Sadly I’ve noticed with the wella toners, the ones you get at sally, say to use 20vol on instructions. You don’t have to use 20 vol at all. They have a range of colors in their toner line.I don’t know why they don’t pick the correct toner. It’s frustrating seeing the videos of people never getting their hair light enough. It’s like they don’t want to put the work into it but expect a miracle with t18. HB, you’re doing Gods work educating the masses. You’re so kind and funny. Blessings to you and your lovely family. On Sally's website, it says to use 10 for same depth or 20 for 1-2 levels of lift, but of course on the box it just says 20 🙄 It actually says to pre-lighten your hair to desired level and then use 20!
@lastlyfirstofall28332 жыл бұрын
@@kathleen1697 it’s crazy isn’t it. The desired level kills me! It’s so deceptive!! Back in the day clairol had this line called born blond, after bleaching , you’d put their toning solution on afterwards. The toner had no peroxide or ammonia. You just plopped it on your hair. It was messy and had a lot of either purple, green or blue in the solution that would stain your skin but gave excellent results on the hair. They could make a fortune bringing the toning solutions back. They were big 8-16 oz bottles and you had enough to tone several bleaching. That was the 80s though. 😁😁😁 Well is making a fortune on t18 alone!

The worse part is that they *think* they know what they're talking about. My cousin has been a hairdresser for over 30 years. He's very knowledgeable and even participated in hair competitions. He sent me to Sally's to look for several items, I asked for help and was asked what was being done. When I explained, the employee said: "Oh, that's all wrong and you'll need these items instead." I ended up having to look for the items myself because they were positive that what my cousin has requested was wrong...
@AbV381a2 жыл бұрын
This is a two sided issue, the first is that to train Sally’s workers on the products and what they do they would also have to understand how the products work and that’s basically getting into being a licensed professional. That is a lot of training but also you have to renew that license. I’ve never met a person that went through all of beauty school to be like- I want to work for little pay at Sally’s. The other problem is people can have the correct info and still not use it. I can’t tell you how many people I’ve seen on hair fails videos say something like “my hair is supposed to be lighter than this and I’m going to put this toner/color on anyway”. As an extra/third note they have things like T-18, wella calls it a permanent toner. That is not a thing, that’s just a permanent color for blondes and is meant to be used with 20 vol per directions BUT it calls itself a toner so people or employees have the wrong idea of what it is and what it does and who can use it.

The shop is not my property and I am just a saleswoman, but everything I know I learned on my own because we have no training from the owners, however being passionate since always, I would never have given an oxygen to 20 volumes because the lightening action of oxygen works in any case lightening the hair regardless of the tone of product to which it is mixed. I don't have a high salary so while selling professional hair dyes, sometimes I'm forced to take box dyes. Toning hair is possible, even just using syoss oleo in tone to tone method. I had a warm color (level 8 at the roots and 9 very golden on the length) and I cool it down with the shade 8.05 is a beige color and it turn out amazing. I've been using box dye for 50 years, with the occasional salon highlights, and watching KZbin videos, including yours, inspired me to try bleach/tone. I bought my Wella from Amazon and it was packaged with 10 Vol - which is why I bought it. The instructions for the toner; however, say 20 Vol. If you're going to write to Sally's, write to Wella, too. I didn't use T18 because I didn't want ashy. I used T28 and am pretty satisfied.
@SoCalRegisteredNurse2 жыл бұрын
I bleached my hair in areas I wanted highlights. I got it to a level 9 (I checked every 10 minutes and tested the integrity of my hair) and used T18 to tone and it came out great. I’ve been going to the salon for over 20 years religiously and I’ve seen and watched what they do and I ask a lot of questions. It didn’t give me an ashy color, it gave me a light blonde natural color. I use good products on my hair to begin with (Olaplex and Kerastase, which I love), so maybe that helped. I also did a strand test first. Timing and watching is everything. It may say “leave on for 20 minutes” but you may only need 10. My 83 y/o mother bleached her own hair platinum. She used a protein filler first 🤷🏼♀️, bleach only the roots, and used born blonde toner. I don’t think they make that anymore but it worked for her.

It is ultimately the responsibility of the consumer to do their research, which could be completed in all of 10 minutes, before purchasing or applying anything. Wella toners are good for brightening and toning highlights, but you have to only apply it to highlighted areas of your hair. Elle bangs has a good tutorial on this. I love T-18 but Wella has professional versions of the same exact kind and it lasts longer! Otherwise it only will last 3 washes (Wella doesnt last long at all but it is the only toner that makes everyone stop me and ask what I use) They use volume 7 I believe. I've done many many experiments doing each side a different way. My hair is icy silver with a touch of lilac in certain light. I am naturally just under level 6. I tone (some understand it better when you say a gloss) my hair after bleaching my roots. I use T-18 4 cap fulls of 050 which makes it more silver/grey. If I don't leave my bleach on long enough I will use 20 volume so that it lifts it more as it tones. Other times I use 5 volume with a touch of Olaplex. Upkeep I will use the Silver Clenditioner as a mask every 3 washes and use purple conditioner with a very moisturizing shampoo. My hair is a inch under my bust and those know, one mess up can ruin all that hardwork and money you put into your hair. *Y'all do NOT be afraid to use a level or two down from T-18. You WILL get results closer yo what you actually want.

