When Willie Nelson first wrote this song, no country singer wanted to record it because it contains several chords, more than the three chords that was standard for country songs at the time. But Patsy Cline's manager, Owen Bradley, urged her to record it, presumably because he knew that she would have no problem with all of the chord changes. Unfortunately, in the first recording session, Patsy was in pain from bruised ribs from a recent car accident, which prevented her from hitting some of the notes. She took three weeks off to recover, and when she returned, she nailed the song in one take. Crazy.

She died on March 5th, 1963. Eight months before I was born. But luckily I have fond memories of my aunt who used to play Patsy Clines records all the time when I was a child and I remember even as a child, I loved her voice. Anytime my aunt had a big family get together, she had Patsy Cline playing on her big heavy stereo, she always had a few albums of country music playing. But I’ll never forget always hearing my aunt play Patsy Cline music, I thank her for that. 😊

Too many singers today think that just belting, being loud, doing runs the whole song is selling the song. No, the quietness, the strength, the storytelling, the drawing you in to listen to every word. That is the power.
@sandramooreАй бұрын
No one could have said that better. Maybe it should be required for aspiring singers to listen to some of the legends who could stop people in their tracks, hanging on every word, every breath. It doesn't get any better. The power in stillness. Another great song from Patsy is Faded Love. It haunted Patsy's husband after the plane crash that killed her. He played it over and over, telling friends "I can hear her take a breath at the end. How can she be dead?"
@MrRondonmonАй бұрын
That's why I prefer Dolly Parton's original version of *"I Will Always Love You"* over Whitney's version and why I prefer Carol Kings jazzy version of *"Natural Woman"* over Aretha's version, now I love all 4 versions, and Aretha was the original version that was released, even though Carol and her husband wrote the song.

And possible worse. They think hitting perfectly square on the note is correct and desirable, which is why music sounds so drained of all feeling. Being slightly flat or sharp is not an error that needs to be fixed; those small errors is why a voice sounds emotional and if you tune that out in post you get something bland and emotionless.

For those of us old enough to remember and to have heard the great natural voices of the 40's and 50's and 60's she was a star among them. Tragic to lose her at 30.

I don't know about that. Dolly Parton has always said it takes a lot of money to look that cheap... :) Check out clips from the TV show "Beste Zangers" for other singers who rely on voice and connection to the audience. Each season they invite a mixed group of Dutch talent to perform each other's most-loved songs. One year, that included operatic baritone Henk Poort performing "Phantom of the Opera" with Floor Jansen, lead singer of the metal band Nightwish.

Yes, LeAnn has lovely voice. I really loved her "How Do I Live," too. Still, there is some unknown "something" that can actually evoke a physical reaction when I hear certain voices. That "hair on the back of my neck" thing. Patsy, Adele, Celine Dion and Streisand all effect me that way. John Denver's and Andea Bocelli's voices do it to me, also. I can't explain it. I think each person has a "vibe" that they read and react to. Who knows -- Perhaps some day science will find out that we also have "audible" pheromones or something. Like I said, I can't explain it. I'm WAY too ignorant for that. I can only FEEL it. Thanks for reaching out. I quite enjoyed it !! Have an awesome day !!

Patsy Cline is a Legend!!! She sang ""BLUE" You should listen to. Decades later LeAnn Rimes sang at age 13yrs old. Everyone said it was too Big of a song for such a young girl...but she nailed it!! Patsy & Loretta Lynn are Phenomenal in Country Music too this day. You should LISTEN to "BLUE " By both PATSY & LeAnn ,as well as "COAL MINERS DAUGHTER" Loretta Lynn!!!❤ ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤

Sorry to offer you a correction but I believe Blue was written for Patsy but she died before she was able to record it. Decades later it was offered to LeAnn Rimes to sing.

@@Sweetfarmers Good with the correction, but neither is true. Bobby Mack wrote and recorded the song in the 50s, 58 I believe. He didn't write it for anyone (nor with Pasty in mind). Leann was the 3rd person to cover the song after Bobby first released it in the 50's. I believe Kenny Rogers did a version in the 60s. When Leann debut with the song, Country Radio started with the Pasty comparisons, and then the story took shape from there, it was completely fabricated.

I love this song so much. The chord changes are extremely difficult to land on without going flat or sharp. She nails it. No autotune. Piano player played for Elvis. Written by the amazing Willie Nelson. This will be gold 100 years from now. It’s country but has such soul.

Patsy Cline (born Virginia Patterson Hensley; September 8, 1932 - March 5, 1963) was an American singer. She is considered one of the most influential vocalists of the 20th century and was one of the first country music artists to cross over into pop music.[8][9] Cline had several major hits during her eight-year recording career, including two number-one hits on the Billboard Hot Country and Western Sides chart.

Patsy Cline was a remarkable talent that was taken far to young. She was country artist. She had an incredible voice. She was the mentor and best friends with Loretta Lynn. Another amazing sound by her is I Fall To Pieces. I'm glad you found her. As you said her voice is an amazing gift.

I’m 70. My parents and I heard her on “Ted Mack’s Amateur Hour” in the 60’s. She won several weeks, then became the legend who we all know and love ❤️
