: Replicating the elements they're spoofing to the best effect. The comedy works as well as it does because everything else from direction to sound emulates a spooky zombie movie perfectly. Mel Brooks level of dedication.

Shaun of the Dead (2004) is less of a parody to me and more of a homage to the zombie genre, whilst also being it's own thing entirely, it has the blueprint to Dawn but I find it's themes so resonant, ultimately it's a film about maturing, moving past stagnation and looking forward in lieu of looking back :)

I had no idea about Zombieland being called "Reddit the movie" because the last I heard about it was back in 2009 when I saw it originally. It genuinely feels like he goes digging and addresses aspects that at first don't seem necessary, but quickly become important as the review goes on or becomes a capstone. Biggest examples, the rant on Hate Watching or... basically everything with the Channel Awesome movies.

I remember watching Shaun of the Dead when I was very young and it was playing on TV. Pete's scene in the shower freaked me out terribly. So much so, since my mind was very... how do I describe this. I am at a much higher function now as an adult compared to then. As a child whose autism wasn't yet curbed or controlled, it made me fear ever going to the bathroom incase someone like that was waiting there. It haunted me for a very long time as was my time with Resident Evil 2 in the intro scene and with the basketball court. Those things are the deepest memories I have as a young lad. Nightmares I wish to properly confront as an adult with the proper opportunity, I still love both of them and watch Dead on a yearly basis. But it is this month I get to properly confront my fear of Resident Evil 2 by playing the OG version via GOG, with some proper patches to better enhance the experience even if the one I grew up with was a mix of the PS2 version my cousin introduced to me but also the N64 version my older brother played back then. Wonderful video, I can't wait to see what else is locked up in the vault of suggestions/requests by the star bros.
