Marvel has a terrible track record with hiring creative leaders who actively don't give a fuck about Marvel. Remember when Cate Shortland was told not to worry about action scenes for Black Widow? Remember when Taika Waititi completely disregarded the MCU canon TWICE and laughed about not finishing VFX shots in interviews? It's awful.

@@TDhexada When I first heard that Feige refused to appear in place of the AI in the finale, I (very shallow-mindedly, admittedly) thought that it was a disappointment because that would’ve been hilarious. Then I thought about the implications of an entire hired creative team shitting on his empire and deliberately breaking canon rules that will forever diminish the impact of future events* and I just felt sorry for him. It doesn’t excuse any of the other aforementioned questionable choices, but the more I think about it, the more I realize how much of this show was intended to break the MCU. * - Going meta is great. Breaking the fourth wall is a great tool, as seen in Deadpool. But Deadpool still has to adhere to the rules of his universe. He comments on the writing, but never actively interferes with the making of the narrative. She Hulk deliberately fucks with the course of the story and every single future dumb decision by any character will now be made even dumber by asking the question “Why did Jen not just tell the writers to do this?” Any future plot convenience, plothole or out-of-character action is now made even dumber because they have a sentient fail-safe written in to the MCU. She Hulk genuinely broke the MCU.

What kills me is the actresses's comments about how they created the show knowing people "wouldn't accept a female superhero" even though there have been several well received female super hero shows. And every single one has better audience scores than She-Hulk. I hate that the writers of the show wasted the incredible talent available in the cast on writing the show more for people they anticipated hating it than for an audience that already likes and is invested in the character. I still had fun watching She-Hulk, but it could have easily been as groundbreaking and genre redefining as Jessica Jones if it hadn't been more interested in blowing raspberries at the haters it went out of its way to feed.

They didn't have the talent to make an awesome show. And instead of outsourcing some of the content. (You know they had the budget to do it too). He said the movies are watchable even without the shows, so I began asking: what grand plot progression is there in each show? How much of a gap would he have from these shows? In She-Hulk, the answer is barely anything. You get introduced to Jen and in the end to Banner's son. That's about it. Emil Blonsky is the best example of this. You mentioned Shang Chi reintroducing him. We last saw him in that fighting club in China with Wong. At the end of She-Hulk, where is he? In that fighting club in China with Wong. He was imprisoned at the beginning of the show, he got released, and he got imprisoned again in the end. Every plot thing just did a full rotation and got back to where it started. If you delete She-Hulk, it has essentially 0 effect on the MCU.

Ryan’s right. People throw damning terms around way too much these days without justification. Couple of Examples: The Falcon and the Winter Soldier: I’ve read about some people who legitimately thought John Walker embodied white supremacy when nothing about his character supported that. The Boys: Eric Kripke threw around the term “toxic masculinity” in just about every interview he gave for Season 3 when in reality, his created characters’ issues, at least in Hughie and Butcher’s case, seem to go far deeper than that. Hughie’s season 3 storyline I think completely did a 180 on his character and disregarded the fact that he had legitimate trauma and PTSD from his girlfriend getting killed in the blink of an eye in front of him. For Butcher, Kripke chalked up him pushing Ryan away as toxic masculinity when episode seven’s trip inside his brain revealed that he has a very deep-rooted fear that people who love him end up dying because of him.

Here's why I hate the show; Bruce: OK, Jen these power come with a lot of responsibility, if you mess up once everyone will turn on you- Jen: blah blah blah Bruce I don't need you to mansplain to me about super powers I got this *Jen messes up and everyone turns on her* Jen: I would rather break the show and change the ending than admit Bruce was right. YOU'RE WELCOME LADIES!

I'm not sure I get the criticism about Bruce Banner also having gone through traumatic things? the point is that Bruce had to struggle because he was an angry dude with emotional problems and then became a Hulk and had to deal with all of it. Whereas she was became a Hulk while being much, much better with emotional shit and anger because of her life experiences. The whole point, which she says explicitly, is that she has been in fight or flight daily since childhood, and learn to handle it long time ago

