Far as I know: the reason Bruce has to deal with the Savage Hulk, Joe Fixit, Devil Hulk, and so-on is because of the trauma he went through as a child and it eventually blossoming into a form of dissociative identity disorder. Jen can control her Hulk form because she, and most other Gamma changed people (in the comics) don't have the same mental disorder Bruce does. Hell, most of the other people who become Hulks/Hulk-like beings prefer their Hulk form to their normal one, which makes controlling that form even easier! The only gamma mutated people I can think of who hate what they are would be: Flux, Abominatrix, and Ogress in the comics. I'm far from surprised they simply decided to take what could've been an interesting story of self-discovery and turn it into "I'm just the better Hulk without even trying".

A good writing team could work this into the story a present a situation where they end up both acknowledging the other had a point without demeaning the others point of view...but if the writing team admits they aren't good enough to write a court room drama for a series about a lawyer, I doubt they're good enough to make that happen

Part of the Hulk's longstanding popularity comes from the relatability of the story (like most popular superheroes). People who lose control of their tempers in real life don't usually destroy cities, but they still can cause a lot of harm in other ways, and people with anger issues often describe themselves as having a monster, demon, another evil version of themselves, etc. inside them. So basically the She-Hulk writers completely stripped the Hulk persona not only of its most interesting aspect, but also its most relatable. I guess I shouldn't be surprised--they found many opportunities to beat viewers on the head with Their Message, and that's clearly as much thought as they put into their script. So...mission accomplished in kind of a George Bush II on the deck of an aircraft carrier sort of way.

I recall in the 90s Teenage Mutant Ninja Titles series, there was an episode where Shredder just dumped some massive exposition to Krang, and he asked, "why are you telling me this?" (I am paraphrasing) And Shredder basically motions to the viewers and says, "I'm not telling you, i'm telling them!" Looking at it now as adult, I thought that was very clever way to squeeze in quick exposition while being funny.

Two ways I think they could have made the fourth wall break work: 1. She makes tictoc or youtube vidios her "Breaking the fourth wall" is her talking to her camera for thos videos. 2. As a comparison. In The Incredible Hulk, the Hulk actually had a developmenmt of character over the episodes. A subtle nuance of how he interacted , and especially his his 'arch nemesis' McGee. On the real, let's talk about the end of the bar scene. Bruce tackles her, they cut to black, and she wakes up not knowing how she got to Mexico. The writers expect us to gloss over the fact that logistically he either carried her there, fully conscious, most likely kicking and screaming; Or he knocked her out with either the force of the tackle (unlikely, she's a hulk), by blow to the head (I doubt he would do that to his cousin and also, she's a hulk), or by using the inhibitor (which would have made sense if they didn't go on to say it's not calibrated for her, Bat-style, so it wouldn't work). An inhibitor? Seriously thats how they explained the resulting car crash and her becoming She Hulk ignoring the most important fact that if it was inhibiting him from becoming the Hulk wouldn't that also mean his blood COULDN'T turn her into the She Hulk?! It wouldn't magically become toxic once he bled unless he switched it off thus resulting in his going Hulk and therefore there shouldn't be any blood to infect Jen as she should have been hurt far worse than he was! Its a car crash its not as if he didn't have seat belt now wasn't there? Oh dear lord I sincerely thought this couldn't be even worse than I had heard, but yes they clearly thought they were being clever but sincerely aren't!
@thefanwithoutaface81052 жыл бұрын
Yup, in the comics Jen became She-Hulk after being shot by a mobster and needed a blood tranfusion, which only Bruce could give. It was thanks to their shared genetic makeup that she didn't get killed by the gamma in Bruce's blood. This also explained why she was much weaker than Bruce but had way more control and is also a more satisfying origin story. But that would require the writers to make the man seem heroic and obviously they don't give a shit about that.
@Darkwintre2 жыл бұрын
@@thefanwithoutaface8105 Is it possible Jen is lying about what happened as a salve to her ego? Why the heck did a spaceship cross their path? Chris Gore apparently liked this after watching 4 episodes so I'm left wondering how do they redeem that train wreck? The only idea I can think of is reveal that isn't what happened and she's denying that to herself as a way of dealing with the resulting trauma. She clearly never thought much of her cousin even after learning he was the Hulk and that crap about Cap sounds too far fetched for anyone mentally competent so perhaps its her dodging the real issue? Me I would have revealed General Ross dying from cancer has become desperate for a cure so arranges an ambush there is no inhibitor as it isn't needed Jen is hurt badly in the crash, Bruce rescues her the arm is actually him hamming things up as he's recovered by now but is using it to avoid returning to life as the hero he was. He gets Jen to safety, but they're pursued forcing Bruce to give Jen the blood transfusion which eventually causes her to turn into the She Hulk and run off forcing him to follow to prevent anyone else getting hurt. Their pursuers find their makeshift hospital and retrive the remains of the blood transfusion thats tested to see if its genuine resulting in the creation of Titania. She is sent after them, but the tracker leads her to Jen instead thus when Jen knocks her out its because she's received a weaker form of the Banner serum that flows in her veins rather than Bruce's. Ross manages to get the blood sample from Bruce directly as Bruce obviously wants the save the life of his former girlfriends father. That results in the creation of the Red Hulk, but also leads to other villains and heroes as Doc Sampson using the blood trasfusion to empower various other subjects whilst answering to Ross. Sorry I can't help wondering how to turn this into something decent rather than the mess it currently is. I assume we're going to see Jen and Matt meet in the courthouse?

