Designer of the trap here. Didn't think I'd have to do this with my channel link in the description, but some in the comments are claiming the trap as theirs. As for sales, I believe the impracticality of the design won't warrant much use in any sales worth talking about, and the production time with my current machine is about two days per trap. If any are really interested in purchase and are okay with these terms, however, please drop me a line. Price of plastic is also a bit high with how much goes into it, but it's very overbuilt from a 3D printed standpoint. If enough interest is gathered in sales though, I will try to build it down a bit to take less plastic. Raw cost of materials is around $17USD, which is a lot for a novelty plastic trap.

Kingmui: A different trigger idea would be is to do away with the string and make a piller inside the trap with a stick pretzel. The mouse chews on the pretzel, the pretzel breaks, and WHAM!

I was actually thinking about designing a similar one that was made to be quick to print and disposable, similar to the clear plastic ones that use a rubber band and pretzel but instead use string like you did, and find a way to contain the mouse not just pinch the neck.

I think this may be a super quick improvement. I’m very curious as to what he does on version 2.0, I suspect you may have figured it out at least partially.
@kingmuimui16 жыл бұрын
It does involve pretzels, yes. Not directly using them as a support though, I was afraid the split pieces would not escape and, knowing my luck, get caught in the channel that protects the spike points and keep the striker from falling down as it should. The future for the striker will likely not live past V2, because it's expensive and too complicated to be of much use other than novelty.

Replace the string with a pretzel? Not sure if it's strong enough to hold the upper part.
@kingmuimui16 жыл бұрын
That's what I was afraid of, so I went for the string. Really bad foresight on the size of the holes though, and the inside of the striker is chambered for impact resistance, so just making bigger holes was a major pain (but they are on V2). V2 does involve pretzel bits though, and no more doll needles. Even then, the design for this trap is still quite complex for much more than novelty use.
@hungrybird176 жыл бұрын
People complaining about the set up, even though this is a prototype. It was designed by a cool guy and tested by Shawn (who could be better?) and now time to make some improvements and try again
@kingmuimui16 жыл бұрын
And it may very well stop at V2 and then go for a complete overhaul on design to make something far simpler and cheaper. The biggest thing I focused on with this trap is resilience, so much so that it ended up way too complicated and overbuilt for what it is. I also massively misjudged the size of the holes for the string, and with the compartmentalization that is in the striker for impact resistance, making bigger holes was a massive pain. Bigger holes are on V2, however, so no more doll needles and hole drilled nuts needed.
@hungrybird176 жыл бұрын

A guide in the bottom to slide to set string through and past a slightly larger hole where a knot could pass through should enable the trap to not only go off more easily when the string is pulled but also allow the string to be used multiple times and have quicker resets.
@ITpanda5 жыл бұрын
A pre-measured strung with a knot or plastic bead (cavity needed for bead) on one end and a loop on the other would allow you to feed the loop through the bottom through the top and a stick or bead could retain other side with loop. Holes could be made bigger to allow this easy setup procedure.

Fishing string would be a lot easier to thread and you could make a much larger hole at the top/bottom and use a coin or anything tied to the string to hold it in place (just leave an approrpriately sized indent in the bottom, so it sits flat). Reload time could be cut way down.
@JanGroh2 жыл бұрын

A better way would make a pressure pad around a centre ring. What connects 2 locking tabs on either side what are pivoted. The top part pressing down on it lock its position, when weight is applied to the pad than it releases the catchs and it's slams down. Same principle as a gun Trigger

Very well done! Keep improving and one day you may have a more ergonomic one in stores! I have quite similar store bought traps that are simply held up by some plastic spring that you can pull up easily. The mechanism is triggered by the slightest touch of a thin piece of plastic. The device easily crushes the skulls of mice and can neatly be put into tunnels for catching moles and voles too.

The only thing that would be keeping Zack from making some good money out of this if he markets it, is how complicated the setup process is. I also have my reservations about the mouse having to chew through the actual string for the trap to spring, but nothing a few brainstorm sessions can't fix.

I was wondering if the pretzel trigger from the prison trap could be incorporated in this trap as a support with the same caps to keep it from sliding and then with eaten slam down on the mouse? he may need to print a ring to compensate for the space of the pretzel.
@kopecci96786 жыл бұрын
place a 3 inch loose plastic 'post' in the center of the kill chamber , holding the striker plate up. Providing the teeth of the striker are longer than the width of the post, the mouse pressing against it can trip the striker to come down without the post interfering with the kill. The post could even be hinged to the striker.
@wisteria27095 жыл бұрын
Wow 3D printed?! That’s a pretty good trap for a printed one
@dragonskunkstudio75826 жыл бұрын
You can easily replace the string and suspend the top part with a prezel, mouse chews the pretzel it breaks and down goes the trap.
@kingmuimui16 жыл бұрын
The only issue I had with this was that the two doubled-up rubber bands had so much force that the pretzel liked to snap at random, especially as moisture from the air got to it. This trap is essentially just a novelty, and I'm already working on a completely different (and far simpler) design. Love the comments on feedback and suggestions though.
@dirkdiggler55256 жыл бұрын
Use a pretzel to hold it up. Remove top rail. And add lots and lots of holes or make poles like a jail thereby reducing material used and reducing cost.. Doesn't need to be a kill trap.
@ianide24806 жыл бұрын
I think that peanut butter all over the string might work. Just enough so that the oil soaks into the string, I'm sure the little buggers would gnaw at the string and set it off. This is exactly the bait I use in a plain ole spring trap. I just rub PB into some string or paper towel and jam it into the "bait" area of the catch. This makes them have to work at it and it never fails to catch them.

I made a home made mouse trap using the top of a alligator head and a USB drive stick cheese for bait and a cheese grater with tooth picks sticking out of the cheese grater leading to the alligator head. The idea was the tooth picks would cut open the mouse and it would go for the cheese and knock down the USB drive stick and the alligator heads teeth would jab into the mouse and stab him along with trapping him there until he dies.
