Alright lads, I just had to burst out at some point and today is the day! #SheHulk was 4 hours of misery and torment for me. I still can't believe it's a show produced by the same studio that has given me reasons to celebrate so many times. It's the same studio that gave us Captain America: Winter Soldier, Civil War, Avengers: Infinity War and Endgame! But unlike other unsatisfied viewers, I have provided points and reasons how they could have changed and improved the whole show. Please watch the complete video before you make up your mind seeing the title. The title of this video will be justified if you watch it at full length.

I know the title is harsh, I know the content is negative too. But I feel if we don't say what's wrong with the current Phase 4, we may never see an improvement. In this video you won't just find me complaining, I have tried my best to provide answers as to how this should could have been written so much better. Lemme know if you agree with the 5 points I mentioned.

And in the end we are the ones paying for those shows, so we're allowed to give them an opinion into what they did wrong and how to improve their content that we fans ARE PAYING FOR. This guy is spitting facts all over! The way to fight sexism isn't by only empowering women, but by treating each other equally: giving women the same chance as men, but also not being sexist towards men. The problem with movies right now comes from people shoving feminism down our throats instead of EQUAL treatment. I love the final point, Don't create strong female characters, create strong characters that are female. Black Widow, Pepper Potts, and Okoye, are all excellent examples.

Bruce also made the point that her now being a hulk meant she had to ALWAYS control herself. She has so much more power now that as Jen she could have absolutely flipped out on those cat callers and maybe killed one, but as a hulk the damage she could casually do was exponentially greater. And that's just 'mad', not 'mindlessly enraged'. It was a thing she didn't really understand until the award ceremony.

You know what the funny thing is that the disingenuous apology scene is not only is it unearned, but it directly contradicts what Jen said about controlling her anger/her life being harder. I mean, if her life was so difficult, then why would she make out that she couldn't handle the trauma that Bruce faced? It takes a real lack of continuity in your episodes for a scene to both ruin a potential payoff and contradict what is intended to be an important thematic point in a story.

Can't really blame you. It was the only way they could save the direction they were going. I lost faith that was going to happen with how consistent they were to present moments for her worldview to be challenged only to not change. Like when all those guys she dated testified for her. Perfect opportunity for her to realize how she objectified them and dismissed them as actual people, only for it to get twisted as them still thinking they're too good for a superhero. Jen is allowed to have preferences and standards but not men.

@@ShamefulToaster I’m a woman who has gone through some shitty events myself, and given the mocking “comedic” tone throughout still made it hard to take it seriously. And even though I’ve been a victim in plenty of cases, I’m still a flawed individual with my own issues I’m growing from. She-Hulk struggled to present her as anything but a victim or a hero… whenever she acted out, there’s always some justification for it. Until the ending, she went about the whole show with no issues controlling her anger because somehow there’s a trauma competition between her and Bruce. Basically, this whole show was really hard to get into. I thought the finale was going to finale give the character arc she desperately needed (a little late but still), but it turned into another big joke. I lost every hope I had with the show then.

Does anybody else find it kind of absurd that in the finale the writers put an entire sequence where they blatantly admit how absolutely shit their approach to the show was and certain “fans” proceeded to defend the show’s writing like they didn’t just literally admit to wasting an entire season on what they knew was bad?

It's the same in interviews. They admitted they knew how people would react and struck first instead of writing a good show to prove people wrong. Ironically, they did prove people wrong since most were expecting a good show and were excited until the misandry. Even the disjointed episodes and inconsistent character is because Jessica Gao had a writers meeting to talk about all the negative experiences as women in the workplace. And they put that into the show as catharsis for themselves.

