SHE LOVES YOU - THE BEATLES (Cover)

So, here it is - my final reiteration of this song...I think it's my fourth attempt over the years? This is as close as I'm going to get! The goal was to recreate the sound of the original, so I recorded and mixed it the same way - except in true stereo. As per the original, the lead vocals are single tracked. Additionally, the only overdubs are a doubling of the "yeah, yeah yeahs" (I assume the band did this to emphasize the hook) as well as George's famous lead guitar riffs between the verses (like the one at 0:11).
Couple big changes for me in the last year - you might notice I've got braces on, which is a ton of fun as an adult ;) It took me a while to learn how to sing again, so my apologies for the delay in new videos (and the hair growth between guitars and vocals, haha). I got braces to fix a jaw issue (TMJ) that has been bothering me for some time, and weirdly enough I think they've helped my singing ability. I've only got a few months left, but for now you can see braceface Nick in all his metal-mouth glory! Rock and roll, man!
Also, the Hofner - here's the first video where I'm really showing it off. What a bass, and that "boomy" tone is really iconic in these early records. I was fortunate enough to get one of the real handmade German ones (just like Paul's), and it took over a year to arrive. You can see that mine has some nice "bearclaw" spruce marks on the wood! Officially retiring the Rogue...for now.
How did I get this sound? Well, a few ways. Abbey Road plugins, especially the echo chamber, really help on vocals. As for the vocals, I used a trick for variation. I sang John's part normally. For Paul's part, I sang at a slower tape speed, so when played back normally it would sound like a different person. George's part was done by the wifey, Irais! If I wanted to do this exactly like the record, I should probably have used a J-160E...but I don't have a Gibson, so this is probably more similar to a live performance from 1964.

You performed things close to identical to the source. Great sound. But I also enjoyed tiny details that are unique to your rendition. Just the amazingly little differences (like how you sort of trill the "......pride can hurt you toOOoo".) Loved how you milked the pause at the end. I laughed. In a good way. I've had to go through the singing with braces episode. Interesting times. Like the new bass, though the old one was no slouch. Great idea on your Paul lines recording approach and using the extra voice available to you.

@@SylentEcho Well, hehe, you'll be glad to know that I am from Uruguay. Montevideo to be specific. That's why I recognized the album so quickly. And Los Shakers are the best band that passed through my country. We have had more good bands (and that, considering that Uruguay is too small and has only 3 and a half million inhabitants), but Los Shakers captured the spirit and essence of the Beatles and translated it into the Uruguayan, mixing Merseybeat with rhythms from the region such as candombe, bossa nova and tango.

It sure is! That said, I think most of my improvement over the years has been on the technical side of things. If I had a setup like George Martin + Abbey Road 10 years ago, my tracks would have been a whole lot better! Back in the day I didn't have access to fancy studio plugins, and I was mixing most of that stuff on 4-track recorders. :)

@@NickMartellaro I think this song was originally recorded on a 2-track machine, and 4-tracks later in '63 allowed more layering of the recording. Back in those days they had to walk uphill in the snow to school!

Sorry for the late reply - I earn pennies (literally). With KZbin, you don't have to pay royalties because Google already did. However, when I upload a copyrighted track, their system auto-detects it and the majority of any revenue is given to the publisher (EMI/Sony/etc).
