You're paying your dues, so it is what it is. Every doctor before you had to walk the same road and be paid low. I am sure you knew this going in so no surprise. Unfortunately, health insurance companies and hospitals extract much of the profits now from doctors and nurses. About 10-15% of profits go to you guys. Being a doctor is becoming much less about becoming rich compared to other professions as there are software engineers at Google who earn $500K at 28 now. This is comparable to a plastic surgeon salary and is insane. But no surprise, as who you work for and the industry and whether you are unionized and all sorts of factors now determine compensation. In this case, there are too many middle men extracting your service value before you get paid. Then what you guys get is extracted by Uncle Sam again so there is that. This is pretty insane situation to be fair, but something for people to consider before they decide to go into this profession that has changed so much from when your dad was a doctor.

I want more $$ for you! $2979 should be every paycheck even though not counting tax, that would still be under $19 an hr at 80 hrs a week. The specialties should be compensated based on hours worked. Maybe I am biased, I am currently a nursing student doing clinicals for free 😂. For the amount of education and the fact that you are providing care, means you should be getting paid properly (not pennies). Lets call for some reform! haha

@7BloodfireАй бұрын
Oh, and if you want tips on how to build it out, look up Red Gregory, Thomas Frank Explains (he has a "second brain" notion system), and Ali Abdaal also sometimes shows his stuff. Going WAY further down the rabbit hole, you'll find the Life Operating System (LOS) by August Bradley. He shows you the ins and outs of his builds, which is where I got started. For the best navigation of whatever you do decide to build in Notion, I highly recommend having a main home page with a database that holds every separate life or hobby or interest area on different pages in that database, and give each an icon or emoji so you know it by the symbol. And then on every single page in your system, add a synced block to the top right corner with those icons. Link those icons to those main work areas, and any changes you make to that block on any page will auto-update in all the rest. You litrlerally just copy the synced block itself and paste that onto each page. I call it Quick Nav. It allows you to have multiple "Workspaces" without actually having to pay for what Notion calls Workspaces. Keeps everything separate. I have an additional page for original databases in case I ever accidentally delete one of its copies from one of my pages somewhere. And then I have a double-layered research system made of one database for major areas of interest (software, gardening, baking, computer repair, etc), which is linked to a sub-fatabase for multiple items to fit under each categorized main item (under Food, I might have a page for zucchini recipes, another for how to cook potroast, another for Camping-Friendly or Traveling-Friendly Dinners, etc.) Beyond that, it's always good to just start with what you need, and then reorganize later.

Interesting that you mention having to pay for parking at your job - I'm considering medicine and currently work at a restaurant full-time. At my restaurant, employees are expected to pay the parking meters or parking ramp fee every shift with their own funds, because the city will ticket and tow if you do not. The parking meters cost $1.25/hour and the parking ramp costs about $100/year. To me, this is ridiculous, but I was fortunate to be given a parking pass for the parking ramp by my boss - dozens of other employees are paying for their own parking, which lowers their already measly wage. I think it's pretty messed up and shows how much an employer cares for their employees, but maybe that's just me. Aside from that, I have been a viewer for a good while, and am so thankful and interested in the experiences and sentiments you have shared apropos of your education and work. Not only does it feel good to follow you and see your growth, but the things you share have really helped me come closer to a decision on whether or not medicine is a good choice for me. I'm 24 and struggle with commitment, and the idea of med school and residency for the next ~10 years is very daunting, and I know your content has helped others who may have been in a similar situation as my own. I'm sure you're thanked often, but I personally would like to express my gratitude.

However, at the end of all of this, it's pretty much 1 of the if not the highest paying field there is... So... It's worth it I guess lol. As long as you're okay with being worked to death. You’re a salaried employee that is kind of how it works; hours are meaningless for salaried workers. Also to be fair people watch your channel because of your chosen profession so saying you would make the same on KZbin if you weren’t a doctor is probably not accurate. I’m all for paying residents more but only if the cost isn’t pushed on the patient but that’s exactly who would pay. Hospitals will push the cost onto patients who can barely afford to get care. Kind of disappointing that your turned into one of those doctors who constantly complain about the work and pay.
