I was in ICU in October 9th apparently I pulled out my tube from my throat. I only remember them yelling at me no Janet no!! Lol shit happens. I had a soar throat for 3 weeks. As a patient I only ask Doctors to be honest and not beat around the bush. Never sugar coat the truth. I have SPC and it's 100% terminal. I will not survive and I will be signing a DNR. I'm prepaid for my funeral. This is life.. all comes to and end

Shaun, this rotation too shall pass. You're working with the sickest patients in the hospital and they need you. I would imagine that anesthesiologists spend some time in the ICU as many patients have been through life changing surgeries. Good luck. You'll do fine.

After emergency surgery for a PE, I was in ICU overnight and I have to say I never even imagined such a level of care existed. After what I'd just been through, that team really helped me calm down and feel like I was going to be just fine. I can't imagine the stress of that job but certainly you'd have to feel like you accomplish a lot every day. Perhaps more than most other roles in the hospital.

Shaun, it is tough at times but very rewarding. I've been retired for a while from medicine but it was a great journey for me. I started out in the Navy as a general duty Corpsman and in that role I rotated first into Urology then Internal Medicine and then ER. I attended many sub-specialty schools while in the Navy....Emergency Medical Technician then the Navy sent me off to school for Paramedic. While in the hospital setting I worked in the ICU and you are correct, it's a very tight knit group and I loved it. Hang in there Shaun! You're doing well!

It’s amazing to watch a parallel life that I could’ve lived when deciding to go to medical school myself back in 86 at the naval Academy. I chose to be a builder because I fell in love with it on my off time from Navy med school but often wonder what my life would’ve be like had I taken that path. From the AC/DC, you play in your car to me wanting to get involved in pediatrics definitely and look at what may have been. But I do fully enjoy my life and what I do. I’m enjoying your journey thanks and best to you Frank .
