That scene where she lecture Hulk about how she has it harder at controlling her anger, making it seem like catcalling and being talked down to is apparently worse than being the subject of a multiple year long manhunt, fearing for the safety of litterally every person if he gets even a little anger, being forced to abandon his life, friends and family, and becoming so depressed he tried to kill himself only for that to fail, is easily one of the most infuriating scenes in any hero story. How entitled does this chick think she is and how full of themselves are the writers to actually believe a guy who was suicidal for god know how long has it easier than a woman.

The scene that made me really like Kate Bishop's character in Hawkeye was the scene right after Hawkeye losses his hearing aid and she helps him communicate with his son over the phone. She had a bit of an attitude up til then but at that moment you can see her realizing what he sacrificed to save the world and what he was currently sacrificing to help her and she genuinely felt sympathy and regret for dragging him into the situation they were now in. Plus afterwards to help cheer him up she goes out of her way to throw him a Christmas party just like the kind he would have had if he hadn't come to help her. To me that was why she came off as a genuinely likable character

In the comics, Jen's origin was that a mob boss named Nicholas Trask called a hit on her because she was working with one of Trask's men who was turning state's evidence in a case against Trask. Trask also killed her mother. So you were somewhat right about her comic origin. Which, ironically enough, if they kept her origin of Trask calling a hit on her would justify the "I could get literally murdered" line.

Also if stress and anger are her triggers, then being a lawyer is the WORST job for that sort of thing. No joke, being a Lawyer ranks right up there with doctor as one of the most stressful jobs out there. I've heard horror stories of lawyers often getting very little sleep for weeks when working on cases, turning to alcohol and other substances to cope and even suicide being a fairly common thing to. So yeah, Bruce telling her to stop being a lawyer, especially with how emotionally unstable this jenn is, is very smart.

I had one Hulk comic book a long time ago and that one alone showed A'LOT of horrible stuff Bruce Banner had gone through: City being mostly destroyed by Hulk. Lot's of people dead, dying or seriously hurt. Hearing the cry and scream of people around him, knowing that he caused everything. Living without place to sleep, begging for food or anything helpful. Being social outcast, since he has to constantly stay low from army pursuer. He even tried suicide by shooting himself into his mouth, failing since bullet couldn't harm him and he transformed to Hulk yet again. These are just a small sample of Bruce Banner's life experience. Comic fans can probably come up more stuff.

And it made me angry, not rage way but more silently for a reason I explained previously. I didn't like at all how in that scene She-Hulk downplayed Bruce's horrible experience. It's like for example telling to a trauma patience that you don't have real problems, which I sadly have seen in real life.
@DragonmanX90
@DragonmanX90 2 жыл бұрын
Far as I know: the reason Bruce has to deal with the Savage Hulk, Joe Fixit, Devil Hulk, and so-on is because of the trauma he went through as a child and it eventually blossoming into a form of dissociative identity disorder. Jen can control her Hulk form because she, and most other Gamma changed people (in the comics) don't have the same mental disorder Bruce does. Hell, most of the other people who become Hulks/Hulk-like beings prefer their Hulk form to their normal one, which makes controlling that form even easier! The only gamma mutated people I can think of who hate what they are would be: Flux, Abominatrix, and Ogress in the comics. I'm far from surprised they simply decided to take what could've been an interesting story of self-discovery and turn it into "I'm just the better Hulk without even trying".

The whole "I can control my anger speech...," could have worked if they used the fact she's a lawyer. Particularly a prosecutor. Lawyers have one of the most stressed filled jobs and yet a good chunk of it requires them to calm and level headed. Or maybe dealing with the stress of knowing the person's guilty but evidence is circumstantial. They didn't need the woman speech!

