This was Kylie's first hit. She was an actress in an Australian daytime soap called Neighbours. After this several members of the cast recorded songs. Most of them one hit wonders. Kylie and co star Jason Donovan had several hits. Kylie was the most successful. A record producing team Stock, Aitken & Waterman produced Kylie and several other artists in the 80s and 90s. Rick Astley being one of the most successful

Locomotion was her first hit. "Locomotion" was released as her debut single in Australia on 13 July 1987, the week after the wedding episode of Neighbours premiered. The single became the best-selling single of the decade in Australia, according to the Kent Music Report. The success of the single resulted in Minogue travelling to London to work with record producing trio Stock Aitken Waterman in September 1987. They knew little of Minogue and had forgotten that she was arriving; as a result, they wrote "I Should Be So Lucky" while she waited outside the studio.

Neighbours was cancelled and Kylie, Jason and Guy….along with others….all returned for the final episode but as they say, nothing is final. It’s back on Freevee, a free channel on Prime and noticed in the trailer that Guy is still appearing. Heard Jason in a recent interview saying he was asked to sing the theme song but declined

Kylie is like Madonna level in much of the world, here in the US she kind of comes and goes. She had a couple of hits here in the late 80's/early 90's, kind of disappeared (while never slowing down everywhere else), and came back BIG here with "Can't Get You Out of My Head" .

At 55 and 36+ years consistently making music, there’s plenty for you to go back and explore! My favourite album and tour is Aphrodite from 2010 so I’d definitely recommend that, but her last album Disco from 2020 is a great listen too and shows her most recent work before Padam Padam with a sound I’d think you’d both enjoy… She’s huge almost everywhere outside of the USA, so I think the perception to Americans is that this is a comeback as they tend to only know ‘Can’t Get You Out of My Head’ from 2001, but to put it in to context, she’s had 9 studio albums just since 2000, and a 10th one released today (her 16th studio album overall!) … even just the last three have hit no2 (Kiss Me Once 2014), no1 (Golden 2018) and no1 (Disco 2020), and none have peaked lower than no.6 here. She’s now the ONLY female artist ever in the U.K. to have at least one no1 album in each of the last 5 decades (80s, 90s, 00s, 10s, & 20s), making her one of five other artists to ever share this achievement, alongside Paul McCartney, John Lennon, Paul Weller and Pink Floyd’s David Gilmour. And with eight no1 albums she has now overtaken Elton John and George Michael in the all-time charts leaderboard. Litetally the goddess of pop!! 🔥🙌🏼❤️

Stock Aitken Waterman (SAW) produced a wide range of pop music during their peak in the late 1980s and early 1990s. They were known for creating catchy and commercially successful songs, primarily in the dance-pop and Hi-NRG (high-energy) genres. Some of the artists and songs they produced include: Kylie Minogue: "I Should Be So Lucky" "The Loco-Motion" Rick Astley: "Never Gonna Give You Up" "Together Forever" Jason Donovan: "Too Many Broken Hearts" "Sealed with a Kiss" Bananarama: "Venus" Dead or Alive: "You Spin Me Round (Like a Record)" Samantha Fox: "Touch Me (I Want Your Body)" Hazel Dean: "Whatever I Do (Wherever I Go)" Lonnie Gordon: "Happenin' All Over Again" These are just a few examples of the many hit songs produced by Stock Aitken Waterman. They were known for their signature sound, which included upbeat rhythms, catchy melodies, and polished production values. Their work with these artists helped them achieve chart-topping success in various countries and left a significant mark on the pop music landscape of their era.

This was part of the “Stock, Aitken, Waterman” generation. They were a writing and production company that found a ‘formula’ they could work to that produced lots and lots of ‘Pop’ songs like this! They created so many hits the were commonly referred to as “The Hit Factory”. Bands like Kylie, Bananarama, Jason Donovan, Sonia, Rick Astley and Mel & Kim. Kylie left this production company in the mid 1990’s and you can see a big change in her musical style after that time.

You can't judge her off her very first song of her debut album when she has zero control of anything. Just this week she released her 16th album Tension that went No 1 in 40+ countries! She's ruled the dance floor for 5 decades with had hits in the 80s, 90s, 00s, 10s right up to right now. She has been massive everywhere except the US because of its general dislike of pop music and for anything that's not hip-hop/rap, rnb or country. Amber, if you love dance, 80s and pop you should get into her catalog because you would love it. Some of her biggest hits worth checking out are Can't Get You Out Of My Head, Love At First Sight, Get Outta My Way, All The Lovers, Say Something, Spinning Around, On A Night Like This, Slow, Dancing, I Believe In You, Time Bomb, Better The Devil You Know, What Do I Have To Do, Confide In Me, Put Yourself In My Place, Come Into My World. So a bit about Kylie. She is a global superstar that has never properly taken off in the States. She might be Australian but one could argue that the UK (and to a lesser extent, Europe) is her primary market - she was based here for a number of years, has sold the most here and holds countless records (as in accomplishments) related to her longevity. Basically she is second only to Madonna - and is considered legendary. She gained popularity as an actress in an Australian soap opera called Neighbours in the mid 80s (it was massive in the UK) and this was her first international single. It went to No. 1 in several countries and held the top spot here for 5 weeks! The rest is history. If you decide to go on this journey with her you will witness astonishing musical growth and the birth of an icon and a bonafide superstar. She is an artist not afraid to take risks and has just released her SIXTEENTH album.

