If you’ve ever had a NG tube put in for a reasons other than diet, you would never get this. This is starvation, she needs to change her life style rather than cheat the system for 10 days. 10 lbs is not worth it if your gonna gain 60 back.

@@goodra999 Refeeding is an awful thing, and as long as your hospital use(s/d) it as a tool to help those who need it, it’s alright. Someone who chose to get a tube to loose weight (unless they had other risks involved in their health) it’s not worth it

For those of you interested: I recently had an NG Tube for almost 3 weeks after open esophagus surgery due to a rare condition called Zenker's Diverticulum (ZD). Feeding tubes are not nearly as bad and scary as perceived. ZD is where a growth or "pouch" protrudes from the wall of the esophagus blocking the pathway. Mine was larger than a golfball, measuring over 5cm or more than 2.0" across obstructing the esophagus to the point where water could barely be swallowed. My involuntary weight loss was over 40 lbs from 180 to 136 as swallowing food became impossible along with constant choking. The tube was just removed two days ago so I'm still on a liquid diet for a few more days until I can progress to soft foods and then on to particulates before resuming a normal diet in another week or so. I had to consume 12-14 meal replacement shakes a day just to maintain a healthy diet which takes a lot of time each day to pump in... because it's only 2 ounces at a time. The one huge CAUTION: Be very careful with pumping meds that are not water soluble as even when they are crushed up into a fine powder as they will clog up the feeding tube. I'm very curious why this Dr. did not use an X-ray to confirm the correct location of the tube in the stomach which is a standard practice in hospitals. -----

I had a NG tube when I was very young I still remember the pain it gave me when it went down my throat I couldn’t breathe I was choking. I used it cuz I wasn’t eating. You get so hungry that you force yourself too eat. Luckily it’s gone thank god.

All that for 16 pounds??? if you just change your diet and do light exercise you’d lose that much and eventually more if you continue. No need to blow thousands of dollars and get an NG tube. That is so bizarre to me. Any lasting change requires effort and consistency. And best part of all it’s free.

It depends on your issue causing you to not eat. If you have a problem with your stomach and or chronic illness where you cant keep food down or your stomach cant tolate food then you can go to a doctor as soon as possible to get help. The help may not be in a form of an ng tube becasuse those are last restort. If you have an restrive eating disorder, the same goes for that too, get help as SOON AS POSSIBLE, it only gets worse and if you get very physicallly sick and have health ussues a feeding tube will be used as a last restort to save your life. hope you are well

So I am curious what the failure rate for this is vs the failure rate for gastric surgery.If the rates are similar would this not be a safer method? Considering the surgery has much higher risks of infection and other complications to include death on the operating table? Just wish they had actually listed the actual failure rates for both procedures considering you are under full general anesthesia for a gastric sleeve and that is not necessary for the NG... Just curious what the real numbers are here.

Well this isn’t really ok! I used to have a feeding tube since I was a baby, it’s wasn’t easy for me to handle because of the pain and tired of the noise with a feeding pump sometimes. sadly some people cant loose weight easily. i had a strict diet of 1500 and 2 hours of exercise on doctors orders and gained 20 pounds. im not allowed to fast either and i HAVE to eat 3 times a day if i dont want to eat breakfast i have to drink a protein shake to get the needed protein and cals in
