Great shave Chris, that was really good. 😌👏 Firstly, thank you for the kind words. I love watching all the guys do their shaves, you can always pick up ideas from people, even the little things all help. I did a lot of that over Christmas when I decided to shave the goatee off. As I hope I mentioned in the stretching video, the idea of going up using your opposite hand is all about letting the razor glide, because if someone can be smooth with a shavette, they will be much less likely to cut yourself. Most of your shave was great , and certain parts like the the way you lined up around your goatee to me were perfect; stop briefly, line up the razor and go. 😌👏

If someone is thinking of shaving with a shavette know this, you will cut and nick yourself some at first but if you keep at it you will get some fantastic shaves and will have learned a new skill. It's worth it. Also Parker shavettes are very inexpensive and easy to use. Thanks for the video Chris!

IAMCDB hahaha oh you poor thing, just wait until you see all the pretty shiny straight razors. Your RAD is just beginning! And you are going the slightly harder, yet badass route. Shavettes are inherently harder then real straight razors as they have no margin for error. Once you master these, a real straight razor will be a walk in the park. Great shavette shave for a newbie. I just want to say that you well need to stretch your skin and you do that by pulling your skin opposite the direction of your blade stroke. I don't know if you ever mapped your beard, but you need to know when your beard grows in what direction so the your first pass will be going in the same direction. Second pass should be going across the grain and final pass going in the opposite direction of your beard growth which is called against the grain. Also, it is important to use your opposite hand when shaving against the grain in the neck and face which is an upward stroke. So you would be using your left hand to go ATG on your right side and then vice-versa. Now, what I would recommend to get proficient in doing opposite hand ATG shaving is to lather your face like you are going to shave but use a butter knife to practice the different moves just to remove the lather. You will find that you will be more proficient using your non-dominant hand as your practice with the butter knife. Basically, you want to gsin muscle memory. Good luck!
@IAMCDB4 жыл бұрын
Thanks so much Joseph. I mapped the beard when I first started with DE razors many years ago and already shave that way with DE razors. Thanks so much for the bread knife tip. A couple of folks have recommended this now and I will definitely give it a go. Thanks again for the tips, I really appreciate it.

Dave Card is like Zorro with a shavette or Weck. Super solid technique. i count bloodless shaves as triumphs and on that basis you did a great job. Where you are uncomfortable finding that grip for the second pass i use the bread knife grip championed by one of our Swedish friends - it's really helpful especially since you are not looking at your face but still want control over the blade. The back of the head is challenging with a shavette and i can only blame the cat so many times! Think of it like combing the non-existent hair! T

Hi Trunker. I agree, Diamond Dave is absolute Ninja Class, as are the Swedish Three:) I was watching Frank today and he showed his bread knife sort of grip and it will be really helpful. Thinking of it as combing non-existent hair on the dome is an excellent way to think of it. Thanks again sir!

I’ve been using my Shavette a lot more lately too. The length of the blade doesn’t let me get as meticulous in some areas. It s also still really awards and sometimes frustrating with my non dominant hand. I always feel like I need to touch it up with a DE afterwards. I’m also used to buffing in some areas which I can’t do with the Shavette. In any case I’ll keep it up. The only blade I have for my Dovo Shavette is their own Dovo blades. I haven’t used the half DE blades yet but maybe that’s worth a shot. Stay blessed brother.

Thanks for watching Andre. From what I remember from many years ago, straight razors are a little more forgiving than the shavettes.
