ABOUT SHAUN TILBURG:
Shaun joined the Phoenix Symphony as Principal Percussion in November of 2013. He began his studies at Rice University’s Shepherd School of Music, where he earned a Bachelor’s degree. Shaun went on to complete a Master’s degree at the University of Houston, and received an Artist Diploma from DePaul University in Chicago. Hi, New York here. I was trained by my teacher to throw drop. Bailey method. I had the privilege to study with the late great Ronald Gould, and Elden Bailey. I got the prototype wrist twisters over 30 years ago. I play conventional grip, with Becker, Good man, and Holmes sticks. Enjoyed your segment.

At what Q Note mark can a player be confident that their doubles, if clean & loose/smooth are at a professional level?

I'd advise you from thinking like this. There are no benchmarks, only improved control and musicianship. Most professional players focus on day to day improvements and long term trends rather than benchmarks to meet. If you think of being a professional as attaining a certain level of skill, you likely won't get far.

There has to be a point at which the notes fill a certain amount of time and meet the requirements of a musical roll. There has to a limit of the amount of notes per Q note. Been playing 55 yrs. so I’m not unaware of technique & practice. Thanks