Your 100% right the lawyer speech would've been more effective, not just for anger control but also cause this is a Lawyer show. Did the writers forget that? The whole premise of the show is She-Hulk representing superpowered clients, their either heroes, villains or just rando's. And the main reason she's in charge of this is because she has powers too so she can relate to them or just be a publicity stunt. You don't think one or all of them would want a piece of a 'super' soldier inside them? And that was before he and Peggy actually spent a lot of time together. They really lean into the women are bad drivers trope, don't they? She crashes her car, almost killing her cousin, then later she HITS him with his own car. The food porn is because they're fat wine 'moms' that are miserable and all they do is eat their sadness away. Also, she killed a guy at the bar. I mean, you see her HIT him full force. And remember, she always had FULL control of her actions. Ooops. And let it sink in, she's so mentally fragile and emotionally unstable that getting catcalled (such a humble brag, as if men think that five is actually worth sleeping with), and doing her job, which is full of liars and know-it-alls, sets her off in a near MURDEROUS RAGE! The bathroom scene is horrible in two ways: 1) the women coming in jump to the conclusion that Jen was abused... their lifes must suck if that is their first thought. 2) they destroy evidence with their make-over. And leave her alone to wait outside for her lift. W T F? Jen gives her line about emotional control and becomes agitated towards the end... but not even a hint of transforming. It won't happen that way. You can tell because the writers portray the side male characters as all assholes, so they're trying to validate her point of view. If they showed her as effectively the unreasonable one, then it'd be a hint that she's the one in the wrong, but there's zero evidence of that. It'd be a fresh new spin on things if they actually had her develop into a better person and experience character growth, but it seems like this "comedy" is just going to draw on the cliched man-hating feminist playbook for the entire thing. I hate to say it but even Batwoman had more positive male characters than this show does so far.

It's almost cute when incel dude bros go on the offensive with their fantasy of total enslavement of women but don't you think it's silly to be so afraid of us that the only thing you can think of is to root for our suffering? What do you think equal rights and treatment for women would do to hurt your lifestyle? Are you concerned it will make it more difficult to get away with assaulting women? I am sure it's tough to get a girl when you hate all women. Maybe you should just give into the voice inside and ask a guy out.

The fantasy is more pervasive than you think. Romance films are to women what p*rn is to men. They both deal with a fantasy (for women it's "average woman gets chased by rich and powerful man", for men it's hot women falling over themselves to fulfil his desires), and the overconsumption of both leads to a warped view of the other sex and a massive entitlement on what they can bring to a relationship.

@@katieell4084 Because feminism is an antiquated movement, fighting for equal rights that it already has in the modern western world. Now it’s just a bunch of misandrists pretending to want equality when they want special treatment. And women aren’t treated as bad as they may think. They’ll get hired for a quota regardless of competence (Case in point this show runner who doesn’t even know how to write trial scenes). Women are more likely to get custody. Men tend to get r***d in prison more than women do. Men get chastised for hitting a woman despite it being in self defense. Not to mention feminists have spitting out myths for years. There’s no patriarchy because women can be in positions of power and one almost became president. There’s no wage gap because the women don’t factor in things like overtime, hours worked, education etc. Plus they don’t understand they have equal opportunity for pay not equal outcome. There’s also them advocating taking the lives of babies in the womb which is an abomination. Life is sacred. And before you pull the r**e card, that’s no excuse to take the baby’s life. The child should not be sacrificed for the sins of the parents. Furthermore most women only do it out of convenience for their career, education, or peer pressure, and won’t take responsibility. A good writing team could work this into the story a present a situation where they end up both acknowledging the other had a point without demeaning the others point of view...but if the writing team admits they aren't good enough to write a court room drama for a series about a lawyer, I doubt they're good enough to make that happen

Part of the Hulk's longstanding popularity comes from the relatability of the story (like most popular superheroes). People who lose control of their tempers in real life don't usually destroy cities, but they still can cause a lot of harm in other ways, and people with anger issues often describe themselves as having a monster, demon, another evil version of themselves, etc. inside them. So basically the She-Hulk writers completely stripped the Hulk persona not only of its most interesting aspect, but also its most relatable. I guess I shouldn't be surprised--they found many opportunities to beat viewers on the head with Their Message, and that's clearly as much thought as they put into their script. So...mission accomplished in kind of a George Bush II on the deck of an aircraft carrier sort of way.

