Bro I could never imagine being in a brand new band, and one of the very first songs you write together goes on to be one of the most ground breaking pieces of music, and one of the most recognizeable songs in music history. That's so fucking legendary 🔥

It was actually their very first song. The guitarist came up with the riff, advertised to join a band, met Brandon who came up with the lyrics, and a legendary song was born.

How these boys have grown up. Saw them pre release of Hot Fuss at the Reading Fez Club in front of fewer than 200 people. Met the band afterwards, had a chat in a stairwell. They stared at their converse. So shy. Now look at them. Still have the signed hot fuss poster on my wall.

Coming out of my cage And I've been doing just fine Gotta gotta be down Because I want it all It started out with a kiss How did it end up like this? It was only a kiss, it was only a kiss Now I'm falling asleep And she's calling a cab While he's having a smoke And she's taking a drag Now they're going to bed And my stomach is sick And it's all in my head But she's touching his chest now He takes off her dress now Let me go And I just can't look, it's killing me And taking control Jealousy, turning saints into the sea Swimming through sick lullabies Choking on your alibis But it's just the price I pay Destiny is calling me Open up my eager eyes 'Cause I'm Mr. Brightside I'm coming out of my cage And I've been doing just fine Gotta gotta be down Because I want it all It started out with a kiss How did it end up like this? (It was only a kiss), it was only a kiss Now I'm falling asleep And she's calling a cab While he's having a smoke And she's taking a drag Now they're going to bed And my stomach is sick And it's all in my head But she's touching his chest now He takes off her dress now Let me go 'Cause I just can't look, it's killing me And taking control Jealousy, turning saints into the sea Swimming through sick lullabies Choking on your alibi But it's just the price I pay Destiny is calling me Open up my eager eyes 'Cause I'm Mr. Brightside

One thing that i love about 'Mr Brightside' is the absolute engagement and coordination that takes place between the audience and Brandon at concerts lol. I don't think I've ever seen him sing the chorus at live shows. Just leaves it to the audience and they take care of it hahaha.

Can we all agree Brandon Flowers is one of the best frontmen in the rock business today? Ronnie’s crowd control as well! Also, Ted (sub for Dave), Jake (sub for Mark), even Robbie and Taylor and the backing vocalists provide the most powerful instrumentation I’ve ever heard in rock history. One of the best live performances in Reading and in their reign as The Killers.

I often roll my eyes when I hear this played at a sporting event, in a pub, at a wedding, birthday party, funeral or work Christmas party. But the fact that it is always played at all those different types of events demonstrates its impact, and when you see it performed like this you realise how powerful it is.
