I know the title is harsh, I know the content is negative too. But I feel if we don't say what's wrong with the current Phase 4, we may never see an improvement. In this video you won't just find me complaining, I have tried my best to provide answers as to how this should could have been written so much better. Lemme know if you agree with the 5 points I mentioned.

EXACTLY. I hate when that happens... we fans spend a ton of money on Disney+, cinema ticets and toys that are overpriced. And in the end we are the ones paying for those shows, so we're allowed to give them an opinion into what they did wrong and how to improve their content that we fans ARE PAYING FOR. dont like the show but I don't think this is a fair criticism, Jen's point whilst hypocrital was that she had been assualted definitely verbally and physically was at the v least threatened and she felt like she was hunted at work for being a woman nd when drunk nd vulnerable etc etc, she felt like she had to fight to survive cos she was a woman, whilst undeniably Bruce's life is v difficult she's saying he never had to struggle merely because of his gender and he only had to learn how to control his anger after the incident but she always did
@huoshewu

Bruce also made the point that her now being a hulk meant she had to ALWAYS control herself. She has so much more power now that as Jen she could have absolutely flipped out on those cat callers and maybe killed one, but as a hulk the damage she could casually do was exponentially greater. And that's just 'mad', not 'mindlessly enraged'. It was a thing she didn't really understand until the award ceremony.

It's the same in interviews. They admitted they knew how people would react and struck first instead of writing a good show to prove people wrong. Ironically, they did prove people wrong since most were expecting a good show and were excited until the misandry. Even the disjointed episodes and inconsistent character is because Jessica Gao had a writers meeting to talk about all the negative experiences as women in the workplace. And they put that into the show as catharsis for themselves.

Can't really blame you. It was the only way they could save the direction they were going. I lost faith that was going to happen with how consistent they were to present moments for her worldview to be challenged only to not change. Like when all those guys she dated testified for her. And even though I’ve been a victim in plenty of cases, I’m still a flawed individual with my own issues I’m growing from. She-Hulk struggled to present her as anything but a victim or a hero… whenever she acted out, there’s always some justification for it. Until the ending, she went about the whole show with no issues controlling her anger because somehow there’s a trauma competition between her and Bruce. Basically, this whole show was really hard to get into. This guy is spitting facts all over! The way to fight sexism isn't by only empowering women, but by treating each other equally: giving women the same chance as men, but also not being sexist towards men. The problem with movies right now comes from people shoving feminism down our throats instead of EQUAL treatment. I love the final point, Don't create strong female characters, create strong characters that are female. Black Widow, Pepper Potts, and Okoye, are all excellent examples.

It NEVER ceases to stun me how modern Hollywood misses this. I've actually seen shows from the freakin 1950s that do a better job showing gender equal treatment among other stuff (just look up the western series Stories of the Century, the female detectives Frankie Adams and Margaret Jones often have amazing chemistry with their colleague Matt Clark and are genuinely brave as heck). It's NOT that hard to do, I think the writers are just too caught up in their own bitterness and agendas these days to correctly portray people and situations in countless cases.

Except much of the criticism wasn't rooted in content and dialogue that was actually in the show. The best example: Walters was never told what the division was when she was offered the job, and when she was told, her issue was that her colleagues would think the only reason she got the job was because she was a Hulk (rather than being qualified for the job). She didn't actually have an issue with the head of the Superhuman department. Her issue was spelled out to the audience and Canadian Lad reinterpreted it as an issue with the job itself. The comparison to Parker/Stark was also completely inaccurate and a rewrite of the dialogue in Civil War; Parker clearly said "I didn't apply to your fund" before Stark told him he was there to bring him on as Spiderman- there was no indication he made the connection.

This is pretty much exactly what me and a lot of other people had in mind about the show. One other thing I'd like to add is that to me, it felt like the show couldn't decide on a plot. It started as a lawyer story, where the main character is also superhuman. Then, after two thirds of the show was over, the actual plot with the intelligencia started. Then, in the last episode, everything started to come together, but very messily. I know that was the whole point, and why Jen had to go find KEVIN, but dune things in the finale the writers just threw in only to make it feel messier, like Bruce and Titania. Then Jen basically got rid of the culmination of the show and skipped to a happy ending where she can go back to having only a lawyer show with a superhero. I just thought that if you were going to end the plot, just do it, even if it is weird. Just my personal opinion, but hopefully phase 5 is better!

