Feeling absolutely fine two weeks after drinking it so I should be in the clear. Trying to eat a healthy diet and lots of extra supplements and stretches and foot exercises to try to get that heel healed up... it’s killing me not to be out training hard right now!

I enjoyed your video. It was great meeting you. We did a short kayaking trip Sunday afternoon on Ohio Brush Creek. Depending on the water level, it provides some interesting options. Thanks again for hanging out with us.

Thanks Tyler! I will definitely check out the Ohio brush Creek, the Colonel and I are always looking for some nice rivers in Ohio. We are hoping to hit the Kokosing River in Mount Vernon Ohio in a couple weeks. The water was absolutely beautiful the other day when we stopped and looked at it.
@TylerCampbellOutdoors4 жыл бұрын
@@jasonwish- there are several options for places to put in and take out. You can go all the way to the Ohio River, but it becomes a lot of paddling as you get further south. Let me know if I can help if it's something you decide to try.

The designated water sources are all potable at Shawnee. I’ve never treated water from the designated ones. I’m just amazed you went to Shawnee and it didn’t rain on you, lol.
@jasonwish-3 жыл бұрын
Unfortunately there are no designated water sources on the Wilderness Loop where I was and at camp six you must use the streams. On other trips I did use the designated water sources and I got rained on too, lol.
@lost1croc3 жыл бұрын
@@jasonwish- I should have clarified just for general knowledge on the designated sources as I forgot site 6 was the stream. If I disliked somebody and didn’t want them to ever backpack again, Shawnee is where I would take them. Usually hot, humid and rainy. Trails are laid out with zero thought straight up and down, little to no switch backs and they sometimes will take a Bobcat with a mower attachment to them kicking up ankle twisting rocks for miles. However, all that being said, it holds a special place in my backpacking heart as being a place that proves you love the suck that backpacking can be sometimes by going back to it time and time again. 😁

Jason, If you want to explore another trail, there is 16 miles of new trail built at the Edge of Appalachia. It's about 20 miles west of Shawnee State forest along the sunshine corridor. The idea is to eventually have the Buckeye Trail connect to Shawnee with very little road walking.

@jasonwish-4 жыл бұрын
Obviously Colorado and the West are amazing places to hike, I’ve been there a few times but never for hiking, but have hiked at Yosemite a little bit. Believe it or not Ohio is not all that bad for Midwest /Eastern hiking, lots of great options for beginner backpackers and it’s only five to eight hours drive to many amazing hikes in Pennsylvania, Kentucky, W Virginia and the Carolinas, not to mention the AT. Thanks for the comment!

Nice trip, Jason. Great video as always. I was just curious about something. Since you didn't have your filter but you did have your stove, why didn't you boil the water to make sure it was safe to drink? My guess would be that you didn't want to take your pack off and dig your stove out at that point in the hike but wondered if there was another reason.
@jasonwish-4 жыл бұрын
Thanks Eric! You’re exactly right, I should have just stopped and boiled some water but as usual I was in a hurry to make miles and very thirsty and not in the mood to drink warm water LOL. Looking back on it it was a stupid decision but at the time it seemed ok because of how pristine the water source looked, but probably not worth the risk.

The main resource I used was backpacking Ohio.com and reading some backpacking forums. Check out my other video of the 40 mile loop back in 2017 and also check out Bryce Newbolds channel he has been on the trail several times as well. Campsite six is awesome so try to work that went into your trip if possible. Have a great time!

why is your mountain house in a different vessel....i was almost gonna let it slide but it makes no sense to me...that means you had to open the mountain house and then decant it into another vessel...
@jasonwish-2 жыл бұрын
I would have to go back to see what you are talking about but what I do many times is take an empty Mountainhouse bag with me and rehydrate my oatmeal in it since it stays somewhat insulated and just overall easier for me to eat out of versus a Freezer bag or dirtying up my cook pot.

Is this the best “weekend trip” in Ohio?
@jasonwish-4 жыл бұрын
I would say it’s definitely at the top of the list. All depends on how difficult of mileage you are looking for. The south loop is by far the best. Zaleski, Wildcat and Mohican will be crawling with people. Archers Fork would be a nice weekend trip too. Let me know if need any more specifics, glad to help. Done em all and some.
