When I was 17 years old I worked up the courage to ask my crush of 2 years to my senior prom. She excitedly said yes and I was on top of the world. She would bring it up all the time and seemed happy. After a night of hanging out with my friends at a local spring festival I heard she was with another guy. I shrugged it off and kept my hopes high. As it got closer to the night she started returning my text slower and would try to change the topic when I would ask her about prom related shit. My parents were both excited because it was there oldest kids first prom so I played along even tho I was hurting. We took pictures, walked in together, and laughed with some friends, and the night was going ok. But she was constantly looking at her phone and wouldn't make eye contact. When time for the first dance came she told me she was sorry she couldn't do this and that her mom was outside and left me on that dancefloor alone. Leaving me to explain to my friends what happened. I cried driving home alone that night and even as an almost 21 year old man it still stings a little. Since then though I've met some amazing girls and had some even more amazing experiences and life moved on. If you're reading this upset or alone know that life moves on man. Just keep going ✌

In high school prom, I remember going to hang out with everyone else since my boyfriend at the time had to stay at home with his father since there were some family issues needed to be resolved. I brought my DS Lite to the prom in case I didn't find anyone who wasn't a couple who wanted to hang out with. When the slow dance came around, all of the couples went towards the front to slowly move like trees in the wind above the paced changing lights. I stood up from the tables and popped in my cartridge of Mario Kart DS to slow danced while racing in Yoshi Falls. The first lap was fun and I actually was giving myself a pat on the back for thinking of doing it. But as I got towards the end and looked with my peripheral vision to see how these couples were holding each other and swaying to the song. The feeling of knowing I might never slow dance with him (since this was senior prom) dissolved my interest of finishing the race. The good news is we are still lovingly together as he is my fiancé, and in hindsight, high school proms are overrated.

I didn't went to prom. My crush had a boyfriend and my female friends already had partners, in fact all my classmates had partners. I asked a friend from another school but she already had plans for the night. But it wasn't a surprise though, I knew nobody wanted me to go, I was never part of that class. But it was fine, I didn't want to spend time with people who didn't want me around. If I'd wanted to feel undesirable, I'd have stayed home with my narcissistic mother who didn't even lived with me back then. My dad who was the only parent for me, was working and my friends from other schools were also in their proms. I lived in the country back then, and the closest neighbors were far from my house. So I walked through a little swamp area that was in front of my house at the opposite side of the road, and headed to the old watering channel. I sat at the bank of the channel and cried for like two continuous hours. I even thought about jumping into the water and let the current drown me. I was depressed already and that situation hit me really hard. I didn't jump obviously, I'm still here, even though I rather not be. Back then I had some hope that college would be better. But it wasn't. It's been 12 years since that, and now I wish I had jumped into the water. Since then everything has gone down the hill for me. I miss the hope I had back then.

Me and my high school girlfriend broke up 2 weeks before prom, which sucked on multiple levels because we had the same friends and I was finally feeling like I was happy and In the right place and time of my life. All of my friends wanted to get a limo, so I asked her if she still wanted to go, because to be honest I was more looking forward to just being with my friends than with her. She called me later that day crying and told me that she really did want to go, that she was just confused. I ended up paying for the limo for both of us since her family was poor and I had enough saved from working at subway. The whole night I kinda stayed away from her and towards my friends and had fun. On the way back, in the limo, she asked to borrow my jacket and kissed me. I was to weak to do anything about it. Then we were invited to an after party, and on the way to pick up my ex’s friend we ended up having sex in my car. It was so weird but it felt right. I ended up not drinking so I could drive us and her friend home, but the whole time at the party my ex was flirting with some guy, and it made me so uncomfortable. I told her and she just shrugged it off. I didn’t know what to do, I didn’t want to be an asshole because we weren’t dating but 20 min ago she was all over me. Then I drove them home and I told her that I wanted to have an adult conversation about what happened when we both got some rest. The next day I ask if I could meet her somewhere to talk about it and all she texted back was “I don’t love you, I’m sorry. Someone else will.” And it broke my heart for a very long time. To long did not read; never go to prom with your ex, bros. It’s never a good idea, even if it’s not about her/him and it’s about your friends. It’s never a good idea. Edit: holy shit, 500 likes.
