I’m interested in seeing how these last few DCEU movies are going to turn out. I have my skepticisms about rebooting the entire DC universe but James Gunn appears to be pouring as much effort into this as he can. I just hope that he doesn’t recast Shazam. Zachary Levi nailed this role!

This movie is so awesome, funny, full of heart and everything it needed to be. It once again has so much fun being in a DC world and it tells a great story. It has great visuals and delves into interesting mythology. The Shazam family are awesome as always. David F Sandberg made another great quality movie. This is my second favourite DC movie. 8/10 Go see it!

This movie was a ton of fun for me and I enjoyed it more than the first one. I'm very happy that Freddie's character gets even more screen time in this movie, because this character is just wonderful and his love story with Rachel Zegler is super cute. I also liked that we just had more interaction between our character family, the jokes were just as hilarious as before, the wizard got a bigger role, the action scenes were badass. So what can I say... I LOVE this movie!

Looks fun enough. I’m not burned out on the superhero genre, or supers in general, but a lot of recent output by both MCU and DCEU save for a few things just haven’t been it for me. So altho I really liked the first Shazam! I am gonna have to wait for it on streaming. Hearing it lost the charm of the first is concerning to me too. Sounds like the same problem Quantumania had. Well for me at least. Regardless, I am hoping it’s a fun movie 👍

Something my wife told me that I didn’t even think about but totally agree is that billy as a child doesn’t really feel like the same character as billy in Shazam. Like their personalities are so different. And I get that they are totally different people but I feel like their personality still has to feel equal. Sean, always love your reviews. My thoughts are fairly similar. Here’s my letterbox review Sometimes going bigger doesn’t mean better, but the movie still retains the charm of the previous film and that’s great due to the actors and the ever charismatic man-child Zachary Levi. The previous film was a unique addition to superhero films: Big meets the superhero genre
And that’s what’s kind of missing here as it trades the heartfelt small scale story for a big scale epic. It still works, but it takes away from the unique franchise it could have become. Still, this movie is a lot of fun. Fans who love superhero movies as they are will still be satisfied, but those who feel burned out by the over-saturation of the genre, might be displeased. Also the ending was so predictable and it even had an emotional punch, but is somewhat ruined by jokes… Super-hero movies like the Western may one day not be as prevalent, but the key to making them relevant is to do new and unique things, this movie does not do that despite all the fun it has and self-awareness. Again, I enjoyed this one and look forward to seeing the future of DC films. Here’s hoping Shazam sticks around awhile more. In conclusion, it’s a decent sequel, a worthy one in fact, but it’s not as great as it’s unique predecessor.

Watched it today and thoroughly enjoyed it. The only complaint I really have is that it takes a handful of genuinely good jokes and milks them until they just make you want to say "ok stop, I get it" A big point of praise is that the 3 villains have clearly defined powersets that aren't just the same as the good guys. For example they have a macguffin that is a serious threat to the heroes but the heroes can use their powers in skillful ways to avoid it and I liked that- it didn't always work but it showed that its an actual test of skills to get an advantage on the other team

Movie was better than I expected but I didn’t have expectations for it. It has funny moments but I think the disconnect is how Billy is versus how Shazam is. Billy…in his normal form is more serious than Billy…in his Shazam form. Shazam is supposed to be just Billy in an adult/superhero. In comparison…the other Shazam family are the same as their child counterparts. Shazam seems like he’s still early teens Billy as opposed to 18 year old Billy.

I do think too it is better than anything marvel has released in comparison since Spider Man. This movie is going to need a solid word of mouth to make money and I bet they threw in the cameo spoiler to try to get more ticket buys. I think many people will look back on this movie a few years down the line and realize WB had a solid franchise on their hands. Hopefully the story of Shazam continues after what will be flashes “reconstruction”

"Shazam! Fury of the Gods" was... Kind of a letdown. As a huge Shazam fan, I went into this movie with the utmost positivity, but my upbeat optimism was dashed by this films lack of focus. None of the events in this movie seemed to flow naturally and everything was just happening off of a conveyor belt. This, coupled with some VERY unthreatening, non-canon, movie exclusive antagonist's, made for an experience that seemed more like filler than anything else. Speaking of the antagonists of this film, Helen Mirren and Lucy Liu did an excellent job in their roles as Hespera and Kalypso and were definitely the stand outs, but even their combine powers of brilliant thespianism were no match for the evil that is DCEU's knack for fumbling their films. There was at least one scene at the end of the movie that was kinda cool, but it really doesn't make up for the rest of the movies inability to "wow" me. This was not what I would call a "worthy sequel" to the first Shazam movie. Not only does it pale in comparison to the original, but it will more than likely dissipate from most peoples memories shortly after they’ve watched it. 4/10

Liked it but it made me disappointed that they may not do a 3rd one because of what is set up.... If (big if) they do a 3rd one, they'll have to recast the kids. Also, how did the foster parents not recognize their daughter (Mary) as a superhero since she looks exactly the same even as a Shazam? They don't even do a quick, cute little "no one recognizes Superman when he wears glasses." Even a half-butted throway joke explanation would have been better than just ignoring this plot hole

I waited to watch this on streaming and it was a fun movie which i enjoyed a good amount, especially some of the comedy. However, i am glad that i waited because it didn't really do anything too special and i feel the villains plot could have been more developed, because i got a bit confused and lost at times. In my opinion, this is just a fun watch and i would describe it as: "Enjoyable, epic and funny but flawed. If it were a marvel movie it would get quite a lot of hate"
