There is also a live version with Greg Lake and Ian Anderson (Jethro Tull) from St. Bride's Church in London in 2011.

Yes the same concert which Ian plays the flute solo with Justin Hayward on Nights in White Satin I believe.

Another great concert by Emerson Lake and Palmer. Big fan of Greg Lake , Loved seeing him sing - Still You Turn Me On while chewing gum. Great Choice to React to. Merry Christmas to you Shawn.

Can't beat some Greg Lake, one of the great prog voices, either with King Crimson, ELP, or solo.

Funny observation . Robert Fripp only selects vocalist that sounds like Greg Lake , his first Vocalist. If I am not mistaken the co-writer of this songs also played with Lake in King Crimson . I cab recommend some Crimson songs from their 69-74 period when they are at the ultimate peak.

There’s a live version in a church with Ian Anderson(Jethro Tull) that is outstanding.

I’ve never heard this before - good and relevant song. Merry Christmas to you and yours!

The lyrics were written by Greg Lake's long-term collaborator Peter Sinfield. Lake also sang songs by Sinfield with ELP and King Crimson.

Tull's Christmas Song also takes an aim at commercialization of Christmas. Great song, great voice and gentleman, RIP Greg, and your Mother. My folks are up there with them. Pete Sin+field is a field full of sin.Not really. Probably a saint. He wrote much of the early King Crimson, and created his own masterpiece, called "Still" where he dared to sing with Greg Lake. When Greg's voice comes in, it is like a god.

Love Greg Lake's voice. Can't believe I've never heard this song. Merry Christmas to you and your loved ones.

Peter Sinfield was King Crimson's lyricist - though he didn't play an instrument, he has the lyrics credits for every song on the Court of the Crimson King album

Back in 1975 this was a more intelligent offering than a lot of other Christmas songs. It contrasts reality with the hype the commercial world tries to sell. The classical music between the verses is Troika by Prokoviev. It's frequently heard at Christmas, and represents the tradition that is promoted, to distract from the world's troubles. It's interesting that the middle east was used as a backdrop to the video rather than some Dickensian snow scene. It's the cradle of the Christmas story, and also a noted centre of conflict. Really was a shame that its release coincided with Bo Rhap. that sat in the no.1 spot for weeks, and blocked everything. Any other year this would have been a sure no.1.

Greg Lake could sing about toilet paper and I would listen. His voice was so unique, so rich, so beautiful. Solo. EL&P. Whatever. Necessary message then and now as most of Christmas has NOTHING to do with the birth of Christ...

Yes. it is a Greg Lake song but Emerson did a recording with him and this maybe it. The keyboards do sound like Keith.

Greg had some amazing songs solo and w/ELP. Great guitar and voice! Filmed in Israel, and so neat they showed him at the caves of Qumran where the first of the Dead Sea Scrolls were discovered. I'll recommend reviewing his song C'EST LA VIE from his lonely time living in Paris, such a beautiful, soulful lament. Bohemian Rhapsody was an overture of devil worship from a satanist - that's just a natural Fact (examine the lyrics).

First of all, Merry Christmas. You've already said everything about the song. The only thing left for me to say is my New Year's wish: ABBA with "Happy New Year". It may "only" be pop music, but it's ABBA. And above all: the lyrics really pack a punch.

Greg was a staunch atheist, and he let it be known in several songs. Mass by ELP is arguably the most controversial one.

So much of contemporary (non-traditional) Christmas music is really not very good…sorry, my opinion right or wrong…but I feel this is a stand out from so much of the mediocre holiday music we hear. Great melody, musicianship and lyrics. Love this song
