My wife bought me first guitar (acoustic) when I was 25 and I'm completely self taught with a lot of help from Marty. I barely played it for a decade, just off and on. 43 now and I've learned more in the past year than in 17 years. I still play on the same acoustic and I'm actually recording my first full song this weekend. This year was the first year that I could sing while playing. That break through took a long time, but worth all the frustration and effort. If I can learn to sing and play, anybody can. Never give up.👍🏻

Dude you started early enough, dont worry my man. I started guitar at 25, im 28 now and i play/practice everyday, literally, without exception everyday. I played other instruments but no stringed instruments until 25y/o. Ive heard of guys starting in their 50s and they sound decent. Its all about enjoying yourself and expressing your thoughts and emotions, its not about how good you are compared to others. Everyone can improve, even the best if the best.

So if she started at 9 or 10, and at 16 she is this good, it gives us new players a range of years to get better. You are inspiring young lady!
@thejakefromstatefarm6768

Everyone learns and progresses at their own pace. You could move along faster than she did or you could take alot longer to progress. It depends alot on how much time you put into in those years. If you want to get good you should always have a guitar in your hands. Just noodleing or whatever. It’s not about how much time it takes to learn it’s about how much time you put into learning.

Thanks, Marty! It is awesome to see young people picking up the guitar and getting really good at a young age. I must say, as someone who got told back in the day that 'Girls don't play the electric guitar! You can have piano lessons, but that's it!' - it is great to see young women who are drawn to playing guitar NOT having those barriers in their way. Rock On, Grace!

If you can always try to find the best player around in the genre your trying to learn, because if you just learn all the basics on guitar a certain way, it's like pointing you at a direction, say if you want to play country vs rock, or folk singer type song writer stuff, there's definitely ways to curve learning

Graces parents made the mistake a lot of parents, including mine, make. Buying a cheap guitar can ruin the dream of making music. My cheap guitar had such high action that it made my fingertips bleed. Give your kids a decent guitar for them to learn on. If they decide not to continue with guitar playing you can always sell it and get her or him a nice drum set😵‍💫.

Nah I’m all for people, especially kids, starting with something horrible. If they really want to play, it won’t stop them. My first guitar was $40 off Amazon with high enough action to use it as a bow and the neck was the thickest I have seen on any guitar to date…I still played it every single day for a year. If they have the passion and desire to play, they will. If they will be so discouraged by a cheap guitar that they give up, then they weren’t meant to play.
