If I had to make a wild guess as to why the flip & slide is so darn good even above other traps that are so similar especially mechanically, I would say maybe the mouse thinks it's going into a cave. The more safe a mouse thinks a place is, the more likely they'll walk on it and get dunked. Great comparison video! Thank you!

All those traps worked great if mice engaged with them. Shawn noted the rolling traps put mice on alert because of their motion, but they may have also made mice wary because of the round walking surface. The mice also seemed to prefer walking into cover; the Flip N Slide had a roof over the entire bait area, the rolling log had no cover. The paddle trap had a bit of cover to the sides but none above the mouse. The walk the plank traps individually had no cover, but more of the mice seemed to walk out on the lower plank, which got a bit of shade from the higher plank across from it. At this rate, Shawn's going to run out of mice to catch, and he'll have to change his channel to Flytrap Monday.

There's also something curious about the Flip'n'Slide. The mice don't seem to notice that the surface is tilting. Normally if any movement happens the mouse gets startled and runs or jumps away, but in this case it somehow fails to notice the floor is tilting, until it's too late. It just stands there as if nothing was happening... and then oops!

I 100% feel that Shawn Woods footage of mouse trap performance has single handedly improved the designs on the market. The simplicity and self reseting nature of the rolling log trap shown years ago made the market shift more towards drop traps. And then the video of how mice escape them led to the walk the plank and now the flip n side each of which further refined the idea. Honestly, it deserves to be the best seller bucket mouse trap. Its design is impeccable.

We've been battling the mouse dilemma in our home since we moved into it seven years ago and this is what I've learned. Mice are used in memory research because they have the capacity for quick learning and good recall. No matter what traps we've used, they all work for about a week. Then the mice learn and recall the danger of the current trap and the mice stop getting caught. If you want to catch and stop the intrusion of mice in your home, you have to be vigilante, find their entry port(s) and cut it(them) off, and rotate your trap type repeatedly until the mice are gone. Be smarter than your mice and adapt faster than them. Mice are smart and highly adaptive with memory tasks. We have to be too.

The Flip N Slide has some advantages: The roof makes mice feel safer while it stops them from jumping away. They also can't hold on to anything once they are in the "tunnel". And when it flips, the back comes up and closes the only exit.

I wonder how much more you'd catch if you dug a hole to keep the tank in so the traps were at ground level. I think the flip N slide could be made bigger and combined with the electronic sensor walk the plank style mouse trap to successfully catch rats. The tunnel stops them from jumping away once it tips, and it would tip much quicker, only after they are all the way in the tunnel and touch the sensor. You would need one HUGE bucket for a live trap, though.

I read somewhere that mice follow the urine trail left by other mice. A good product to aid in trapping mice could be an artificial urine. You would drip some of the urine near and leading towards the trap. In your demonstration it looked like some of the mice were following a scent trail. They went straight to a trap that other mice had just visited, without investigating any of the other traps.

This may be the best mousetrap video you've done yet, Shawn. Great job! By the way, I suspect one reason the Flip & Slide trap did so well is because the trigger area is enclosed on the sides and the top and I think that makes mice feel more comfortable; thus, they're more willing to enter into the "point of no return." I don't know if anyone will ever improve on the Flip & Slide -- it's pretty much a perfect design.

The Flip and Slide trap could probably be improved with a magnet for a rapid drop, just like the Walk the Plank. We saw a mouse feel the slow tipping and withdraw to safety more than once! Adding a magnet wouldn't make it significantly more expensive, and would probably catch the wary mice. It would be just as easy to clean. Every trap was "defeated", although the mice did return to the drop style traps which caught the mice on subsequent attempts. So they weren't really defeated, just didn't get the mice immediately when triggered. The Flip and Slide trap is my new favorite, although I really like them all and was impressed how Mascall's Mill really improved upon the Rolling Log. I think I might even prefer it to Walk the Plank because of how easy it is to clean. But that's what I like about Flip and Slide, it looks as easy to clean as the Rolling Log. Couldn't be simpler, just take it apart and rinse it off. I'd spray it with a garden hose. For a thorough cleaning, wash with soap. Mascall's Mill is also easy to clean. Walk the Plank, at least the design shown, is more effective than the rolling traps but is the hardest to clean. With Flip and Slide, you get both easy cleaning and high efficacy. The big platform and cover are advantages over Walk the Plank, but the slow tipping without the magnet is a downside. Add a magnet to get the fast flip, and the new Flip and Slide Down the Plank would be the best mousetrap yet. I suggest Shawn make one himself, just by adding a small magnet and another magnet or piece of metal to keep the magnets together until the mouse gets far enough into the trap to break the magnets apart, resulting in a rapid "plank drop" that will probably get all, or almost all, of the mice as soon as they trip it. One only needs a magnet or two (even a refrigerator magnet and a piece of iron!) glued or taped to the trap to test the idea.

The fish tank looks like a lot of work to maintain. Perhaps these traps could be located separately on a semi permanent basis if the mice fell into separate container that would allow it to be removed and emptied in rotation without having to move the trap itself.

I just noticed that the Amazon affiliate link has the same pricing at the moment, and you save an extra buck per trap if you buy a two-pack IIRC, shipping was also free there if you hit $25 for your order.

@@garrettstevensen2467 I agree, but it might need a bigger/deeper bucket. Too bad large trash cans aren't as standardized as 5 gallon buckets.

Very nice side-by-side! Yep, it's all about providing the creature a sense of solid security. I'm still of the opinion the thunder dome shocker is the way to go for being able to provide a solid and secure feeling platform and still process through rats and mice equally well.

It had been stated that there were several rat visiting the traps but not a single one of them fall for them. Followed by the conclusion of the uploader referring them to be effective for mices only.

This is one heck of a summary - Nothing like it anywhere else. For those who have watched this channel, what does he recommend as bait? I've used chocolate, peanut butter and bird seed. They've all worked, with peanut butter being the easiest to apply and stick to a surface.

The way the traps kept switching places (whilst the labels didn't keep pace!) _WAS_ a trifle confusing, but it was a very interesting comparison, nonetheless! Before the test began, I had posited the "Flip & Slide" to be *"The Champion!" - which it actually WAS!* 😁 (However, _my_ choice for *2nd-best* was the "Rolling Log," which ended in *LAST PLACE!* 😥 ) Thank you for yet another fascinating, instructive, _AND_ selectively humanitarian video! I *_THOROUGHLY_* approve of your differentiation 'twixt "native" and "non-native" species. *WELL DONE, SHAWN!* 😅👍