I think when it comes to Jen not caring about her Hulk persona I think it boils down to not wanting to be a superhero. Bruce stuck with the name as his superhero name. She's not choosing to be a 'Hulk'; a superhero. She was actually willing to train with Bruce to control her rage and control her transformations. She initially wasn't thrilled with having a Hulk form at all, but has learned to live with it. But Bruce then suggests that her life will change forever and has to give up being a lawyer. Jen suggests that she can have her normal life despite being a Hulk, but Bruce suggests that because of their powers that's impossible. It's not that she doesn't care for being a Hulk AT ALL. That's how she started, but she learns to live with it by the end of the first episode. What she doesn't care for is being a superhero or having some fancy superhero name like She-Hulk. She wants, despite her new powers to have a "normal" life being a lawyer. But later on, despite not caring for/liking the name, she accepts that whether or not she likes it, she's forever known as She-Hulk and goes with it. Also when it comes to Dan, I think that take on the twerking scene was iffy. But I do think he has some balanced takes on the show. He's not responding to EVERYONE who doesn't like the show, but simply those who have disingenuous takes, like most of the men are vilified, and he says how most of the men were actually supportive and good. That the majority of vilified men are the villains themselves. Dan addresses the people who complain about comic accuracy, and Dan, someone who's written She-Hulk comics before moving on to Spider-Man says how it's the most comic accurate show on Disney+. It's not defending the show, he's just arguing against the people who had that criticism. He even got replies from people saying they just simply like it and stopped watching and he responded saying how that's a perfectly reasonable take. But other than that, I think your points are well taken. The show definitely has its problems, but I still enjoy it and I like your takes on it. I've seen many people talk about it in ways that weren't as reasonable as you or even Dan, and this video was overall, pretty good, even if I disagree with some points.

Except much of the criticism wasn't rooted in content and dialogue that was actually in the show. The best example: Walters was never told what the division was when she was offered the job, and when she was told, her issue was that her colleagues would think the only reason she got the job was because she was a Hulk (rather than being qualified for the job). She didn't actually have an issue with the head of the Superhuman department. Her issue was spelled out to the audience and Canadian Lad reinterpreted it as an issue with the job itself. The comparison to Parker/Stark was also completely inaccurate and a rewrite of the dialogue in Civil War; Parker clearly said "I didn't apply to your fund" before Stark told him he was there to bring him on as Spiderman- there was no indication he made the connection.

This is pretty much exactly what me and a lot of other people had in mind about the show. One other thing I'd like to add is that to me, it felt like the show couldn't decide on a plot. It started as a lawyer story, where the main character is also superhuman. Then, after two thirds of the show was over, the actual plot with the intelligencia started. Then, in the last episode, everything started to come together, but very messily. I know that was the whole point, and why Jen had to go find KEVIN, but dune things in the finale the writers just threw in only to make it feel messier, like Bruce and Titania. Then Jen basically got rid of the culmination of the show and skipped to a happy ending where she can go back to having only a lawyer show with a superhero. I just thought that if you were going to end the plot, just do it, even if it is weird. Just my personal opinion, but hopefully phase 5 is better!

