I have a cat that tries to kill me when I put her into her carrier for the vet (she was feral as a baby). Then she plays dead the entire time the vet handles her (seriously she falls over like Mayo did, goes limp and then never moves again - no matter what the vet does to her! ). Once she's back in the carrier and I pick it up to take her home she tries to claw me to death through the carrier sides!! As soon as we're home she jumps in my lap and demands pets and kisses. Cats are NUTSO!

I love hearing you tell Mayo he's a good boy. It's crazy to me how much a cat can respond to vocal praise. I know how different cats and dogs are so for the longest time, I never really called my kitty a good girl because it seemed strange to do with a cat. But when I started saying it one day, she started actually listening to me and doing the things I asked of her! She would even come to me on command without ever being trained to do so. I never understood why people don’t talk to their cats. I do it all the time and they love it. Mine chat right back at me, know their names, and often listen to what I want. Not every cat meows back but my baby girl trills and mrrs at me happily. My one boy even went deaf and so I make big hand gestures to get his attention so he knows I’m talking to it. I use some specific gesture commands and he still gets my meaning. Cats love being talked to.

I find it a little strange, worrying, that the owner did not pay for their own cat's lifesaving treatment. What if she hadn't voluntarily paid the bill out of the kindness of her heart? Also I wonder about how often and regularly they brush and clean Mayonnaise. Long-haired cats require a lot more grooming just to prevent mats from forming and to brush out shed hair. It's more unpleasant for a cat to have mats brushed out, than it is to brush them well, very often (so they don't form in the first place). Also getting them used to, and comfortable with bathing, is going to be better for the animal than having meltdowns at the groomers twice a year. The owner can make it a not unpleasant experience and ger their pet used to it, and keep them in better, cleaner condition. With my dogs I always wiped their buttholes after each poop (they got used to it and didn't make a fuss) and I wiped after they urinated. With long haired animals you'll need to trim hair very short back there so it's easier to clean and prevent matting causing a blockage over the anus.

I grew up having to be extremely well behaved and never impose on others and to consider their comfort etc. before my own. So I would feel awful about sending my pet to the groomers and then they scratched up the groomer's hands and caused bleeding. I feel it's important to train your pets and to get them comfortable with situations like going to the vet or to a pet salon. It's not only better for the people who work there, it's better for your pet so they can get treatment with as little fuss as little discomfort as possible.

What I've learned after 30+ years of owning cats. It is far easier to get the cats to go into the crate if you put it out anywhere from an hour to a day in advanced of whatever appointment you need to take the cat to. And reward them going in with treats. It really makes life soooooo much easier. Ofc, when cats are already conditioned to the crate taking them to dreaded places... it makes it a lot harder.

It’s true cats have a time limit! Some have a shorter fuse than others, though. At least Mayo is very clear and direct in letting you know “I am 100% going to bite and claw the ever loving piss out of you if you don’t stop that in 3…2…1…” LoL! My girl cat is a floofy spicy tabby like him. The problem with her is she will want love and pets, but only for a certain amount of time. If you pet her for even one second longer than she wants, she will rain hellfire upon you. The catch? You don’t get to know when that time is until it’s too late. 😂 And avoiding the pets all together isn’t an option either because she’ll scratch you for not petting her when she wants to be pet. She’s the worst. I love her. 🤣

We did it with our newest kitten because he will be an outside cat and we learned from previous cats that sometimes that means a bath will be needed in the future. But it definitely was a process that most don't feel like they need to do, have a harder time with because the cat they got is older or are unaware of it being a possibility. 😔

Perhaps you should stop designating what kind of cat your kitten will be and instead see what it chooses for itself. Or... you can take care of the cat and dry it off. My ragdoll got groomed for quite a long time and was usually a champ. But as he hit senior status the spiciness grew. One day the lovely groomer gave him back to my mom half done. No charge. Apparently he was just too angry and they didn’t want to upset him anymore😂❤ he’s 17 now and my dad just got his own clippers to shave out mats. The cat looks choppy as hell, but he is very happy lol. Thank you for caring for the spicey cattos!!!

@clarabear501 the same thing happened with my cat. She was never difficult when she was young but now she is 16 and has arthritis. Most cats get arthritis when they get older and just like people it's painful. She gets a Solensia shot once a month from her vet along with a subscription for gabepentin for the pain. It has helped her tremendously and I would ask your vet for solensia and gabepentin.

@clarabear501 We have both a Himalayan and Ragdoll. We use a mobile groomer that gives them a bath and lion cut during the spring/summer . They both do good. The ragdoll tolerates it, and the Himalayan actually loves it. We bought one of those pet vacuumes that has a bunch of attachments, one being a brush . You basically brush, and it sucks up the hair. It's a total gamechanger with long hair cats and dogs. It even has a clipper attachment so you can trim areas and the hair just gets sucked up no mess or hair all over the house. We started doing lion cuts because we just could never brush all the loose hair up . I'd brush and brush and brush and brush it was never ending. Having the suction along with the brush gets every drop of hair . We have a borderline Zoo and it was just becoming so hard to keep our house hair free , but I'm telling you that petvac has been the best purchase of my life. So if anyone has long hair pets ( even great on short hair) you have to get one ypu will love it.

You'd take him seriously if your hands were bleeding from him scratching you. Honestly vet and grooming salon workers have to put up with a lot (noise and fuss), including injuries, in the line of duty. I am very appreciative of what they do. As someone whp has had dogs, I feel it's an important responsibility to get your pets used to beimg in such places, and being comfortable with being handled, being bathed and brushed, being lifted by others etc. It's not just for the benefit of those people but for your pet so they will make less fuss and feel less stress. And it can all be done more quickly and efficiently.

We would end up bleeding, emotionally and physically exhausted. Adding a teaspoon of oil to his food vegetable, rapeseed or olive oil whatever your cat likes helps with keeping fur less prone to matting. I had an apricot Persian named Boo and when I brushed him his fur was easy to keep shiny and flowing even when he wandered through the fields in all weathers. I miss my boy tears welling up as I write.
