The merger was not the greatest thing to happen. It simply swallowed up two foundation teams. The plan originally was devised between Ken Arthurson, John Quale and Arthurson's best mate Peter Moore. Cut Wests and Newtown and give their territories to Canterbury. That was always the intention. Anything that may or may not have ensued over the years all came from that little conspiracy. I followed Wests for 32 years until 2000. The only bit of joy came from an Amco Cup win in '77 and they wouldn't have had that except Russell Fairfax missed a conversion. A man only gets one mother and one football team in life. Wests are gone now and they won't ever be back. For me the Wests Tigers Pty Ltd are not Western Suburbs Magpies. Anything else is just emotion and nostalgia.

Yep couldn't agree more, its what happens when business overuns sport. Was originally the NSWRL now NRL and its never been as good as it originally was. I was lucky my club is still there, feel sorry for you mate