While I agree on some of the points made here, especially show don't tell, there's other points that I feel I must defend. I don't think they need to show how women are treated in society because every woman out there already knows this and has lived that experience. And also throughout the show, they show you what kind of stuff women, specifically Jen, have to go through just because they're women. I disagree with the Steve Rogers comparison. Steve didn't know about the super soldier serum. Steve wanted to join the army in order to serve his country. He just want to be accepted as a soldier despite his size. He didn't care if he died in the process, as long as it meant helping his fellow. Which is what the grenade test demonstrates. His goal was not to become physically strong in order to be accepted, it was to demonstrate his strength of character and be accepted for that. That was the whole point of that first movie. Saying anyone can relate to Iron Man, but only women can relate to She-Hulk seems kind of biased. So much of the MCU is made up of cis straight white men: Iron Man, Captain America, Spider-Man, Doctor Strange, Ant-Man, Hulk, Star-Lord, Bucky Barnes, Hawkeye, Thor. They are treated as the default. And then cis straight white male fans rail against MCU properties that dare to break away from the norm. It's like how people hated Captain Marvel when it came out even though it was a perfectly fine movie. They are so used to seeing themselves on screen that they can't relate to anyone who deviates from themselves. This is why representation matters. Not just so that minorities can see themselves in the franchises that they love, but also so that other people, the people who are catered to the most, can expand their view and learn to relate to someone who is not their skin colour, gender, or sexual orientation. If you felt this show was only made for women, you need shift your perspective and learn to see things from outside your limited point of view. Not trying to be mean here. But to me, that's like saying you wouldn't play a game like Horizon or Celeste or Tomb Raider because you can only play as girl. Where as girls have been playing Mario and Sonic and Mega Man and Zelda for decades, which all star male protagonists most of the time, but they still enjoy them somehow. It's one thing to be hired because of your expertise on a subject matter, but it's a whole other thing to be paraded around the office as a diversity hire. Her boss literally told her to that if she doesn't work there in her She-Hulk form, she doesn't work there at all. Which is super messed up and would totally be grounds for an easy and costly lawsuit in any other circumstances! Imagine if someone was hired because they're gay and were assigned to work in an LGBTQ+ division, but then told to dress flamboyantly and speak in a stereotypical gay accent while at work or else they lose their job. That would be an instant and well-deserved lawsuit! It's the same for She-Hulk. The only reason she put up with it is because she really need the job. After all, this is America. Not Canada. So she's probably a mountain of student dept. I somewhat agree on we don't know She-Hulk's stance. Although we kind of do. She stands up for the law. She may not be Judge Dread, but there were a couple of times where she just wanted to use her Hulk powers to right injustices. Namely ones done to her. But she knew that was wrong in the eyes of the law and she couldn't go against those principles. I think they could have shown this better, but it is there. I think the villain of this show worked for She-Hulk. It's not some huge cosmic, world-ending threat. It's a very personal threat to her. Todd was never a physical threat. Only an emotional and social one. Which I like as it's different from the normal MCU villains and fits with what She-Hulk represents. Honestly, I think the bigger villain of this show wasn't the misogynistic little incel cult, but how everyone around her saw She-Hulk. An extension of her cousin at best or someone to be used and profited off of at worst. Take Arthur for example. As a trans woman, I can tell you that without a doubt, he is 100% a chaser allegory. FYI, a chaser is someone who fetishizes trans people and their only motivation is to sleep with them to fulfill their desire. They don't want to build a relationship or get to know them. This is exactly what Arthur was with Jennifer. He just wanted to have sex with a superhero. He didn't care about Jen as a person at all. Only a tool for his pleasure. Maybe I liked She-Hulk because the whole show did feel like one big trans allegory. Sticking out like sore thumb. Just wanting to be accepted for who you are. Not wanting to be perceived or portrayed as monster by other people. Always having to put on a perfect kind demeanour, even in the face of hate, ignorance, and bigotry, because you know that if lose control for just a second, that's how people will see you and people like you. Having a hard time finding clothes that fit.😅Etc. Sorry for such a long rant. I loved this show! I know some people didn't like this show for one reason or another. And yes, a lot of the writing could have been better. And yes, not everyone is going to relate to everything in it. But I think that's why it's a good idea to break out of your bubble and listen to other people's thoughts on the show. And hopefully She-Hulk season 2 will be a big improvement, and keep things that worked about the first season and address some of the more common issues people had.

This video really spoke to me! I legitimately think things like diversity and trying to appeal to groups who have historically been underrepresented are good things, but if you’re not going to put in the character development or storytelling effort, you’re actually cheapening these groups rather than elevating them. And branding anybody who provides constructive feedback as racist, sexist, homophobic, etc. just further alienates people who, while disappointed, what you to succeed.

I have a few critiques of my own about some of your points raised. I don’t see why we needed a montage of events like her being catcalled and belittled by men, 50% of the population has it happen to them, and most people agree it’s wrong. Jennifer’s claim of events that have happened to her are not her’s alone, so when a show says that’s what happens, we’re supposed to take it on good faith unless proven as an unreliable narrator which is not what we’re lead to. If you wanted the order of events shown be in chronological order to cut down on confusion then I get that, but it’s a show for entertainment that not everyone will like. Also contradictory character traits is common in real people (just because someone’s dad is in a union, doesn’t mean they will vote along with their best interests, same with alcoholics), she can be both happy about her new powers, and embarrassed by them, she is trying to strike a balance in her new life as a lawyer, superhero, and as a woman all at once.

