Amazing review! I'm torn between this and the friedman JJ junior.
@TsiratiugZ4 жыл бұрын
Just in case bedroom levels are something you are looking for in a 20 watt amp, I suggest staying away from the Friedman. I bought a JJ-Jr as I was looking for something high gain but also usable at home. Unfortunately, it was simply too loud to be practical as a home amp. I don't think I ever got the master volume above 1.5 or 2. Also, I know high gain amps are hissy by nature, but the Friedman seemed excessively so even with the volume down low. Perhaps it was an issue with the unit I received, but I was genuinely surprised by the high noise floor. Don't get me wrong though, the few times I cranked it to where it wanted to be it was a thing of beauty, but if you value your hearing, you won't stay there long. So, I ultimately returned the amp and after much research and many KZbin demos I went with the G20. Same price as the Friedman and with all the gain you could ever want and 100% usable at bedroom volumes. Add the built-in load box with cab simulation and it made the Revv G20 an easy choice. As much as I wanted to love the Friedman in the end it was just too much amp. No regrets going with the Revv and it definitely hit a sweet spot with me.

Thanks for the great review. Your's really are among the BEST on youtube! I'm seriously wondering if the G20's clean side will match the D20 from your previous review (...and apologies if I missed this somewhere above or below)? You mentioned the clean side of the G20 doesn't have gain control, and that has me thinking there might be some compromise for getting the G20's clean to sound as nice as on the D20? On the other hand, If this amp were essentially the D20, but just with the extra features, and gain channel(s) - then it could make economic sense, as it appears to only be around a $100 more than the D20 per their website... But if it can't get as clean as the D20, it could pose an issue for some applications. Would love to hear your thoughts on this! revvamplification.com/product-category/lunchbox-amplifiers/ Thanks again!!
@ShawnTubbs5 жыл бұрын
Thanks so much! There's no gain control for the clean channel on the G20 but that being said it has a lot of headroom. In my opinion, the G20 is for the player that is less apt to use the amp as a pedal platform overall, not that it can't be used that way but the gain channel and aggression modes are really what that amp is all about. The D20 was really designed for the player that uses pedals to achieve the majority of his or her OD/Dist tones.

Well I’m not that impressed about this amp this time ...said that I’ve been pondering probably for too long on the idea and I’ve got the D20 only a couple of days ago and by coincidence the G20 is now right out 😠 I’ve gone far beyond this time compared to what the G20 has to offer in that I prepared a whole pedalboard with a bunch of overdrive and distortion pedals (including the G3 of course) covering a large variety of tones to go in front of the D20 and another whole pedalboard with my favourite mod del and rev be they pedals, VST or IPad Fx to go via the FX loop in the back of the amp. If I had the genuine tubes and the Two Notes platform then I do believe that there’s really nothing else that I would really need. The D20 was already a huge innovation ...the G20 might turn not being that huge leap ahead. I wish REVV all the best but that’s the way I see it.
