In this video, I fill a neighbor/s request to clean up 3 abandoned meadows on her property. These meadows had downed trees, briars, autumn olive, and various stumps hidden in them. Over the course of 2 days, I was able to get them cleared.

Nice job. One thing that I do when using the brush hog in a field that might/does have impediments is to run the bucket a few inches off the ground to catch rocks/tree stumps/logs before the brush hog finds them.
@u15Gummi
@u15Gummi 7 ай бұрын
I do the same thing! Down here there’s a bunch of rocks that are sneaky. If I’m mowing a pasture for the first time, leaving the bucket low as a warning indicator has saved my bacon many times. The only downside to it, is that it puts a bunch of dust and pollen up in the air, so I have to clear the radiator pre-screen more often. A small price to pay versus a torn up piece of equipment

You should make a video of how to identify different tree species. Just a very basic video of how you do your evaluation. I am new to the rural living and I am sure there are others like me that watch in awe how you name them! LOL!! Great video of being a great neighbor. Aloha! Thanks Troy!

My state has a pocket field guide for tree identification. I find it to be very useful, as a new property owner myself. Having something like that may be beneficial for you.

Tree ID comes easy for me just from my knowledge of being in the nursery business and a grower for 67 years and doing some logging, wildflower’s and ginseng digging while a teenager. Identifying cut logs on a log truck is more of a challenge for most nurserymen than identifying plants and trees. Where I find the picture this app handy is in weed and grass ID I grew up hearing a lot of these called names from the old timers that wasn’t the correct name. They have a free version of this too.

LoL! The Ugly Cheer!! Nice human cleaning up! Goats & sheep love autumn olive. After you cut the autumn olive out, brush on some "brush killer" Greg Judy has the recipe on a video called Cleaning up invasive species. he quotes his recipe for brush killer as, "1 quart of Crossbow : 5 gallons of red diesel." And he shows how to apply it--sparingly is effective. Greg has some very good knowledge. Blessings to ya'll

Looks a lot better, I'm sure your neighbor is grateful. I have some big winter autumn olive projects that I'll be tearing into soon. If you don't stay on top of it then you turn around and it's taken over everything. That and oriental bittersweet take most of my time rehabilitating a bunch of my property that was neglected by the previous owner. The good thing is that like you I get a lot of enjoyment out of putting in the hard work and seeing the drastic change in the way the land looks. It's very satisfying. Since I have to do most of by hand due to the rocky nature of the hillsides I'll be working on, it'll be quite the workout too.

I had an 80 acre farm in NW Ohio. It was all farm ground when I bought it but I love trees and small game hunting so I planted an assortment of about 30,000 trees and shubs. My favorite was Autumn Olive. I planted one row on 3 sides so a total of 3/4 of a mile of them. I also wanted to plant multiflower roses but when I was planting, they were already banned in Ohio. Some of the best rabbit hunting I ever did was around multiflower roses.

Amazon link to the type of plugs I use. I also recommend installing a 12v aux cigarette lighter type plug at the same time. It’s nice for a small compressor if you need air for tires, charge your phone. I forgot to mention that, there is another zing thing you can do if you mount that heavy duty plug. You can charge your battery through it without needing to remove the shroud to access your battery. You just install a set of plugs on your wires to the alligator clips and when you want to charge your tractor battery, unplug the alligators and plug right into the tractor plug. Your life will be changed forever.

I'm in agreement with "Inlogix" (first commenter.) Not criticizing -- just a couple of points to ponder: don't view it as overgrown -- unless you/neighbor are going to use it. (I comprehend it isn't your property and you're helping a neighbor, but perhaps consider the over-winter critters who need cover?) How about leaving more of the downed trees and the stumps you ripped out for critter-cover? (Yes, I saw you push some toward the hill.) Winter is coming and the non-migratory birds as well as the smaller critters need snug hidey-holes. "Bio-dens" are really important for all sized fauna in the forest. What about a low-intensity burn, or a few patch-burns to clear the meadows, areas around the stumps and along the road/ditch? If done thoughtfully and with sufficient care/planning, can help return nutrients back into the soils quickly. Burns also re-green with startling rapidity. (Before the downers jump in to condemn the practice, note I said "thoughtfully." Not "light 'er up and walk away" resulting in widespread destruction and lawsuits.) Just a few thoughts to counter the rip sh-t out and burn-pile-it-all gang. (Yes, I fully expect to be attacked, hereafter.) -An 80-acre, mostly forested property owner, (who practices more than he preaches,) in the Willamette Valley, Or.

Calling the area in 'worst shape' is prejudice against nature. Your subconscious is creating a 'battle against nature'. I would use 'most/more natural state'. Challenge your subconscious to change by careful selection of your words/thoughts of the work you do. Over time the gratitude and love of working outdoors will increase helping heal anyone's soul.
