Shazam! is an upcoming American superhero film based on the DC Comics character of the same name. Produced by New Line Cinema, it is intended to be the seventh installment in the DC Extended Universe (DCEU). Directed by David F. Sandberg from a screenplay by Henry Gayden, and a story by Gayden and Darren Lemke, the film is set to star Asher Angel as Billy Batson, a teenage boy who can transform via the magic word "Shazam" into an adult superhero, played by Zachary Levi. Shazam! also features Mark Strong, Jack Dylan Grazer, and Djimon Hounsou as supporting characters. It will be the first film version of the character since the 1941 serial Adventures of Captain Marvel (the character's original name) and will be the first full-length feature film centered around the character.
Development of a live-action Shazam! film began at New Line in the early 2000s, but languished in development hell for many years. The film went into pre-production in 2008 with director Peter Segal and writer John August, and Dwayne Johnson considered to star as the villain Black Adam, but the project fell through. William Goldman, Alec Sokolow, Joel Cohen, Bill Birch, and Geoff Johns, among others, were all attached to the project as writers at various points. The film was officially announced in 2014, with Johnson attached to star as either Shazam or Black Adam.[5] He would later be cast in January 2017 to lead a solo Black Adam development project. Sandberg signed on to direct Shazam! in February 2017 and Levi was cast that October with Angel joining the following month. Principal photography began in Toronto, Ontario, Canada in January 29, 2018, with most of the film shot at Pinewood Toronto Studios, and wrapped on May 11, 2018.
Shazam! is scheduled for release in the United States by Warner Bros. Pictures in RealD 3D, Dolby Cinema and IMAX 3D on April 5, 2019.

Seriously, DC Comics and WB needs to STOP holding back about the true power of SHAZAM. Solomon, a mortal with a genius-level intellect. Hercules, a legendary Greek demigod with the amazing physical strength and endurance . Atlas, a Titan who's probably BEYOND Earth-level plus. Zeus, the legendary deity who controls and generates thunder and lightning plus immortal and almost indestructible. Achilles, the demigod who's fearless, durable and highly trained combatant. Mercury, the Roman god with the impressive super speed. Bill Parker and C.C. Beck's classic superhero creation deserves to be the next best thing for DC Comics before or after the 80th anniversary...

it's Greek, and Roman gods in addition to the Hebrew King Solomon that were the legendary sources of Billy's power. Mercury and Hercules are Roman versions of the Greek gods.

Shazam in the past has single handedly pushes stars, even one pushing a titanic star. What many people get wrong is that his powers are not magical in nature. Though he gets his powers through magic lightning, his powers are actually Divine in nature. And as Zeus has said to Superman, His powers (Zeus's) might as well be magic to him (Superman). Another thing people often do not know is that Shazam does not get 1 single power from all the beings he gets powers from. He has the courage and fighting prowess and abilities of Achilles. He has the strength of Hercules and of Atlas. All his powers are added to by Zeus.

Post-Crisis Captain Marvel was NEVER said to be faster than the Flash, Superman said he was in a NON-CANON story called Justice in which the Flash had already exhausted himself by running for hours. Either retract this statement or debate me on it so I can make you retract it.

Fun fact: Captain Marvel (Billy Batson) the character's true original name was Captain Marvelous before the name was changed to Captain Marvel. This was back when the Captain Marvel character and the name were owned by Parker, Beck and Fawcett. DC should have changed Parker, Beck and Fawcett's Captain Marvel's name to Captain Marvelous instead of changing it to Shazam because Shazam is the name of the wizard, not Billy Batson's superhero alter-ego. I'm sure DC will reboot Shazam (Billy Batson) and rename him Captain Marvelous in the future.

It is implied that herc strength is nothing compared to the new god strength. Also, he was able to beat up darkseids dad shown at 6:57. Main problem is that they didn't show much of billy new god powers. They also reverted it back in his new series I believe.

Quick question. Isn't Shazam the Wizard? Billy never becomes the wizard, the wizard just gives him the power. If you don't want to call him Captain Marvel, it would make more sense to call him Billy Marvel. He is not Shazam. It would also be impractical for him to name himself the name he uses to transform. That is why all the other Marvel's call themselves by their first names before the Marvel.

Also, Flash is the fastest man alive in every continuity. Flash's speed is is infinite, allowing all flashes to go FASTER THEN THE TIME BARRIER CAN CONTAIN. And Billy's strength is at a much greater level then superman,. The lightning is just a bonus. This is often shown to be the reason he always beats superman. That and the wisdom of Solomon, which makes him know whatever Solomon knows and can figure out. His personality doesn't change because of it, he just does whatever Solomon suggests, including how to behave. It's not an inconsistency.

I really excited to see this movie, but I couldn’t help but think... If this was a female then Shazam would be getting that exact same criticism that I have heard about Captain Marvel.