I live in a rural area now so no cosmoprof. The clerk recommended t18 and I was a little confused when I read the directions and it said to use 20 vol developer..they only carres 10 in the wella brand anyways so thats what i got. Ok question, I have been with you since you were about 30,000 followers and faithfully watching you since. The ? Is what do you do about coloring about 7-10 inches of New growth but Grey hair? Do you repigment like with blond hair? If so with what coloring when going back to red. Can you please do a video on coloring Grey hair? Please. Hi from Canada 🇨🇦
@SarahAnneStuff2 жыл бұрын
Grey hair can be a little tricky. The cuticle is more tightly packed on grey hair, and grey hair tends to want to grab onto warm tones. Some stylists do re-pigment the hair. Others make their formula to have multiple tones. How they determine to fill your hair is determined by the end result you are going for. If you want a more red-based brown, sometimes it's not necessary to re-pigment, depending on the shade of brown, due to the grey hair grabbing the warm tones. If it is a really ashy tone, they might have to add additional red so that the hair doesn't grab green (this is not likely to happen to grey hair, though). Most natural shades will do fine on grey hair since it grabs differently than bleached hair, but if there is a very specific color a person is wanting on their hair, it may require extra steps (colors) to get there. Like, for my hair, I am mostly grey on top, but I only ever use a demi-permanent color. I get a level 3 neutral brown, and for my greys, it shows up as a level 5 with some reddish tones - which matches my natural hair perfectly and gives a soft dimensional look (so it's not truly full coverage like a permanent color would be). I have never used an "ash" shade on my greys because the color will likely fall flat and won't have the warmer tones I'm looking for, but it might work well for someone else. Most stylists don't do like I do using demi-permanent. Most grey coverage clients want the solid results from a permanent color. Sorry for such a long response. I hope it made sense.
@SarahAnneStuff2 жыл бұрын
Also I should add - because I use a demi-permanent on my grey hair, I do have to leave it on a full 45 minutes under heat, then allow it to cool. I do this because I'm picky about the health of my hair and don't want to use a permanent color, but for most people with grey hair, they do want the permanent coverage.

Yes, you should call Sally's. Because the toner she is using, asked for 20 volumes to be used. So it could be not only Sally's fault, but it could also be the brand of toner she's using that s is for 20 volumes. Because that is way too high.

I've been in a position where I had only had 20 or 30 vol and needed to tone or just needed a lower developer...but all you have to do is dilute the 20vol with water in equal parts..and...voila..no excuse for using a higher volume than you need 🙃😮

Wow, cool. I will try this to bring 10vol down

We don't have Sally"s in the UK, but from all these videos they seem to give the wrong advice, and are only interested in selling products and making profit, so I would love to see you get in touch with them as a professional 👍😀

What's super fun are the color corrections I get from DIY-ers that get in over their heads, and they take 2-3 sessions and months of treatments to get compmetely fixed.

Purple shampoo is great to maintain, or to give yourself a light violet pastelle look on very, very light hair (when left longer). It's not a magical potion. Currently I have light Gray hair, and I mixed some purple pigments with my favourite conditioner, and use it twice a week - it prolonged the toner's effect by two weeks, so far, and counting.

My hair is very dark brown, almost black, and a few years ago I wanted to bleach my hair so I could turn it pastel colors. Over the course of half a year, I carefully bleached it all the way to the point where it was platinum blonde/white. THEN I used the T18 toner. You CANNOT use that toner if your hair is not platinum blonde/white. I figured all this out just but researching everything before I started the entire process. So many people just watch one of two videos with incorrect information and just go ahead with doing their hair and failing. Just do your research!

Yes please send an email to Sally's I had a friend do the exact thing knowing that I do hair and I had to fix it for her 🤦 And I told her to never do that again!!!! Then we went to Sally's and I'm like this is the only toner they have 🤦 there are other demis are reds or blacks ☠️👀🤦 they don't have an array of blondes to help tone that and just people who don't do hair just don't understand the science behind the color wheel and stuff 🥺

Sallys doesn't sell developer lower than 10. I really wished they did! I've noticed my hair slightly lifts using a 10 vol, and it's frustrating!

Yes, email Sally's. It really disturbs you that the staff doesn't help customers with their buying the correct products. It's a training problem. How hard is it to ask a customer at the checkout if they plan on mixing 20, 30, 40 or 50 volume with the other products in their baskets, in this case, toner? Then the staff telling said customer what could happen with the wrong volume and recommend the right volume?
@carolinegrova87072 жыл бұрын
I don't think contacting Sally's will have any effect: the more mistakes we make, the more products we buy to fix our mistakes. If we get it right the first time, Sally's loses money.

My car is very dirty, so I went out and purchased some Quek Blue, some 40 volume, some T-18, and some purple shampoo, let's see how it can change my old car into a brand new pickup truck!

Ok, so... the instructions say to use with 20 vol but.. what is a permanent toner anyway? It's confusing. Thanks for the video❣

Aargh!!! T18 🤦🏽♀️ It’s great now you can buy toning developers as most people don’t understand they’re using the wrong one (should be 10 vol preferably even less) when they use the same bottle as for bleaching 👏 Anything above 10 volume is lifting not toning- do your homework and watch HB 😃
