Shaykh Sayyid Muhammad al-Yaqoubi on Syria's Bloody Road to Democracy

www.rusi.org/middleeast Syrian scholar and theologian Shaykh Sayyid Muhammad al-Yaqoubi discusses the situation in Syria and the prospects for democracy there. Shaykh al-Yaqoubi recently helped form 'The National Body' which held dialogue with the SNC in Bulgaria and signed a joint Statement in the wake of the Houla massacre. Shaykh al-Yaqoubi is also an executive member of 'The Union of the Syrian Youth for Freedom' and head of the Shar'a office in the 'Military Council of Damascus'.

The Shaykh is saying that if there is Western intervention, it gives the regime more of an excuse to fight the West and continue a war. They said we need to try to topple the regime *without* Western Military intervention.

Its to late for anything now, no talk can help, People has become selfish. I would like to suggest now that action must be hurried to get the women and children out of the fighting range.
