I actually plan on getting motorcycle license in may (I turn 18 in June) so if I pass and the such what would people say I should buy! I’m currently looking at a ninja 400 for now is there any other bikes people would recommend I look into? I won’t pay more then 8-10k since you know I have to have insurance and I am only 17. See if you can do some test rides of bikes that interest you. As for gear, I'm really pleased with Scorpion helmets. I'm using a Richa textile suit (Touareg I think) because the weather is all over the place where I live.

Absolutely look at the FZ/MT-07. It was my first bike and I do not regret it. I feel like I would have wasted my money by starting on something smaller. It is powerful enough to keep you entertained and pretty forgiving. They are cheaper than 8-10k and dead nuts reliable. Plus that exhaust note tho!! Don't bother with suits, they are expensive and very uncomfortable. Get yourself a nice pair of gloves, a jacket, and helmet (I prefer my helmets to be both DOT and ECE rated). Boots will do you wonders too, I started with engineer boots but sport bike boots would fit you better on a bike like those. If you want to do it right, I would put aside another $1k just for gear alone.