But what i don't like is that sometimes he doesn't explain properly of what he is talking about. And he expects that we all understand of what he is saying. Like he shows a clip of a movie or a show that everyone on the internet is talking about, and after that, doesn't explain why it's that bad and says something like: and that's why the MCU is failing and ....ect he moves on the next topic. Like most of the time he just doesn't even explain briefly the context of the clip, he just moves on. And That's one of the reasons why I, personally don't like his take on that.

I mean, if her life was so difficult, then why would she make out that she couldn't handle the trauma that Bruce faced? It takes a real lack of continuity in your episodes for a scene to both ruin a potential payoff and contradict what is intended to be an important thematic point in a story.

"Write strong characters who are female" - I want to call this the Ripley Principal. Because I have heard that Ellen Ripley was not originally written to be a female character in the original "Alien" movie, but nothing about the role precluded casting Sigourney Weaver.

I completely agree with you on the show man. I really hope that She-Hulk's character gets improved over time because I know that people loved her character in the comics. It also sort of bothers me that what she does in the last episode single-handedly makes her the most powerful character in the MCU if you think about it. But yeah, I completely agree with every word you said in this video. Great work lad!

If someone dislikes you bashing the shortfalls of a show with this amount of context and explanation, they truly see no logic and just "feel" they are being personally offended by you saying something they do not agree with.

"write strong character that are female" this is what I've been saying for years! write a good character that happens to be female. The audience doesn't like the male characters because they're male, they like them because they're good written characters.

Canadian Lad, I think this is one of the best of your videos! There's nothing wrong with being harsh and emotional when reacting to the show, as long as arguments and points are reasonable. In fact, I love when you get more emotional, it sounds more enthusiastic in a way. Thanks for the content, lad!

LOL no. A flashback was definitely needed to get a better understanding for the character. Jessica Jones suffered WAY MORE than She-Hulk has and still managed to get flashbacks. You relate and understand Jessica more BECAUSE the series constantly shows and reminds you of the horrible things that were done to her by Kilgrave.

I think Cheetah in Wonder Woman 2 is a good example of a weak neglected but relatable character. She is often ignored, harassed and no one really takes her seriously because she's not attractive. She gets powerful and it goes to her head.

I think Jen is never meant to be a "strong female characters". Your summarization from 4:07 to 4:15 is on point, Jen “believes” she is good at controlling her emotion because she has suffered in society, but in reality, her “back story” is not that much different than everyone else in the modern society. Jen is supposed to represents a normal civilian, not a heroic protagonist. Throughout the show, Jen always acts like a very “real person” to me. She would use her powers to help people sometimes but will not go as far as sacrificing everything to save the world. Just like most people in the real world don’t mind making some donation once in a while but will not straight up quit our jobs, join some NGOs and dedicate our whole life to help people.

I really like this observation. It's well founded and unique amongt the She-Hulk discussion of which I have been immersed in since before the show aired it's first episode. I don't really care for how much they play up this aspect of Jen in the show but I really liked reading your comment. It was a new perspective.

@@pavan_kumar556 Agreed. When watching this video something finally occurred to me. Something I had noticed and pointed out in other areas of the show but only noticed now how it was glaringly obvious from the first episode. Jen and Bruce's opinions on being a Hulk are somewhat flipped from the comics. Bruce tries to get Jen to embrace her Hulkness while she just wants it gone. This is bad enough because you lose Jen's core but then the show tries to start her arc there while misunderstanding how she should progress. So Jen starts out not caring for the changes She Hulk brings to her life then she comes to like some perks then she accepts it as a part of herself but doesn't adore it and prefer it to being Jen. So her end point isn't where Jen usually is in the comics its actually closer to what you'd expect from a positive arc for Bruce and mirrors his MCU version minus all the monster related freakouts and being hunted by the military. She's a less developed version of Hulk in the MCU and it's sad.

Probably because She-Hulk is that much of a mess, kind of thing. Especially that she is a lawyer who apparently hates on men and goes through days as liberated as she can be. *sips coffee*
