Shirley & Company was an American disco group, consisting of Shirley Goodman (1936-2005), Jason Alvarez [birth name Jesús Álvarez] born December 28, 1951 (now a pastor) "Shame, Shame, Shame" (released December 1974) was written and produced by Sylvia Robinson, who was a co-owner of the All Platinum record label. It was intended for All Platinum artist Donnie Elbert. It was Robinson who paired veteran blues vocalist Shirley Goodman with All Platinum artist Jesus Alvarez. The track, with its prominent use of the Bo Diddley beat, was one of the first international disco hits and reached number 12 on the Billboard charts. It also hit number one on the soul singles chart for one week. "Shame, Shame, Shame" also went number one on the disco/dance chart for four weeks. The full-length LP Shame, Shame, Shame was recorded subsequently and came out in 1975. The lead singer Shirley Goodman, was one half of the duo Shirley and Lee who had a mega hit 18 years earlier, in 1956, writing and recording the song "Let The Good Times Roll" for Aladdin Records. Jesus Alvarez changed his name to Jason Alvarez and became a pastor for the Love of Jesus Family Church. He recorded several gospel albums.

S&M you hit this one out of the park!!! I remember busting a move to this song back in the 70's, in fact I was busting a move listening to this during breakfast this morning. Back in the late 60's and 70's we didn't have this racial division that we do today and our common love for the music brought us together. All races would come to the dances or discotheque and enjoy each other's company. Keep the groove and you'll have the move!!! Thank you! Stevie B.

This is one of the best songs from the disco era. They are amazing! Just a beautiful, talented black woman and a handsome, talented Cuban man Jesus (later changed his name to Jason) who came together to create beautiful, fun music. No boobs hanging out/flopping around, no naked butts, no demeaning women... just pure raw talent. Autotune not required. R.I.P. beautiful Shirley. Both performers are just perfect together. Thank you for choosing this song to review. Keep up the good work.

It was so cool getting to see this video! I have danced to this song a million times. But I never knew who sang the song, We didn't have videos back then so when there was a new group the only place you could see them was on American Bandstand or Soul Train. Or maybe they would be on a variety show. That was so much fun. She was so full of personality it was shining like sunbeams out of her finger tips. Disco was definitely fun and happy music. If you loved to dance it got you moving. It did bring people together too. But...like everything there always has to be some people who get in there and spoil it, with commercialism, excess and drugs, this led to a lot of people getting hurt. Just like with the hippie movement in the 60's. The disco at the end of the decade was very different from how it started out., I think that is why it sadly kind of died out. But the music and the beat are still in my blood. :)

Meaning of diamond in the back. “a characteristic of early model cadillacs (1970s) used primarily by the urban community that was popularized in a classic song, "Be Thankful for What You Got" by one-hit wonder William Devaughn and has been covered and sampled many times over, most notebly in rap songs beginning in the early 90s. Though you may not drive a great big Cadillac Gangsta whitewalls TV antennas in the back You may not have a car at all But remember brothers and sisters You can still stand tall Just be thankful for what you've got Though you may not drive a great big Cadillac Diamond in the back, sunroof top Diggin' the scene With a gangsta lean Gangsta whitewalls TV antennas in the back”
