To silence all the controversy. This songs' demographic is those who are struggling, who are thirsty and who have been looking to earthly desire and sin to quench a spiritual thirst that only Jesus can provide. I find myself in the struggle now, and the song is about honesty with God. That you love him, but you have unintentionally found yourself astray. Its a cry to God to drw yourself closer to him. It encompasses every feeling we experience as sinners. Only Jesus can satisfy this thirst.

lyrics: "Gravity" (Shawn McDonald) The ways of this world are grabbing a hold Won't let me go, won't let me fly by It taken it's toll down on my soul 'Cause I know what I need in my life Don't let me lose my sight of You Don't let me lose my sight [Chorus:] I don't want to fall away from You Gravity is pulling me on down I don't want to fall away from You Gravity is pulling me to the ground This world keeps making me cry But I'm going to try, going to try to fly, going to fly high Don't want to give into the sin, want to stay in You 'til the end Don't want to lose my sight of You Don't want to lose my sight [Chorus] I want to fly Into the sky Turn my back on this old world Leave it all behind This world is not my home It's got nothing for me Only leaves me with emptiness And tears in my eyes [Chorus 2x]

I felt to tell you that our struggle is very real. But Understand that we must continue to run the race and fight the good fight. Being chosen is a choice we had to except, God knocks on our hearts but we have to answer. Just want you to know you have a brother in Chris and I cant wait to dance on the streets of gold with you .

Max Strange.... Like in the Bible, each word has a purpose. This song is a cry out... Someone who is feeling the gravity just might need to hear this song to,be reminded they dont want to fall away.... And then cries out and thats when God works. You dont always need to hear that Jesus is the way to find that out. Most of the time they experience Jesus and things we see, hear, experience is what God uses to reach out to us.

In response to just the last few comments here. Musicians write songs, sometimes in the exact emotional/thought place that they are in themselves, and sometimes it's written placing themselves where they see others, and written in that perspective. Uplifting praise/worship songs are great, but there's also a place for songs where you connect with the listener based on struggle/hurt/pain that they are going through. We have victory through Christ, but, there are struggles, things pulling us down.

It actually acknowledges this "finished work" It's a cry from someone knowing the truth, but is human and has fallen to some sin; "gravity". Its a cry to get closer to God, Jesus and the love and fulfillment He provides. And Christ didn't purchase our salvation, more so he "sacrificed" for our salvation. And this sacrifice was done with joy for He knew he had redeemed those He loved. Large difference in purchase and sacrifice.

Much Christian music defaults to "its all about me and my struggle." We must exalt in the Christ. His accomplishments give rise to exaltation in Him. Please know this, that every Christian is a theologian (the study of God) for better or worse. Christian music so often lacks lyrics that reflects hard work from one who pours & wrestles over God's Word and then combines it with a sanctified imagination, poetry, unique style and talent and offers it up to God for the good of His people...

Christian music must be about Christ. So much is about man. The Psalms always end in hope that rest in the character/nature of God. Sing the song of despair, but do not forget about the Christ and what He has done to purchase (1 Cor. 6:20) and secure our redemption. Songs today are so horizontal w/o the vertical dimension that sustains and strengthens the believer for the valley and the next.

Amy Strange Christian music should be biblically rich. that's why the old hymns are always based on verses from the Bible.
@molica.rabbit5 жыл бұрын
The Bible is a love story to humanity. So very much of it is about man and our struggle in getting over ourselves enough to see God. The Psalms were very much like this, as King David wrote most of them in the thick of the turmoil in his life. Contemporary Christian music is just as heavily based on scripture, btw. Many of the lyrics in Contemporary Christian music is direct scripture. "I cast my eyes upon the hills, where does my help come from? It come from the Lord" and "Seek justice, love mercy, walk humbly with your God" are just two examples. 😉

In all due respect, If God uses people his own way and it doesn't matter how, why are you telling me to shut up? Isn't then God using me in this situation? Name calling isn't Christ-like either. By your language it seems like you may not know Jesus??? If I am your bro in Christ, why do you slander me?
@dshuck7712 жыл бұрын
God is not looking for "theologians", he is looking for regular people to stand up and proclaim his name. Perfect example... look at all the people Jesus had close to him. Fisherman, tax collectors, prostitutes, etc. This song speaks to a very real human condition that sin is constantly trying to seperate us from God and anyone who claims to be without sin is a liar according to God. Don't get me wrong, I understand your point I just think the song is saying we all fight to not lose sight of him
@heisrisen689811 жыл бұрын
Amy you are very strange you criticize that which you do not understand God bless
@amystrange467712 жыл бұрын
Definitely and I agree with you that God uses ordinary people to proclaim the great name of Jesus Christ. My tension here is that the song is lopsided. It does not declare the remedy that "keeps" Him and the overarching power that "sustains" him against "the gravity". It leaves the listener with a (anthropocentric) man-centered view of the real struggle and nothing about the finished work that Christ has purchased to secure His people for glory.
@patriciag7587 жыл бұрын
Amy Strange Maybe this song is more like a prayer to God in this guy’s struggle with his constant sin.
I like his voice but I wish musicians were also good theologians. The song was mainly about him...not what Christ has done to keep him from the inevitable destruction of "gravity."
