All the younger generation probably think Shaun was just the best at pipe, but don't know that he literally won all Slopestyle and pipe comps at the same time and wins Skate vert Gold at Xgames in the summer. Shaun's a unicorn

Its impossible to overstate what the Bomb Hole provides to this community. This is a conversation about a person and their legacy that we have desperately needed for 20 years. The same ppl who hate on Shaun are the same ppl who begged their parents to buy them a Dragon or a SW Pro Model. I was there, I saw them do it. We ALL wanted to be him. Really can't believe this finally happened... Absolutely amazing interview and long overdue for Shaun to speak to the community; this interview and the documentary are certainly good PR for him. People need to be willing to hit reset and have an open mind. I know the haters like to say he didn't give back to the sport but there is an entire generation that grew up being inspired by his success. This can't be talked about enough, probably no one else has inspired that many to join the sport. It's pretty clear that he was motivated by being focused on competing at the highest level and pushing back on all the distractions. Certainly seems to have applied a lot of strategy during his competition which shouldn't be a negative; look at the early days of snurfing/snowboarding and it was definitely the same. Not sure there has been a better Bomb Hole episode that this one; tough to top this one, this might be the peak.

I have to admit that I was not the biggest Shaun White fan but it had nothing to do with him personally and more to do with the fact that the media portayed him as the "best snowboarder in the world". As a PNW guy snowboarding was all about powder and the backcountry and I thought the fact that guys like Terje, Travice Rice, Jeremy Jones, etc were not discussed was frustrating. Again, this not not Shaun's fault. I would love to see Shaun compete in Natural Selection or do an AK part in a movie so he can showcase other elements of his snowboarding portfolio.

Half way through here and already wishing the interview was longer. I remember encountering Shaun when he was featured in Tony Hawk’s Secret Skatepark Tour video, back in the day of him as a youth. This interview really grew my respect for him and I appreciate his honest candor especially after being under such speculation and critical eye for a lifetime; that’s rough on anyone. He is an ATHLETE. He’s put his stock in the SPORT. For those to deny him credibility based on things like not partying, that’s weighing the hard on an element of the accouterments that tend to come with the LIFESTYLE of a snowboarder- not the sport or art itself. And seriously, consider what it’s like to be in a top position and such a dedicated competitor; it’s isolating. People need to cut each other some slack. Honestly, Shaun is not one of my favorite riders as I prefer a looser style, but I give him mad respect for his positions on what was shared in this video. Right on, Shaun. Well done. Hope people lighten up and show some appreciation and respect where it’s due. Thanks for being willing to share your heart. Hope “retirement” serves you well. This is one of your best episodes yet, guys! Bravo.

Its good to see him back grounded and in a great headspace. I remember when things were getting out of control and he thought he was a rock and roll star lol, wearing those tight leather pants and acting off key. But now its just good to see that hes come full circle and back to his roots. The whole Burton and Donna issue does suck. He rode his ass off for them and to write him off that way is shit. I mean their track record aint too great. Cut the whole UNINC team, bailed on Forum, then cutting countless other riders. I get that its a business but theres no loyalty in that.

Shaun is a legend. It's great to see he's a good human and get a glimpse into his mindset and why he stayed somewhat private. When people don't see the "behind the scenes" reasons for actions, they fill in the blanks on the person and his intentions, often incorrectly. Sounds like the community haters had it wrong. Turning down big money is respectable if it would taint the industry. Interesting to see the trick struggles and his mindset on progression.

I know Shaun is a lightning rod person in shredding, but there’s no denying that his talent was and is next level, once in a generation. While I may not like the spin to win era that he is largely responsible for kicking off and prefer the stilo of a Michalchuk to a double cork 1440, he did what the judges were rewarding and is a true competitor. There’s also no telling where snowboarding would be worldwide without him bringing such international hype to the pipe. Pretty insane to think about really.
