Robert, no matter how much history you explore, there is just one more piece you have to find. I would have liked to hear more about the lore of the witch. I was a little off guard hearing Dan do the intro today and having a Story ancestor helps frame things up is a big plus. Joy's trek to locate her distant ancestors is something I can empathize with after finding my birth family four years ago.

My ears perked up when I heard Joy's grandfather was named Jesse Storey. I had a great-granduncle named Jesse Story (no "e"). His family was from the Story Community which was located near Acworth, GA in Cobb County. This was mid to late 1800s. Had to wonder if they were somehow related.

Very neat history of this family. I'm so glad that Joy has found the burial place of her 4th great grandfather and his wife. I cant help but be curious about their daughter who is buried beside her parents. I wonder what caused her to possibly be thought of as a witch? Maybe she was just a little "different" and the townspeople blamed her for happenings that she had nothing to do with. This was a great video, Robert, Dan and Joy! ❤

I have always been interested in history and took a few too many classes in college that were not needed to graduate with my non-history degree. However once of this channel I've enjoyed watching the trek through the area and the history. In fact, I have traced generations of Patton's on my father's side across the east, south and southeast of the US and the rest of the USA. Including a Mathew Patton of Wilkes, Georgia. While another Samuel Patton of Oglethorpe, Georgia is buried. I am sure there's a few more in the GA area, as there's others found in VA, AR, NC, KY as well.

My mother's family in Taylor county are McDaniels. I wonder if there is a McDaniel/Storey connection with my family?
@joyfisher212810 ай бұрын
My dad's side the Kersey's are in Taylor County near Mauk. Who are the McDaniel's you are thinking of in Taylor. I think I may know the group and there is a distant DNA connection between the Waverly Hall area "county-line" McDaniel's and those. If you give me some names I can see if I can confirm that.
@vickiegordon195910 ай бұрын
@@joyfisher2128 My grandparents were Thomas Hoke McDaniel and Hazel McDaniel. They lived in Reynolds Ga.
@joyfisher212810 ай бұрын
@@vickiegordon1959 I would need to go farther back with your grandparents to confirm the connection but my thinking is that your Hoke and Hazel McDaniel are likely connected to the "Carsonville" McDaniels. Carsonville was originally part of Talbot County but in 1852 it became located in Taylor County when that county was formed. This area had "an early Methodist society" according to "A Rockaway In Talbot v.4" (Davidson). "The Methodist Episcopal Church at Carsonville stood on the land when one acre was deeded to the trustees of the church April 6, 1842 by Robert Carson, part of Land Lot No. 131, 24th Land District, and known as Carsonville Methodist Episcopal Church."(p.189) One of the trustees named in this indenture was Howell Short. His brother in law was Harris M. McDaniel (b.1809). Howell and his brother John Short married Harris M. McDaniel's sisters (Sarah and Mary McDaniel, respectively). Harris M. McDaniel's parents were William D./O. McDaniel (b. 1787 NC) and Dorothy "Dolly" Harris (b. 1787 NC). You have to go back further in time to Harris McDaniel's 3rd or 4th great grandparents to find the shared ancestor with the "Waverly Hall" McDaniel's but the DNA does prove it. That Carsonville, Talbot/Taylor location is what makes me suspect you are connected to the William & Harris McDaniel line. You'll have to let me know if any of these names are familiar. Good luck in your research!

It's harder to get folks here not to want to raze everything and start over. I wish we protected more of our history than we often do. And the difference just between the East Coast (older) and West Coast (newer) is even more stark. It's interesting the differences in what cultures value.
