Dennis is a much underrated vocalist. Obviously, his time in the Temptations is what everyone remembers and who wouldn't with songs like "Papa was a Rolling Stone". He is in that top tier of great R&B singers. Dennis was a member of the Tempts from the late '60s through the mid '70s. This song here was as a soloist in the early to mid '80s.

Siedah Garrett: That video was shot in the basement of Motown Records. I think it cost $11.57 including the electricity! And Dennis was not in his best form. In fact, Dennis was so amped up, the video director between shots, she would come over [with a piece of paper] and she said, “Can you put your gum in…” And Dennis said, “I ain’t got no gum?! I ain’t got no gum! Ain’t no gum in my mouth!” He was just chewing the s**t out of his own tongue. I swear to God… And then, I didn’t know it at the time, but you know, when I turned around with my back to Dennis… I didn’t know that he was humping me behind me?! I had no idea. And when I saw it, I said, “That nasty bastard!”

Dennis Edwards replaced David Ruffin in the Temptations & sang on hits like Cloud nine , Ball of Confusion .Papa was rolling stone . He left the Temps in the late 1970 ‘s to remain at Motown when the Temps signed with Atlantic records . When the Temps came back to Motown a couple of years later ,he rejoined the Temps until about 1983 & then rejoined the Temps again for the final time a few years later in the late 1980 ‘s for a brief period replacing his replacement Ali Woodsen ,who was the Temps lead on ‘Treat her like a lady ‘ & Lady Soul & others . Dennis then formed his own vocal group called the Temptations revue ,until his death . Before replacing David Ruffin in 1968 ,he did some leads for the Contours ,which are popular recordings on the Northern Soul scene here in the U.K. .
