I have sympathy for people who fall on hard times. However, bad tenants not paying their relatively meager rent is a major reason for housing scarcity in many parts of the world, not just in Nigeria. No one wants to evict a good tenant. Each time, I have to evict a tenant here in America, it pains me. I derive joy in renting to tenants based on their need for housing. Often, “no good deed goes unpunished”!

This mama reminds me of a similar matter I had handled. The tenant admitted owing 6 years rent, but told the Court he didn't want to leave the apartment.😂😂 The thing with tenants like this, they will destroy things in the apartment. The landlord has to spend money fixing the apartment before letting it out. Sadly in most cases, you never recover the rent owed. Few defaulting tenants pay rent owed.
