I guess some people just want perfection! Keep hearing people say what he should of done, but his success speaks for itself. This album is about awareness he's not trying to just give us an answer hes trying to warn us about these issues. J. Cole isn't here to be superior to anyone or be this godlike figure when he raps, he's a regular person who raps in way that people can relate and discuss his songs. People over analyze him and criticize him because of some expectation they have of an over complicated life changing album. Cole just wants to speak as a regular dude just like us.

Yatchy (who I am no fan of) made a much more listenable album with Lil Boat 2 than he did with Teenage emotions, so he gets a better grade. I still feel like 2014 forrest hills dr is still his illmatic modern classic album. 4YEO has grown on me massively, and I believe that his topics on mass incarceration and the various mental walls that incapsulate young black men in America while also demonstrating how pivotal women are in breaking down those walls. In short, that album has layers and ideas that make it a sleeper hit imo. K.O.D has been solid for me so far, meaning there are only really 5 tracks that I fw currently, but it honestly takes time for an album to grow with the listener. Those are my thoughts so far on his recent discography.

kILL Edward is deeper than you'd expect. On "Once an Addict" Cole talks about how the only thing he wants to do is kill the man that made his mama cry. Cole's stepfather is the one that got his mom and drugs and left her for dead. And if it weren't obvious enough, someone on twitter found out his stepdad's name is Edward. But yea there shoulda been some ultimate conclusion with the character unless he's supposed to return for THE FALL OFF album if it's actually an album

I feel you on basically everything you said about this album. Personally, I feel like I have more respect for it, not because it's enlightening or revolutionary, but because I just like that he isn't afraid to use his voice. I do wish he would've went into more detail, but this issue with "kids on drugs" is a huge issue right now and I like that he is at least offering a mild moral reminder or somewhat of a solution in regards to meditation or whatever. All in all it just makes me happy to see someone of his status address the elephant in the room.

I feel so honored to be the first comment. All of my hard work and dedication has paid off. Getting the top comment has been a dream of mine for many years, and I would like to thank those who have helped me along the way. First and foremost I would like to thank god for giving me this opportunity. Next, I would like to thank my parents. I want to thank my friend Clark, for being really baller and always there for me. I would also like to thank my pet tadpole for surviving against all odds for over a week. Next, I would like to thank the squirrel that lives in my backyard for climbing trees, because that gives me inspiration that I need to get through the day. This is a special moment in my life, and I would like to thank any of my unmentioned friends and family that have helped me along the way. This moment will be a moment that i will never forget. I just remembered a few other people that I would like to thank; Facebook, the fish I caught in the third grade, my light in my room because I wouldn’t be able to see the keyboard without it, the internet for letting me go on Facebook, my house because without it I would be homeless, and last but not least I would like to thank all the people out there that actually took time out of their days to read this. I cannot stress how much of a big deal to me this is. I have been trying to be the first comment on a post for years, but that has not been possible until this amazing day. Hopefully my good luck will continue, but this is undoubtedly a rare occasion. If you asked me how I did this, i would say, you can achieve anything you set your mind to. To all the kids out there reading this, I would like to tell them to follow their dreams. Stay in school, and don't do drugs! Peace.

Deep and great insights as usual bro.Though, I firmly believe the point is not to find a definite answer to this problem, as if there was one, we wouldn't have such an epidemic crisis happening lately in regard to this subject. In my eyes, the most important thing Cole brings out is the sight and realization of ourselves. Although that might not bring some drastic changes, it definitely tackles the subject of seeing yourself from a different POV that may lead to something greater.

I don’t agree but respect your opinion. I think the reason why J Cole fans (me included) love his music so much is because he is so relatable to many young black men. Most of us don’t want his music to change. Which I understand why some don’t like his albums as much.
@vFinalistINBA6 жыл бұрын
I think Kevin’s heart and photograph are 2 of the top 4 or 5 songs in j coles album musically. Especially Kevin’s heart with that slow jazz beat and it’s such a chill song that anyone can vibe to and I feel like he flows so well to it and on terms of photograph the hook can get repetitive very easily but it’s also nice and slow and nice to listen to but the verses are great the way he flows and the way the best picks up in pace it sounds amazing although it might not be the deepest lyrically like you said I don’t think j cole wanted it to be that deep for the point you mentioned but in my opinion as a whole I would rate this 8 or 9 out of 10. I’d say I thoroughly enjoyed 10/11 tracks with brackets being very slow to me and it drags waiting to get to the part where he goes off on the tax system. I feel like it is his best and will go down as to me his second classic but time will tell.