The writers expect us to gloss over the fact that logistically he either carried her there, fully conscious, most likely kicking and screaming; Or he knocked her out with either the force of the tackle (unlikely, she's a hulk), by blow to the head (I doubt he would do that to his cousin and also, she's a hulk), or by using the inhibitor (which would have made sense if they didn't go on to say it's not calibrated for her, Bat-style, so it wouldn't work). It wouldn't magically become toxic once he bled unless he switched it off thus resulting in his going Hulk and therefore there shouldn't be any blood to infect Jen as she should have been hurt far worse than he was! Its a car crash its not as if he didn't have seat belt now wasn't there? Yup, in the comics Jen became She-Hulk after being shot by a mobster and needed a blood tranfusion, which only Bruce could give. It was thanks to their shared genetic makeup that she didn't get killed by the gamma in Bruce's blood. This also explained why she was much weaker than Bruce but had way more control and is also a more satisfying origin story. But that would require the writers to make the man seem heroic and obviously they don't give a shit about that.
@Darkwintre

@@thefanwithoutaface8105 Is it possible Jen is lying about what happened as a salve to her ego? Why the heck did a spaceship cross their path? Chris Gore apparently liked this after watching 4 episodes so I'm left wondering how do they redeem that train wreck? The only idea I can think of is reveal that isn't what happened and she's denying that to herself as a way of dealing with the resulting trauma. She clearly never thought much of her cousin even after learning he was the Hulk and that crap about Cap sounds too far fetched for anyone mentally competent so perhaps its her dodging the real issue? Me I would have revealed General Ross dying from cancer has become desperate for a cure so arranges an ambush there is no inhibitor as it isn't needed Jen is hurt badly in the crash, Bruce rescues her the arm is actually him hamming things up as he's recovered by now but is using it to avoid returning to life as the hero he was. He gets Jen to safety, but they're pursued forcing Bruce to give Jen the blood transfusion which eventually causes her to turn into the She Hulk and run off forcing him to follow to prevent anyone else getting hurt. Their pursuers find their makeshift hospital and retrive the remains of the blood transfusion thats tested to see if its genuine resulting in the creation of Titania. She is sent after them, but the tracker leads her to Jen instead thus when Jen knocks her out its because she's received a weaker form of the Banner serum that flows in her veins rather than Bruce's. Ross manages to get the blood sample from Bruce directly as Bruce obviously wants the save the life of his former girlfriends father. That results in the creation of the Red Hulk, but also leads to other villains and heroes as Doc Sampson using the blood trasfusion to empower various other subjects whilst answering to Ross. Sorry I can't help wondering how to turn this into something decent rather than the mess it currently is. I assume we're going to see Jen and Matt meet in the courthouse?

If the rest of the show mirrors this episode, I see two potential outcomes: 1. The path of Charlie's Angels 2019. The show will flop, men will be blamed, and it will be forgotten. 2. The path of Batwoman. The show's ratings(at least, from the audience) will plummet, but they'll keep bankrolling more seasons to appease Twitter activists.

There are multiple parts of this episode that reek of 'rough draft.' It's hard to tell during certain parts, since I have a hard time telling the difference between poorly thought out 3rd wave, and poorly thought out writing room. I'm almost positive the rushed quality makes up at least 2% of the issues tho.

Plus, she is a lot more dangerous of a fighter. How are the viewers supposed to take She-Hulk seriously as a superheroine, when they give us a villain that screams "Uh oh. We'd better make sure her opponent is clumsy and pathetic looking. So she'll look amazing in comparison. Sorry. It doesn't make her look amazing. It makes her look like "*This* is the best she can handle?"

