Log Cabin Interior Build | Bathroom with Claw Foot Tub, Brick Veneer and Red Pine Floors

Before summer ends, I am focused on finishing the interior of my off grid log cabin, including grouting the red brick floor in the breezeway, oiling and waxing the rough pine floors, building the bathroom complete with composting toilet and claw foot bath tub and preparing for a busy fall of hunting and fishing.

Shawn, this is no longer a cabin in the woods, this is turning into a self sufficient structure, it`s gonna be massive with the addition of a bedroom, looking so cozy and homey. What you have pulled off here alone, with only hand tools, is absolutely incredible, the build is just stunning, I can`t even imagine how many linear feet of boards and lumber you cut by hand, I can remember in the winter when you had the last top wall log installed, and then said nope, I need to go one more for the upper loft, it is an absolute pleasure to follow you on this journey, the outdoor kitchen, is just through the roof, and now you have covered storage to keep the canoe out of the elements. This is going to be a big carbon free footprint, that will last for generations for you and your family, what an achievement, and a lasting rememberance of what you built and left as your legacy, it`s just astounding, well done sir.

I think this is what the government is afraid of people like him who aren’t afraid of getting their hands dirty and rough, having the skill, determination, and strength to build a house from scratch and then living off the land either having a garden hunting your own food hell having some chickens some pigs and some cows and butchering them for your own sustainability people like me don’t know how to do that or dont have a lot of money and needs to depend on the government and the economy to survive when 150 years back everyone knew how to do everything this man did and survived off themselves not the government

Hey Shawn this is just my two cents storing the canoe above the outdoor kitchen might be problematic first the cooking grease permeating on the canoe, high heat could warp and effect the outer layer of canoe. Shawn, I’ve been watching your channel from the beginning and I can honestly say that you are one of my heroes. I find myself thinking about moving out to the forest and building my own cabin. I’ve begun my 5 year plan to learn the skills I need to do this as well as purchasing land in an area suitable for this. I have a lot to do in the next 5 years! On another note, it looks like Cali is living her best life! She hit the jackpot having you as her caretaker. I worked in emergency veterinary medicine for 12 years. The dogs and cats that had lots of open space to be themselves were always the happiest animals. Keep it up, I’ll continue to watch.

After watching your channel for the past two or so years, I got inspired to remodel my bathroom, top to bottom. Thank god for you and KZbin University for teaching me all the skills and tools I needed! I also installed a clawfoot tub, surrounded on three sides by wood-looking tile, so that if I get too old to get into that tub, I can build a shower stall. I put wood up on the walls, laid a wood-looking resin on the floor, built my own vanity with a live edge cypress countertop and copper bowl sink. I love my bathroom, and my hands will never be the same with the arthritis that developed after all that hard work! Some scheduled surgery this fall might help. It was worth it. Thank you for the inspiration and teaching me a whole new set of skills! Your daughters are lucky to have you to learn from! My grandpa taught me a little, but not anything like this! You CAN teach an old dog new tricks, and now I have my own tools to do just about anything! (I cheat with battery powered tools).

Hello Shawn, your beautiful work on this indoor bathroom touched me. We built a log house in Enumclaw, WA in the 1970’s and an indoor bathroom (especially built with such care) would have made a world of difference to me and my comfort. We also had a wood cook stove like yours, I believe. I adored it. Is it called a Findley Oval? I cooked up a storm in that thing. Everything from chiles rellenos to roasted goose to yeasted breads. Golly, what fun it was! Thanks for the trip down memory lane. I admire what you are doing so very much. That stove is identical to my grandma's stove from the 50's and 60's from MacTier ontario not too far from where Shawn is now . I have fond memories of her making gingerbread and perogogies and my granpa forking out boiling potatoes right from the pot . This could have been hers .