Kylie=Legend! Jay would love the duet with Robbie Williams called “Kids”. But if you do that I suggest the Live Manchester 2000 version. Kylie has an incredible catalog dating back to 1979. Her version of “The Locomotion” is one to react to as well. Bottom line, you can’t go wrong with Kylie. Keep reacting and keep smiling!!! 🇨🇦

Fun fact When I was in High School in the late 80s, I had a penpal from Perth Australia. She liked to write about her favorite actress/singer Kylie Minogue. She would go on about the soap opera she was in and how she was topping the Australian charts with her music. A few months after this I heard Kylie Minogue's version of Loco-Motion, even then it took me a few weeks to realize this was the same person that my pen pal raved about. Kylie never hit it really big here in the US as she did the rest of the world. She was basically a one-hit wonder in the US until Can't Get You out of My Head came out. Even then she is one of those artists that has a hit in America then nothing for a long time then something else will make the charts, but she does well in the rest of the world.

Jay makes me laugh. His body language screamed he hated it. I loved it as it was number one forever back in the late 80s in the UK and it brings back happy carefree memories for me. There is a massive back catalogue of Kylie now to check out - cheesy as well as classy. Go explore!

You guys recently reacted to Carole King. She wrote the song "The Locomotion" which was one of Kylie Minogue's first US hits. It came from this same 1988 album. She broke the year after Australia's mega group INXS's epic album "KICK." This produced by Stock Aiken and Waterman by team that blew uo Rick Astley and Bananarama.

Stock, Aitken, and Waterman (record producers/songwriting team) were responsible for sooooo many act in the 80's. Bananarama, Rick Astley, Mel & Kim, to name a few. Kylie had come over to London, and S A W had like an hour to get her a song to record, before flying back to Australia. They quickly wrote this. Was massive. Jay - her songs get better!!! Stick with it LOL You should check out Spinning Around too! Same era as Can't Get You Out Of My Head.

If you really want the opposite end of the Kylie spectrum check out Where The Wild Roses Grow with Nick Cave, from what’s called her Indie Kylie period. Another duet (suggested earlier) I suspect Jay would prefer is Kids with my former next door neighbour Robbie Williams.

This was Kylie’s first big hit in the UK, where we’ve been enjoying a ‘love affair’ with the antipodean pop princess for DECADES, from this song in the late ‘80s up to today. So so many great songs for you to discover. 2 weeks ago she did a concert in my home town (central England). I couldn’t go, but I could hear the music from about 5 miles away in my garden! 😆

She flew from Australia to England to work with producers Stock, Aitken and Waterman, who completeley forgot she was waiting to meet them and record a song. One of the guys, when he realized about it, said something like: "poor girl, she should be so lucky"... and then they had the song that started quite a bunch of hits with her.

Interesting. As a NZ subscriber this video was geo-blocked by WMG. Thank you Express VPN. IN the 80s Kylie was part of the Stock Aitken Waterman (SAW) stable on the back of her "Neighbours" soap success. SAW also had artists like Rick Astley, Bananarama, Dead or Alive, Mel & Kim, as well as her ex "Neighbours" co-star and love interest, Jason Donovan. Back then she was dubbed the "singing budgie" for her poppy, average songs. Then she met Michael Hutchence. Then she became a true pop diva.

I remember when this came out! This & her cover of Locomotion...then she disappeared from US charts until I Can't Get You Out of My Head. She never took off here the way she deserved. But she's HUGE overseas, not just IN Australia itself. You ask if she's 80s, 90s? Yes. Kylie spans decades, and is still going. She puts on a fun live show.

Kylie is from Australia and was originally in a long running Soap Opera called Neighbours. Her love interest interest in the series was played a gentleman called Jason Donovan who also broke out into the Musical world. In fact they did a song together. Kylie was in the same Musical Stable as Rick Astley.

Check out her ‘ middle years ‘ 90’s and early 2000’s Spinning Around , Shocked , Put Yourself In My Place , Some Kind of Bliss , Give Me Just A Little More Time . I was 14 when this song came out. I remember my teenage friends and I getting stupidly excited by that part of the video when Kylie's in the bath, blows the bubbles off her hand and smiles. Rather pathetically, even now I am 50, I still find that quite a turn on. Kylie will always be a dream for me, and, I suspect, many men of my generation.

I was surprised she is the highest selling artists from Australia. I think Jay should prospective that, with AC/DC---the 2nd best selling album of all time plus 17 other albums. Olivia Newton John --with the best selling single of the 80's "Physical". The Bee Gees, whom Jay loves!, INXS, Air Supply, Savage Garden. The list goes on. That is an impressive feat by Kylie Minogue.
