Hey! Would you ever consider travelling to see how medicine is in other parts of the world? In Australia we get a lot of travelling Dr’s and nurses due to our universal healthcare. Ps good luck with step 3!

@ definitely apply for Australia (in in Perth and I think they do intakes around August. We had a production team follow some international first year drs around in the er and filmed them if is called “junior Drs down under” on sbs you might be able to find it on KZbin if not a vpn. I’m not employed as a medical worker but I spend a lot of time in hospital (two hospital trips in the last week - I had Mycoplasma pneumonia, that turned into double pneumonia and a two day stay and then back Friday afternoon with severe left side chest pains to be told I now have pleurisy of my left lung. So back on steroids. I should have stayed in my o2 stayed in the low 90’s I have constant chest pains. I have been sick for 5 weeks now!! I am 43 non smoker. My teenage/adult kids has the bug too and recovered within a week! Ugh.

It really doesn’t matter since you’ll have to take it in college anyways! I’d always say A&P since it’s more medicine related but Physics will actually be on your MCAT

I would take physics in high school because college physics is harder w/o a proper physics base from high school. I speak from experience. A&P does not need a foundation.

Just intervened in the nick of time when a first-year resident prescribed Cyclobenzaprine 10 mg for an 89-year-old lady. This drug can lead to light-headedness, heart irregularities, and Zerostomia. I changed it to Tizanidine 2 mg. How would you have handled this, Dr. Andersen? p.s. The patient has orthostatic bp.

Did you get help in applying for the different med schools? Or had to look them up on your own and then apply? Also, I'm going to get my BSN first (nursing) so I can knock out clinical experience while also going to college. Do you think some of the experience through faining the BSN (and working right after) will help them to see me as a serious candidate for med school? I already have lots of life experience (nontrad student, 17 years after high school, but really good grades, 4.0, Phi Theta Kappa honor society, etc befkre transferring over to OU for the BSN, and worked as a corrections officer for 4 years dealing with medical emergencies and 90 hours a week schedule I was used to anyway.) I'm so scared they wont take me after I take/pass the MCAT and finally get to apply, lol.

I know for sure that's a yes. First, there are doctors who own their own practice (private practice, takes about 4 to 6 years to get enough clients so it's built up enough). And second, many doctor youtubers and non-youtubers have their own businesses. All different sorts. Some are into real estate, some use youtube for income, others have websites and sell courses, and others do other things. I'm an indie author and artist and own my own publishing company. I'm about to start college, and with any luck, in 4 years I'll be going to med school. I'll still own my business, but it won't interfere with med school cuz it's basically a passive income type. Just take down the gigs from Fiverr, etc, and just do vlogging so it's nothing too time-consuming. One of the authors I've read is also a doctor / author, and I know there are other doctor/authors.
