SHAWИEE HILLS WORKSHOP

SHAWИEE HILLS WORKSHOP

Күн бұрын

If you have been watching my videos you know that I built a log hauling arch for my dump trailer. Over the past week I put it to the test with logs larger than I ever planned on hauling. Unfortunately, I damaged it, I am not sure if it is fixable or not, but I will try. But that is all part of homesteading, overcoming hurdles along the way.

Thank u for being honest with yourself ,it is worrisome to see so many adults around me play the blame game and never owning there mistakes. We learn and grow the most from our mistakes.if we refuse to admit we made a mistake, what will be the consequences of this behavior ? An immature society that does not grow?

Hey Wes, I see the Big Guy is now supervising. Good for him...lol. I got to say I was cringing, watching and hearing the winch strain only to imagine the forces being applied on the log arch. Now that it is bent, that is the weakest part of your system. The design has proven itself that it works. You may want to consider a more beefy tubular system and overbuild it. I would have loaded the Boda on the trailer, use it to load, and then come back to pick it up after getting the logs. My two cents. Great work on the Husky. When was the last time you sharpened the blade? (I had to ask) Stay safe Mi Amigo...

I thought about bringing the Kubota but it would have only been useful on the one load with smaller logs, it can’t lift the big logs. It can lift just under 2500lbs and they weigh around 4-6k

Im still trying to figure out if I am going to try and repair the arch, or scrap it and start over. I really don't want to start over, but I'm not sure I can get it back square again if I don't.

I almost forgot, I just sharpened all my chains right before my first trip on this haul, I have 2-25" and 4-18" that I carry with me. I was trimming up one of the logs last night that had a bunch of branches while i was stacking and reorganizing them and it is just starting to throw some dust so it's about time. Man does it run better now that the brake is working properly!

I couldn't agree more with you about the way life works. The way you handle problems and are showing your kiddos cause and consequence is awesome. The step back and take a breath method is something I think we all could work on. I enjoy your channel because of the realness and that you are human, without mistakes (and seeing them) there is no growth or learning. Keep doing what you're doing.👍

*** don't tell people your trucks in neutral when loading that's the most unsafe crap I have ever heard your going to get someone killed**** when loading equipment or any heavy thing on a trailer you should first Put vehicle in neutral, then set parking brake, then put transmission back in park. Chalk the trailer wheels. If you want to chalk the truck wheels you can also. The Parking pins break is kinda a myth but to keep the stress off the pin cause it can bend or shear under extreme cases or factory defect more commonly the vehicle operator shoulder set parking brake with tranny in neutral. Also if you put the truck in four wheel drive all four wheels are in park not just 2 Incase the wait of the log punching Down on the back of the trailer lifts up on the back of the truck reducing the wait of the rear axle possibly lifting the rear tires the front tires won't stop the truck unless you park it in 4 wheel drive.

Make it so the arch is in a locked position. Lock it back closer to the winch than the doors. That way nothing catches on the Arch as the log slides out...

great to see you improve again and again and stay motivated and encourage to simply in tough times considering elections "nightmare and mess" and corona even though you seem to be living far outside : If I see you explaining I can see things growing steadily laying stone on stone . In the elections I can see the skyway to heaven maker talking in beautifull words about how lightweight his construction had become by just his genius, except he did not mention the big leaps it needs to jump ober missing steps - those made the stairway lightweight which everyone could have done ... but not the preferred way of a mother Theresa. I love your encouraging videos about things others might call tiny progress, but are 100% your success. I can't even imagine how you really will get that mill to work with the lumber ... Big applause. And I like your son appearing and fighting, struggling with you to just make it, make it a bit better. Pretty strange to say see you struggling cause it makes me learn from your failures and fighting instead of getting a bloody nose. I'd would have killed that arch too by telling myself that the arch is strong enough, the loggs are smaller and I am stronger . And then I usual have to take the extra mile or step to get out of the swamp

Thanks for sharing the story of the conversation you had with your son. It’s a good reminder to me as well how I should have these same discussions with my daughter. She likes to blame thing on objects being stupid. I think it would be good for her to see me take responsibility for thing when they don’t go right.

When I was in my late teens/early 20’s, I was really bad to see the fault in others and not myself. Luckily I saw the path o was on and made a promise to myself to try and keep my children from doing the same.