As someone with two X chromosomes and breasts, who is apparently the "female target audience" for shows like modern _She-Hulk: Attorney at Law,_ not only did the show itself bore me to death (it was basically a sitcom), I _viscerally hated_ the character of Jennifer Walters/She-Hulk in this... both versions of her. The other characters annoyed me as well, as everyone was incompetent and stupid, but good god, _she_ was a blatant textbook wish-fulfillment Mary-Sue character that _everything_ revolves around, who is instantly better at everything Hulk than actual Bruce Banner for no logical reason, and who _literally_ could change reality by whining about it. She didn't even "break the 4th wall" in the way Deadpool does (as Deadpool still stays Deadpool inside the fictional multiverse), she literally smashed through the multiverse to... walk onto the set of the show to bitch at the script writers to rewrite the ending? That's "meta" squared. But even that cheap plot trick at the end sunk like a lead balloon. The script writers clearly thought they were being super-smart and edgy but only showed they couldn't come up with as satisfying ending so they threw crap at the wall like a monkey hoping it would stick. The ending of Season 1 lacked even internal logic: because if She-Hulk walks into the real world onto a film set where the show is being filmed and where _everyone else_ is simply an actor... then why is _she_ still the green-skinned 8 foot tall She-Hulk? Why is she not her actress Tatiana Maslany? The entire MCU is now a meaningless joke, congratulations! Man, if only Tony Stark had been smart enough to know he could have rewritten the ending of _Endgame_ by bitching about Thanos instead of heroically sacrificing himself to save the universe and die a horrific death! The main ingredient of writing a good story and convincing characters as an author is to take fictional characters and the world they live in _seriously._ The late great Terry Pratchett knew this. The writers of the animated Fantasy show _Arcane_ know this. The writers of _She-Hulk_ clearly don't; instead they showed utter disgain and boredom for the material. They mistreated the male characters by mocking them; yet the female characters don't work as "female empowerment" icons either, because She-Hulk and her lady friends plus the female villain are cringe-worthy stereotypical Sitcom characters. Jennifer Walters/She-Hulk is _neither_ a heroic Superhero (because the writers decided that's "boring") nor is she a competent laywer. Compare her show's season 1 to _another_ Marvel show about a character who is both a lawyer and a (disabled) Superhero: Daredevil. Jennifer Walters' entire character arc is being a neurotic bachelorette obsessed with finding men and stumbling into embarrassing situations and being stalked on the Internet and finding herself, as well as woman-splaining to Bruce Banner how hard she has it in her affluent upper middle class urban neighborhood. My god. It's basically a copy of _Sex and the City!_ And after seeing/reading interviews of the all-female script writers and director and their utterly hypocritical, self-congratulatory, sexist, simplex mindset, it became clear to me they have their heads stuck so firmly up their own asses they're unable of self-reflection. THey're so busy to project the image of the modern urban hipster, where everything they do and say must be an ironically detached, woke, pop culture reference, they are unable to write authentic sounding dialogue or plots.

There is a show on Hulu called dollface. it kind of does what I think She hulk said it was doing. Showed a 30 something being single, dealing with friends and men and broke the fourth wall. Maybe they should have gotten THAT writer to do this show. I dont see how it could have been worse.

Yeah, the fact that the showrunners admitted openly that they wrote this show with EVERY intention of trolling she-Hulk fans while having a gloriously smug and satisfied smile on her face is just proof that Marvel EFFED UP when they hired her. And I hope she was fired instantly after her admitting this. If not, then it's likely she was fired as a result of Fiege's clean up at Marvel studios; IF that even true. I personally do not believe it's true that Marvel fired and removed everyone on the writers staff that can be considered activists. I think Guardians 3 and Deadpool and wolverine are anomalies within the hierarchy of the social woke infrastructure of Disney-Marvel I honestly believe that Iger would NEVER allow Feige to clean house in the way it's been claimed. Not if the Parent company is STILL doubling down and NOT doing the same.

The problem is that the writers *wanted* to piss off the audience, but then got pissed of AT the audience for *getting* pissed off. Like if I just stand there and keep slapping you in the face going, "Whatcha gonna do about it, huh?" I don't get to be indignant about it when you haul off and hit me. You can EITHER intentionally piss people, OR be upset that they're pissed off. You don't get both.

It had a very average 80s sitcom vibe really. It was amusing, light, didn't take itself too seriously. Very middle of the road and that's where I sit with it, didn't love it, didn't hate it. Not something I'll watch repeatedly but enjoyed it the first time around. I also believe, given the hints about how serious Phase 5 is supposed to be (Scott Lang dying possibly...) maybe She Hulk was meant to be tongue and cheek...

I love how u try to reach pit everyone but I should remind u that most of the people that got mad at she hulk making fun of certain people that grew up bullying other people and now don't have the emotional maturity of processing criticism and always git their way. On the other hand people like me that grew up being bullied or having to navigate life with very few choices, can handle criticism and change much easier. I didn't like she hulk but it had its moments but I will not throw a tantrum just because she made fun of me. Sometimes u can't please everyone and we end up pleasing no one when we try to please everyone. Much love, and keep reacting hard ❤️