I think kiLL edward is supposed to be J Coles step dad. Firstly in this video J Coles brother says that their ex-stepdads name was Edward kzbin.info/www/bejne/nJW8ZmSunKhkorc Secondly I think that’s the person he is talking about cutting off in “the cut off.” Then in “Once an addict” j cole references his mom getting her heart broken and that being a reason for her addiction. Then finally in “window pain” cole talks about wanting to kill the man that made his mama cry. I still don’t really understand how kiLL edward fits into “Friends” though. The only thing I can think of is that cole’s step dad were in the thought he couldn’t control and it pushed cole to trying to cope with it by smoking all the time.

Shawncee i wanna ask what exactly do you mean by cole stepping outside his zone? Like I feel like he did on this album by just adding on more and moving closer to perfecting his style 🤔 so what different do you exactly want to hear from him?
@Jdh1203966 жыл бұрын
It’s not bad music but people are acting like he’s saying something groundbreaking or so profound he’s saying shit that he’s said before and several other artists have said before over beats that are ok, and why are acting like J. Cole did something amazing by responding to Lil Pump by saying stuff that anybody with common sense knows... anyone with sense knows that Lil Pump will be lucky if people are still giving him attitude by the end of the year, but if people wanna count that as him catching a body cool J. Cole has killed Lil Pump and Diggy Simmons.........

I really like the way you’re listening to the music and how you appreciate it and try to understand the point of view of the artist himself like you had interviewed him before.

You claim to be a fan of J. Cole then say that he isn't interesting enough to listen to. You completely watered down every message and his delivery. I understand the criticisms but you focused on the negative aspect primarily. Still liked the review though.

Kill edward i think is suppose to be his stepdad, if you go back to listen to the song the cut off i see it as j cole rapping in the perspective of his mom.. and i dont see how kill edward plays a apart of friends but i do see it in the cut off

Do these scores differ depending on the standards of the artist? Just curious considering you gave cardi b a 6, and this a 7 for cole's 'best body of work'.
@simply70506 жыл бұрын
I have a different perspective of kiLL edward so when the album came out I too wasn't that impressed with the "feature" either but the more I listened back to back I began to speculate. I then started to read the lyrics on my 3rd listen and I was quite impressed by what kiLL edward meant to the album, whenever he's singing or rapping on a track he's typically to me at least sounds like what most "mumble" artist would say like on FRIENDS he says "Cop another bag and smoke today" "I got thoughts/ can't control/ got me down/ got me low" and when cole raps afterwards he's giving the answer/reasoning/perspective to kiLL edward, furthermore I believe that the "LL" in kiLL edwards stands for Long Live as in Long Live Kids on Drugs or Long Live King overdosed, idk the whole idea of kiLL edward doing drugs seems like he couldn't kill his demon he is a product of being a kid on drugs and finally he's at the top since him and Cole are the same person he (kiLL edward) would eventually be a King Overdosed. Hopefully you see this I'd love your thoughts on my theory, great video!

Some people gotta understand that he’s talking to a certain audience, some of my homies say they didn’t connect with the album while others say they loved and connected to every song. I didn’t really connect with the album because I don’t deal with any of the issues but I understand there are people who really connect with it because they struggle with it daily.

Gave the album 7.5-8.5 it’s just missing something idk what it is, Cole is just missing something in there maybe features(even though he said he didn’t want anybody) or something else, either way it’s just a 7.5-8.5
@ja1boi6 жыл бұрын
Unsubstainable Games yeah I gave it a 8 it honestly could have been a 9 this album needed atleast 2 features on some of his singing songs the only problem I had. It’s time to get them features could have put some of the dreamville artists on. He could had put jid on atm or motiv8. Also better production but I guess he wanted the words to resonate more and be heard.
