Love this! I have 4 Persians and get them ALL shaved at least once a year. Their fur grows back perfectly fine and I know they feel great afterward!

My male Persian was severely matted, because I had neglected to comb him every day. My DIL came to my rescue and shaved him, but it was a BATTLE! It took more than 3 hours with several timeouts to accomplish this feat. Your precious kitty is so well behaved. You are a confident, take charge person who handles her kitty so well. Thanks so much for your kind words. Oh my 3 hours ... well it was worth it. My old girl is very easy going I have others who tell me STOP IVE HAD ENOUGH and I stop and go back later in the day or on the next day. The blade gets hot on their skin so that could be part of it too. But the job is done and you can get a nice comb with long teeth and get him used to being combed regularly.

@@barbcoleus a cat may be impossible to do as my daughter, adopted a Persian , a yr later was badly matted, told her have to comb. at least once a week, thoroughly. I couldn't get out of crate, was hissing, swatting, professional groomer couldn't either. Was done at vets under sedation. But now she can do him herself, just patience & little at time, Bites & scratches be very serious, I think I have built up immunity from many, many ×

@@Memow-pk1ng sadly that happens. Cats are adopted after so many years of neglect snd they are terrified. So the only option is going to a vet snd getting thrm shaved under sedation. BUT you can start working with them immediately and combing them daily even though they don’t have much coat. They will get used to the feel of a comb plus you’ll be taking knots out when they are tiny. Notice I said comb not brush. Cat bites are bad. I’m not a doctor they need to be looked at by one

You can also just start with a tool called a safari dog mat remover that I got from Chewy . It can just pull mats out so your car doesn’t have to be completely shaved. I’m sorry the rescue didn’t fully groom the kitty before you got it.

It’s an Andis two speed electric not battery with a #10 blade. I have two blades so I can change one out when it gets too hot

Congratulations you are very good and patient person and that angel cat is georgous. I have an exotic shorthair and every summer i go with him at the "salon" for a lion hair cut.I can not make it myself. 🥰😻👍

Thank you for sharing your techniques. Persians require so much care & attention to maintain their coats. We are first time Persian owners, and our groomer refuses to shave ours or trim him. I want a teddy bear cut for the summers when it gets hot. I plan to share your video with her.

American - Brit Chick you’re welcome. I don’t know why your groomer won’t shave your kitty. It’s difficult or impossible to do a teddy bear cut like they can do for dogs. I think it’s because the skin is so stretchy.maybe that’s it? I just do my cats and we live in Florida where it’s very warm most of the year so it works for me

Your groomer probably doesn't know how to shave them.Check another groomer that specializes in cats.This one lives in Florida like you ask or get her.

I understand your opinion However my cats are indoor totally. I live in Florida where the temperature in the house is a steady 77°. Year round so there’s no chance of them getting s sunburn I fully understand skin cancer. I have basal cell carcinoma and have them removed regularly but I go outside where it is warm and humid. There are fleas here and also the chance of getting ringworm with the heat and humidity. . Maybe shaving is the wrong word since they are clipped and their fur is no shorter than short hair cats. your comment really doesn’t apply to me or my cats. Probably someone who shaved their cat to the skin snd let’s them roam around outside in northern climates would find your comment useful. Frankly I find it useless. I see you have no videos so is it just your purpose to get up and attack others May I suggest you look for places to volunteer your time. You obviously have too much free time

I thought I explained why I shave them in my video and also my responses to other comments. Maybe you missed them or maybe you just wish to attack me??? Again, this is South Florida, home of fleas and fungus. Which I don’t have and don’t want. If I’m showing them they are in full coat of course. You can certainly do what you want with your cats. And finally a brush is totally wrong for Persians. Please don’t offer incorrect information. To keep keep their cat in good shape if they do t want to shave they need to get a comb with wide spaced long teeth.

I'm in Fla too, West Coast now an old retired senior. Ex groomer, & groomed, shaved, u name it., dogs, horses, goats, even ferrets. Sometimes is necessary to shave ppl. need stopcritizing I've always shaved down my cats for summer. About now time to do, by Jun. grown back& do again, They are short haired, but one male has very thick hair. & definitely the sanitary has to be kept up. I do #7 reverse, on top body, 10 under body They look strange , the stripes all gone on tiger's, & mackerel tabbies, grow back exactly same. & fleas easier to pick off, even tho use topical, still pick them up., at end when wearing off. No, can't use guards on clippers, need be very careful rear leg flap, & under elbows. & nipples. I accidently cut whiskers, take long time grow back.

I love the video the only thing I do is use a razor shaper with a guard from sally beauty supply and take care of the chest I like it full kinda liony he’s my baby boy so he looks shaped

Great idea!!! Sometimes I use thinning shears to clean off areas. I’m working by myself so....... She has a very furry face so sometime I take off fur with a stripper. I’ll have to look into razor shaper at Sally’s. That’s where I get the products to keep my razor clean and sharp

You can try a product for humans called Pantene de tangler. It’s a spray. But I agree sometimes is best to just start over, it will grow back and the cat won’t be in pain while you’re trying to pull out mats

Shaved off? It’s clipped to a short hair cat length I live in S Florida so although they are totally indoor cats they are more comfortable with short hair. I think shaving is really the wrong word.

@@barbcoleus thank you so MUCH! I adopted a persian cat who is pitifully matted in areas, and I mean just pitiful, and I want to clean her up. I already tore into the agency for adopting her out in that condition and they offered a free shaving. I'd rather but the clippers and do it right, myself.
