I think Lacey KNEW she's be working on Jay's corpse, because she was already deluding herself into believing she was working in a makeup parlor before Jay's body even appeared (she probably was given a list of all the identified corpses she'd be working on, and saw Jay's name on it).

But when she sees Jay's dead body, that's when it broke her out of her daydreaming state and into reality. In reality she work in a Mortuary, as an makeup cosmetologists. When she's having a mental breakdown on the floor in the dark room, it then flashes to her in a bright room that's colourful. It's showing her flickering to reality and daydreaming. In one scene she goes "No, no. I shouldn't be here, she shouldn't be here." implies that she had no idea she was going to work on Jay's dead body and she's trying to tell herself that Jay is still alive and that she's just a normal client.

She doesn't like her reality as it's just her suffering in every way possible, so she makes up illusions and daydreams a lot. So in her mind she doesn't work at the Morgue, she works at the makeup parlour.

Yeah, I think of all the Lacey games we've seen so far, Makeup Parlour has the coolest concept. The fact that Lacey was so far in denial about Jay's death, that she deluded herself into believing that she was working in a normal makeup parlor, and that Jay was a regular client who needed her makeup done, it was super sad, especially when the dark reality begins to set in, and Lacey can no longer keep up the facade.

Like, in her desperate attempt at bargaining for her best friend's life, she does the one thing Jay absolutely hates, and violates her corpse by making it appear more feminine. There's a split second frame during the goobye song that shows Lacey strangling her makeup parlor counterpart. I believe that's meant to show that Lacey regrets doing what she did to Jay's corpse.

The fact that all those other girls that Lacey was putting makeup on were probably also dead because of the maggots and the eyes opening and then having to "fix her" and their same like facial expression is just unsettling, it just kind of seems like she was preparing herself by using the other people in the morgue but still couldn't get used to or be okay with seeing her best friends dead body and just absolutely going bat shit insane at the end. It's like the whole thing was a trance that she was in (which i think can be pretty obvious gathered from the end).

i think Lacey was trying to avoid the fact that Jay's dead (we may say she was in tge Denial phase) and she had a reality hit when she had to receive her in the morgue (she prob was working there before the accident)

I think you're somewhat right. Like, I believe the "makeup parlor" was never real, and that Lacey was always working as a mortuary cosmetologist. But one day, she was given a list that contained all the name of the recently deceased whose bodies she'd be working on, and saw Jay's name at the end. Obviously she still hadn't accepted Jay's death at that point, so she began deluding herself into believing she was working in a normal makeup parlor, and that all her clients were normal and alive. It worked for the first five, in spite of some difficulties with rotting faces, bugs, and sudden eyes opening, but the second Lacey saw Jay, her delusions became harder to maintain as she became overwhelmed by grief. Eventually, she couldn't keep them up any longer, and we see the true dark reality for what it is. It's really messed up, but damn is it amazing writing.

explanation: Rocio made Lacey, Jay and Maisie. all having their own sense of style. due to Jay, moms were mad over her being so tomboyish. there was even a line where it was said by jay that "id be caught dead wearing makeup" so Rocio took this seriously and said "careful what you wish for" ( 10:10 ) and actually killed off Jay, and made her actually caught dead before wearing makeup. Lacey works as a mortuary cosmetologist here, so when she found Jay it was confirmed she was also dead. which made her start panicking. even throwing up. of course she goes in denial and etc, now, Lacey Maisie and Jay are the only real girls that are stuck in digital. Lacey's real body even being in wires. dying over and over and over again in digital, in an official image, Lacey mentions everytime she died, she feels less like herself (her real body.) so now that Jay died, theres only 2 real girls left to suffer. in 5:25 , Charlie, aka Charchar, aka the diner player, states "like she does to lacey?" basically pointing out that Rocio gave Lacey her Uncle and stalker and the diner and etc. torturing Lacey. hope that sums things up, love this series

Don't know if you noticed,but at around 10:01 you can see some emails from angry parents about jay not being girly enough for a girls' games girl,and the first two emails aren't that clear but I can only make out the last one,it says "I can definitely agree that a character that says "I'd only be caught dead wearing makeup" in one of her games is not a role model little girls should be having,I dont know why they couldn't just keep lacey and the other one and get rid of the boygirl thing. I can't remember if it was in this laceygames video or another, but there were a lot of images showing parents complaining about how Jay was a 'bad influence' on kids because of her tomboyish nature (one even saying laceygames would be better without Jay entirely). Rocio responded with 'careful what you wish for ;-)' and killed Jay off. The whole reason Jay was killed was because she was proud of how boyish she appeared, and wouldn't be caught dead wearing makeup. Lacey putting makeup on Jay was a last-stitch effort to bring her back and save her, but it was already too late. yeah, really sad stuff