Even other reviewers that were critical of it and recognized the s*** show that resulted from blatant and false feminist tropes did not go into the detail you did. I could see Steve giving in to one of the showgirls he toured with easily enough. Good and virtuous as he was, he spent his whole life being a unattractive weakling and suddenly he's surrounded by gorgeous women throwing themselves at him? And he's not in a relationship and to the best of his knowledge neither are there. So yeah...makes sense. He'd feel a bit guilty after maybe but that's it. Who knows. Maybe he even got fairly serious with one of them. Or thought so til she dumped him. lol

I didn't really have a problem with the female perspective being portrayed per say. I have a problem with the context in which it was presented. There is a reasonable critique on the writing. Jennifer did come off unlikeable because she was cruel and so dismissive of bruce's experiences. The fact that she says she has to manage her anger "infinitely" more than bruce is completely untrue. He's not some random average dude. Yeah, she's had to deal with guys catcalling, "manplaining", etc. But try having the world see you as monster for years and the government trying to hunt you down and turn you into a lab experiment. I really wish the show allowed bruce to further give her his perspective so she wouldn't be as dismissive. As people, we do have occasional moments where we lose control and heightened emotions take over. In the case of a hulk, a moment like that can have devastating consequences. Jen being so cavalier about her ability to be control of her emotions 24/7 and being so dismissive of bruce's advice shows she has a problem listening to reason. She's not taking it seriously. I get that they are trying to portray a female perspective on what it's like to be a woman. It just does not work well here in this context.
@Wanda711
@Wanda711 2 жыл бұрын
Except that that's not what it's like to be a woman. A woman isn't callous and dismissive of someone else's pain. If a woman heard an account of what Bruce had been through, she wouldn't just shrug, say "Sucks to be you!" and saunter off feeling smugly superior. Normal women are empathetic and frankly sentimental - they gravitate to "the caring professions" for a reason. The brittle, hard-boiled feminist icon is a complete inversion of what women really are and what they want to be.

I've said it on another video, but wouldn't the reason Jen has the ability to control her anger better than Bruce is because she's a Lawyer? I mean just imagine how much anger management and emotional control you'd need to do to not choke out the opposing team in the courtroom, am I right?

Not my favorite, but not as bad as some people are saying I definitely prefer other versions of She-Hulk more but I'm hoping that it will get better. One of my biggest criticisms is when Jen is talking about how she's constantly regulating her feelings because she'll be lightly scolded for being overly emotional, acting like men aren't told not to show any emotions besides stoicism and are made fun of by both other men and women if they show emotions at all. News Flash to women, you aren't the only people told not to be overly emotional. Everyone is. You're not being specially targeted for your emotions. People in general just aren't comfortable around highly emotional scenes in public. Trust me when I say Jen does not control her emotions infinitly more than Bruce. Bruce has been controlling his emotions far more than anyone else in the world has for over a decade. This is a perceived sexist situation only because men don't complain about it nearly as much. Why? Because nobody cares about how men feel. They're told to just deal with it. Catcalling isn't exactly cool, but it's hardly close to what Hulk/Bruce had to fear everyday of his life. The man tried to take his own life because of those Hulk condition, and lost two years of it because the Hulk took over completely. She-Hulk has always been more of a extension of Jen's ideal version of a women then an alternate personality like Hulk was. Instead of a rage machine brought about by parental abuse, she just gets more in touch with feminine stuff while still being a badass Hulk lady, without putting men down. Unlike in this show. You want to talk sexism? How about a society where just the word of a woman accusing a man of s*xually assaulting her is enough to get a man put in jail for 20 years, and when it's revealed she lied because she was drunk and embarrassed about something she did, it still takes months and months for him to be released, and she gets 1-2 years in jail, half of what the man she accused served before he was released. How about a court system that will nearly always side with women in cases of custody, child support and alimony regardless of why the divorce is happening? Men are discriminated against as well. In very seriously life altering ways. But nobody cares. They care about the women though...
