Best disco love song ever. Nothing in the world could be more fun than dancing to this. Their _voices_ are Heavenly! I've learned they were brothers from Cabo Verde, a group of islands off the coast of West Africa near Senegal, but they grew up Massachusetts and Rhode Island. Their ancestry would be something like African, Portuguese and possibly some Italian or French. Ralph, the oldest brother, passed away in 2021 just before his 80th birthday.

A bit of trivia; More Than A Woman has the unique distinction of there being 2 original versions ("original" is determined by release date). Both the Tavares & Bee Gee versions were in the movie, Saturday Night Fever, (Tavares' featured in a scene, Bee Gee's played in the background in another scene) & both were released at the exact same time, on the SNF soundtrack.

Have I got a story for you guys. I grew up in the projects in Cambridge, Ma. just across the Charles River from Boston. A woman moved in below my family in the mid-seventies. She had four great kids. Three girls & a boy. I got to liking her right away. We got along like brother & sister. We would hang out in her house and listen to music all the time. We both loved the same music. Mostly Motown & 70's Philly soul. Her favorite group was Earth, Wind & Fire. Anyway, we were just chillin' one day talking about music when she put on some Tavares. She knew how much I loved them. We started talking about Tavares when she said to me, "Would you like to meet them?" I believe I just looked at her and said "Huh? You serious?" She said "Of course I'm serious. They're coming here over the weekend? I asked her how she knew them, and It turned out that she had dated one of them for a few years. I forget which one now, but I think it was either Tiny or Pooch. Anyway, Saturday comes and my phone rings. It was her. She said "Come on downstairs, I want you to meet a few friends of mine" There they were! Chubby, Tiny, Butch, Ralph and Pooch! I almost died. They had previously released their first big hit called "It Only Takes A Minute" which is still my favorite song by them. Guys, when I tell you just how cool and down to earth these guys were, just amazing! We sat down and started talking, and that's when I found out that they were all brothers and came from New Bedford, Ma. which is just about 30 miles south of Boston. So, they all asked me if I wanted to sing a bit with them. I couldn't believe they were asking me to sing with them! So I think it was Ralph who said that we should go into the hallway outside my friends apartment because the acoustics would be better. Me, my friend, her son and one of her daughters, along with the five Tavares brothers went into the hallway. Right away they began to snap their fingers, and busted into the sweetest five-part acapella I'd ever heard in my life! All I could do was stand back and watch them in awe! They were magnificent. The harmonies that came out of these guys was something I know I'll ever hear again. At least not like that. As they sang, Tiny looked at me and pointed as if to say "C'mon brother, sing!" Scared as I was, I actually joined in. Well, it wasn't long before that hall was full of people just watching us. The look on my friends faces when they saw me singing with the likes of Tavares. That was something that I will never, ever forget. What a great day in my young life. When I tell people today about it, most are like "Yeah, right. Sure you did Paul! You were living in the projects, and were singing with the likes of Tavares!" But it never bothers me. That's just the way some people are. I hadn't seen my friend Joanne for a number of years, and ran into her daughter a few years ago at a Wendy's of all places. That's when she told me that her mom was very sick with cancer. At least it got me the chance to catch up with my lovely friend. Joanne sadly passed away not too long ago. But I will never, ever forget her, and I will always love her! Thanks for letting me share my Tavares story with the both of you. And I love your reactions. You both are the best out there! Peace & Love... By the way, their name is pronounced Tav-are-ez
