Fun fact, Stacy apparently kept referring to antifreeze as "antifree" in her statement to the police, and that's one of the reasons they knew she was guilty because that's exactly how it was spelled in the suicide note.

@@sydneymerica9957 Omg was it Forensic Files?! I remember that episode! So chilling
@newguy902 жыл бұрын
The episode with the antifreeze was on a Forensic Files back in the late 90s. A doctor slowly poisoned his wife with antifreeze over several months. The wife became suspicious that her husband was poisoning her, so she secretly had a toxicology test performed on herself in another county. If she died, she wanted the hospital to send a copy to law enforcement. Eventually, the wife did die and her husband had her body cremated without an autopsy. The test came back too late to save her life, but the hospital did send a copy to law enforcement per her instructions. One of the big deals the episode made about antifreeze other than its sweet taste was that it would remain undetected during a regular autopsy.
@lennychorn1472 жыл бұрын
Antifreeze shows up in the blood and urine, as visible crystals. So you're mistaken on the part that it isn't detectable during a standard autopsy. Arsenic is the one that needs to be specifically tested for.

@@lennychorn147 I admit, I might be misremembering it. They did mention potassium crystals in the heart. I believe they said the doctor was giving it in low doses over a long period of time and had waited several weeks between each dose. The chemicals and the crystals would be excreted from the body, but the damage was still there. The only long term evidence it had been there would be higher than normal potassium levels. He was trying to make the poisoning look like a regular medical condition that another doctor would mistake as something else. The only reason the toxicologists caught it was because the wife sent an unwashed cup to the toxicology lab (I misremembered, she didn't test herself at a hospital, she had a cup tested at a private toxicology lab.)

Her trying to kill Ashley really, *really* sets me off. Where is the justification?? Trying to kill and blame the daughter that you fought to keep...I completely believe she would have killed her father, too. She's such an idiot. She's deeply evil but also disgustingly stupid, and that's such a terrible mix. I'm glad you're channel is doing so well and you've released your podcast!! Oh, she was so dumb. Did she really think she'd be able to get away with killing her daughter? She already knows the cops are onto her. If her daughter ends up dead, of course the cops are going to do an autopsy. That's so suspicious, and then they're going to realize that she died in the same way her father died, and they're going to have even more proof that the mother lied and forged this suicide note.

This is from my hometown. If anyone wants an update : Her daughter now lives down the street from my mom and right next door to my best friend. she has children of her own and seems to be living a fairly normal happy life now a days. My friend has even seen DA Fitzpatrick visiting her and her family on more than one occasion. Fitzpatrick is a legend around here, another more current case where he really let his savage skills show is the case of Leslie Nuelander. Her husband Dr. Nuelander (who also has ties to my family 🙄 🤦🏻♀️) has been convicted twice now for her murder. He staged it like an accident in the shower and almost got away with it! With a disputed 911 call, a daughter stuck in the middle, jury misconduct, John Gottis lawyer, an overturning of the conviction. It’s a roller coaster of a case! Dateline has an episode on it (the doctors daughter) as well as Dr.Grande and that chapter.

Actually alcohol can prevent antifreeze from causing serious damage. I remember reading about how the body will prefer to uptake the alcohol because they're processed in a similar way. Antifreeze is sweet, so I guess it might be difficult to recognize it in an alcoholic drink, but it kind of cancels out the effects, which might be why she resorted to using rat poison. It's easy to buy either of those products. She just wasn't very smart.
@marinaborgert2 жыл бұрын
It will not cancel, it will only slow down the processing of antifreeze. There was a recent case in Brazil where an artisanal brewery had a batch contaminated with antifreeze and several people were affected, some even died. The survivors have drastic, life lasting consequences on their health.
@AN-dr5rc2 жыл бұрын
They teach that in basic first aid training for driving licence here in Europe - if a person is poisoned by antifreeze, you should give them 40% alcoholic drink, like 1/4 a cup of schnapps every 1 hour, until ambulance arrives

Sear as in 'searing a steak'. 'Ah - Queues' is like Accuse (as in 'accuse someone of a crime') but pretend the 'Cuse' in accuse is simultaneously more soft, flowey, and faster than expected, sort of like you're saying 'Queues' (as in 'they're waiting in the queues').

Adding to that, jumping to a backstory is fine but when it runs long enough it makes it hard to follow and can create confusion. I had to go back and rewatch the first part just to remember who David is and why his detailed backstory is a part of this before getting into the actual crime portion. That being said I always love content from you, your tone and enthusiasm shows through and makes the story even more exciting.
