Waleska is the first one to ever figure out the difference in technique of Indian classical singing and western singing, atleast on KZbin, i have never heard anyone talk about the difference in larynx movement so it shows how much research she has done. It used to really irritate me when i would see western vocal coaches react to indian singers and say "oh he is elevating his head, facing upwards while singing higher notes and that's a wrong technique that is unsafe". And I always think that that's according to their style of singing and they don't even bother to look into why their logic doesn't fit with the way Indian classical is sung because the technique is totally different.

The idea of "larynx movement" doesn't even EXIST in Indian classical training. There is so much training in "surface" mechanics that Western singing focuses on because the foundation of a strong vocal tract isn't built into the singer from an early age, which ALL Indian classical training does, no matter the gharana. It's always funny to me to see Western musicians react to Indian vocalists and not realize that the way they themselves were trained isn't the only way to do it.

It is an ancient Indian tradition and honour to touch the feet of all your elders (also teachers, gurus, masters) to seek their blessings and as a mark of utter most respect (for their knowledge, experience, wisdom, craft) and also fold or join your hands in greetings, for blessings among others on various occasions. Nitin Kumar was one of the runner ups of Indian Idol 2018 Season 10. This song face-off was not the finals. The original song Akhiyan Udeek Diyan is sung by one of a kind, the late Pakistani legend Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan. The actor is Arjun Kapoor and actress is Parineeti Chopra (cousin of Priyanka Chopra), they were guests to promote their film Namaste England. They were blown away by the singing prowress of both Salman Ali and Nitin Kumar performance and hence touched their feet out of respect.

Just to let you know that this bit is not meant to be competitive. It is called 'jugalbandi' and it's more like a friendly game of trying to match each other's notes while still trying to do something different. so it's not exactly 2 singers trying to out-sing each other but trying to give their unique contributions in an impromptu collaborative piece while ensuring that it remains fluent and cohesive.

There is no "head" or "chest" voice in Indian classical singing. There is simply the "voice" , and the more you work, the longer you can stretch out your natural range. So Indian singers that DO sing falsettos often can go even farther than pretty much any Western singer ever can, and sing more powerfully for longer and with much more reliability ON COMMAND. So there's no weirdness when you have to sing in the cold, which counterintuitively is easier for Indian singers than for Western singers. Beyonce and Adele are the only Western trained singers that even come close to matching the power of Indian classical training.

Just for info.... This is INDIAN IDOL contest and the three Judges are Vishal (whom you saw singing a western cover in earlier episode), Neha Kakkar and Anu Malik (Armaan Malik's uncle). The pair sitting with other contestants were Arjun Kapoor and Pariniti Chopra (related to Priyanka Chopra Jonas). Generally actors n actresses make appearance in reality shows ahead of release of their movies (promotional event) and spend some time watching contestants peform.

I just wanted to say I really love these videos guys. The passion and love for music are palpable. I started watching you guys as an EXOL and was so excited to see you guys reacting to Bollywood/Hindi music and everything else really Lol. It has been so interesting to hear your opinions and I have been simultaneously learning so much. I grew up singing Hindi songs because we used to always watch Bollywood films in our house. So I realised later when singing in different languages and especially when singing western music that I sounded weird/not right (or it was more difficult to do so).