I waited 15 years for She-Hulk to show up. Then they created a terrible show "on purpose". And if you critique their terrible show then they just claim you're part of the toxic fan base. Toxic fan base? How about we talk about toxic writers. Fans pay money for Disney to develop projects of characters they have loved for 40 years, if any group of people should be allowed to get pissed about a film/show it should be that crowd.... you know... the people who kept Marvel in business when they almost went bankrupt in the 90's. So to now have writers that openly tell fans they don't like whatever IP they are being paid to create, and that they also don't like any fans who are upset with them ruining the content, is an insult to the fans who have been loyal the past 40 years. On top of that there were many people who went into She-Hulk NOT as a toxic internet troll, many of us wanted an awesome She-Hulk to join the MCU. But after 3 episodes of nothing we started to get bored, by 5 episodes we were bitter, and by the finale we were just ready for it all to be over. The writers didn't care that they weren't giving the rest of us a decent show to watch, they just wanted to make sure to piss of "internet trolls".
@EskChan192 жыл бұрын
Pretty much this. There's so many writers who think that "subverting expectations" makes them clever writing, when the fact of the matter is that most people don't want their expectations "subverted". Most people just want a good, enjoyable show. Good, likeable characters who aren't snotty, uppity assholes, good scenes with a good plot to follow. People don't watch Star Wars to see grumpy old Luke Sywalker, people don't watch He-Man to have 1 episode of He-Man and 20 episodes of everyone else, people don't watch Marvel for clever writing. And that doesn't make the people "entitled" either. There's nothing entitled about getting what you ordered. People aren't entitled to have the films made they want to watch. But if the studios don't make these movies, they're not entitled to peoples money either. If I go to a restaurant, order a steak, pay a steak, then get a single fry and a chef who goes "Hah! See you didn't expect that did you? I totally subverted your expectations, I'm such a great cook aren't I? Now pay for the steak you didn't get and tell everyone what a badass chef I am to give you not what you ordered but what I decided you get instead!" then I won't pay that restaurant and I definitely won't go there again. That's not entitlement, that's business.

The problem? There is nothing redeeming about SheHulk. It doesnt see the humanity in the villains, and Shehulk doesnt really doesnt save anyone of her own accord... like a marvel hero should. Lastly, the writers put themselves in the show and used Jen as thier medium to criticize the MCU and male fans in very generalized and unnuanced terms. This alienated some fans who are already on board with the writers feelings and felt they were being overly preached at. If they focused on Jen saving people, being a real hero, like Daredevil this wouldnt be an issue. This was the first marvel show that felt like the writers were not in the right room. To the people that loved it, im happy for you, but the people that didnt like it have a right to feel that way and not be attacked as trolls or sexist incels.

I was a she-hulk "defender" for a while because I felt like people were criticising the show for no real reason. Yes, it has a LOT of flaws, but most of the "She Hulk sucks" videos on youtube don't focus on the actual flaws, but just the superficial stuff like how its "too feminist" or "too woke". but yeah, after leaving it alone for a while I do see some big issues with the production of the show. I do agree that the writers were way too confident with their idea to the point they made some of the show bad on purpose JUST for the final episode twist. even though I agree we should call out and shame misogynist assholes, there was always this tinge of vitriol in the writing. even as someone who enjoyed the show, I have to say it is Mid, it's the definition of mid, there's some good shit and there's some bad shit. but knowing about some of the things Jessica Gao said puts this really bad taste in my mouth... essentially it just felt like this whole show was a thinly vailed rant on twitter that somehow got picked up by a studio. the rant might come from the right place, a place of genuine fear and frustration but that's not how a show should work. Use a good story to push a message, don't use a message to ruin a good story.
@EskChan192 жыл бұрын
The thing about the "woke" writing is that it just auto assumes that all men are mysoginists and that the only reason you could ever dislike the main character is because you are a mysoginist. And that's simply not the case. And THAT is what annoys people. Because when you say "we need to shame misogynist assholes" you mean anyone and everyone who doesn't like the main character because she's female, therefore disliking her is sexist. But that's BS. I won't deny that there's probably a low three digit number of actual sexists who hate any and all female representation but the vast majority of "misogynist assholes" is people who are tired of tropey, badly written, badly acted, characters who get a pass because they're "strong female characters", therefore automatically immune to criticism. Pretty much everyone says that there's a lot of good female characters in media. Just not in the super woke stories because the majority of these characters are unlikeable, uppity, snotty Mary Sues. And noone likes Mary Sues, regardless of gender. The fun of a story is seing a character struggle and overcome the obstacles. If there's never any obstacles and the character just enjoys rubbing it in how much better they are than anyone else, that's not a good character. That's an asshole.

I think it's kinda weird sometimes how Marvel handles feminism, you can clearly see that it's on the checklist "gotta have one moment for the views", but they're so wildly different. Like in infinity war "she's not alone" fucking cool moment. And then in endgame... "She's got help" completely fabricated and cringe. You end up asking yourself "how the fuck did ALL female heroes end up in that one spot for a cool shot" instead of "those heroes are so cool"