I didn't really have a problem with the female perspective being portrayed per say. I have a problem with the context in which it was presented. There is a reasonable critique on the writing. Jennifer did come off unlikeable because she was cruel and so dismissive of bruce's experiences. The fact that she says she has to manage her anger "infinitely" more than bruce is completely untrue. He's not some random average dude. Yeah, she's had to deal with guys catcalling, "manplaining", etc. But try having the world see you as monster for years and the government trying to hunt you down and turn you into a lab experiment. I really wish the show allowed bruce to further give her his perspective so she wouldn't be as dismissive. As people, we do have occasional moments where we lose control and heightened emotions take over. In the case of a hulk, a moment like that can have devastating consequences. Jen being so cavalier about her ability to be control of her emotions 24/7 and being so dismissive of bruce's advice shows she has a problem listening to reason. She's not taking it seriously. I get that they are trying to portray a female perspective on what it's like to be a woman. It just does not work well here in this context.
@Wanda7112 жыл бұрын
Except that that's not what it's like to be a woman. A woman isn't callous and dismissive of someone else's pain. If a woman heard an account of what Bruce had been through, she wouldn't just shrug, say "Sucks to be you!" and saunter off feeling smugly superior. Normal women are empathetic and frankly sentimental - they gravitate to "the caring professions" for a reason. The brittle, hard-boiled feminist icon is a complete inversion of what women really are and what they want to be.

I'm writing that this is my PERSONAL idea, that this is what I would have written as her explanation to Bruce instead of being Gender profiled by men.

Or perhaps for defending a client that she knows is toxic? That would be an issue I could see having anger management problems with. But none of that is what her problem is. Her problem is having men failing to see her natural superiority over them.

Your initial "wtf" was very natural. Awesome, love it!

I'm kind of glad I wasn't the only one who got "hooker" vibes from the bar scene. I honestly think that could have been handled well. Instead of "men bad" (and yea, kind of), they could have actually given a lesson that would be helpful... But nah. I think watching the trailers was more than this show deserved. I do like Tatiana Mislany though. Looking forward, aren't you excited to see Daredevil in this?

They made one of the toxic men a black guy....which really surprised me for Disney+

Right I'm surprised she said yes after reading the script. She was brilliant in Orphan Black & pretty much everything I've seen her in since. She's an intelligent woman I just can't see how she didn't see how god awful this is.

She went from Orphan Black to this crap. Why?

Jen's whole 'I'm infinitely better at controlling my emotions/rage' spiel is made all the funnier when it's obvious by the tone of her voice that she's barely keeping it together as is - yet we're still supposed to believe her claims.

Married With Children is a treasure, sad to see Peggy having fallen on such hard times that she had to star in this thing. Hope the rest of the family is at least doing better. Alas, the She-Hulk cartoon I remember from when I was but a wee lad was quite good. Shame to see it bastardized such.

Not my favorite, but not as bad as some people are saying I definitely prefer other versions of She-Hulk more but I'm hoping that it will get better. One of my biggest criticisms is when Jen is talking about how she's constantly regulating her feelings because she'll be lightly scolded for being overly emotional, acting like men aren't told not to show any emotions besides stoicism and are made fun of by both other men and women if they show emotions at all. News Flash to women, you aren't the only people told not to be overly emotional. Everyone is. You're not being specially targeted for your emotions. People in general just aren't comfortable around highly emotional scenes in public. Trust me when I say Jen does not control her emotions infinitly more than Bruce. Bruce has been controlling his emotions far more than anyone else in the world has for over a decade. This is a perceived sexist situation only because men don't complain about it nearly as much. Why? Because nobody cares about how men feel. They're told to just deal with it. Catcalling isn't exactly cool, but it's hardly close to what Hulk/Bruce had to fear everyday of his life. The man tried to take his own life because of those Hulk condition, and lost two years of it because the Hulk took over completely. She-Hulk has always been more of a extension of Jen's ideal version of a women then an alternate personality like Hulk was. Instead of a rage machine brought about by parental abuse, she just gets more in touch with feminine stuff while still being a badass Hulk lady, without putting men down. Unlike in this show. You want to talk sexism? How about a society where just the word of a woman accusing a man of s*xually assaulting her is enough to get a man put in jail for 20 years, and when it's revealed she lied because she was drunk and embarrassed about something she did, it still takes months and months for him to be released, and she gets 1-2 years in jail, half of what the man she accused served before he was released. How about a court system that will nearly always side with women in cases of custody, child support and alimony regardless of why the divorce is happening? Men are discriminated against as well. In very seriously life altering ways. But nobody cares. They care about the women though...

I mean, I knew this was going to be bad. I came in fully aware that you'd rip it apart, and I'm so happy. I don't know why I get such enjoyment listening to you rip apart bad writers, but, thank you.