This video is amazing! Clearly showed why we liked Wanda and Silvy but not she Hulk. Perfect way to explain how good villans are created. Marvel should use your video as a reference material while training new directors and story writers

I'd like a movie focusing on the earlier days of Bruce Banner who's in the run from General Ross and the military, his stress, trauma and depression, why he wants to end it all....Ik we have seen some of that in Incredible Hulk but I want to see that again done differently

I am now sure even more than ever that in the last episode even Jennifer realised how bad the show was and tried to make a better ending (she didn't succeed, however and just made it worse)

I personally really liked what Phase 4 had to offer, but I respect the criticism and agree with many of the shortcomings. Two major problems that this phase had were the excess of projects in a row, which did not allow time to polish the product, and the pandemic disturbing everyone's schedule.

The major problem was that the writing was TRASH. You know, the core of it all. Everything else is secondary.

@@_UNISTAR_ agree. Somehow they did a decent job at writing Loki, Wandavision, Moon Knight shows and movies like Black Panther, Shang Chi were no't bad either. They seem to have no problem dealing with a huge amount of projects, it's definitely the writing.

Phase 4 so far has a lot of new strong female characters that doesnt need to learn anything =]] plus some of the remain character that has same trait: strong, female, perfect I could say any Avenger or multiple faction involve would be fucking mess no matter what =]] Of course unless we have an army of stronger female antagonis to oppose that, a catfight of strong female characters would be interesting, right? WRONG! We have that thing call Wonderwoman sequel

Should have also mentioned the scene where Hulk can't stop a Jeep and gets thrown away so easily. Like COME ON man, is this the same Hulk that one punched a giant flying alien dead in its tracks that was rushing towards him?

To be fair, it's his jeep, so he didn't want to break it. And he was caught off guard. Still BS though.

It's not really the same hulk indeed, it's an hybrid form that doesn't have the same strength, and even he could have stopped the car, he would have destroyed it, and it was his car so why would he do that?

If you make a character and the only struggle they have is how the feel about things then you have a broken character. Norman said it best "people love a hero but they love most is to see a hero fail"

As long as Disney continues to push their agendas they will continue to lose fans, and not put the quality productions that made all the Disney, Star Wars, and Marvel creations great. Better storytelling, will obviously help us enjoy their work again.

I love that you're explaining why it isn't that good and how they could improve on that in a respectfully and maturely manner. Instead of just hating like how Nerdnorotic does and expecting that everyone knows what he's talking about.

@Bruce kemoabe Treu. He has some good points here and there. But his take is more of the behind-the-scenes stuff and also a little bit political at some points. But what i don't like is that sometimes he doesn't explain properly of what he is talking about. And he expects that we all understand of what he is saying. Like he shows a clip of a movie or a show that everyone on the internet is talking about, and after that, doesn't explain why it's that bad and says something like: and that's why the MCU is failing and ....ect he moves on the next topic. Like most of the time he just doesn't even explain briefly the context of the clip, he just moves on. And That's one of the reasons why I, personally don't like his take on that.

As a female marvel fan I can confidently say that I do not care if all the major roles are occupied by men as long as we don’t get a character as inconsistent, arrogant and “perfect” like the depiction of she-Hulk in this show. Especially since nowadays marvel seems pretty focused in depicting woman as strong and stoic and men as incompetent buffoons which has lead me to despise the female characters even more.

I honestly thought that they might tie it up at the end there, like in Ep 9 we would have awesome fight scene and conversation and what not and then daredevil comes to help and they both defeat the guy together, but instead we saw her literally break the 4th wall and go the creators room and told some robot named *K.E.V.I.N* what ending she wanted, that was a VERY DISAPPOINTING to me 😢
