Many people say “she needs therapy, professional help not a tv show” but that people forget that for you to seek help you need to admit that you have the problem first and that is what this show does. Even the mom that sent the concern didn’t think it was so severe. I think in this cases they probably tell people to seek professional help after the show. The show is only for people recognize their problem and give them courage to face it and talk about it. Mental health issues need professional help of course but make people talk about it and show that you don’t need to be ashamed helps a lot and gives people the courage to seek help. This is just my opinion of course. P.S.: English is not my first language, sorry for any mistake
@chickenmcnuggets92386 жыл бұрын
Definitely. Especially in Korea (or most asian countries) the society may not be very forgiving when it comes to mental illness. Even if it is just going for therapist, others may just assume that she's "crazy" etc when she may not be diagnose with mental health issues. People do tend to forget that it is not easy to speak about your problems on a national TV that their friends and families will most probably see it (and might mock at you)

People need to *stop jumping on the OCD bandwagon and start diagnosing people as OCD.* This is germophobia. You can be OCD and also suffer from germophobia (eg. routinely wash hands) *but* being a germaphobe does not mean you have OCD. One is a specific mental disorder, the other is a phobia which does not necessitate a mental disorder (eg. many people have Acrophobia but not to the extant of it manifesting as an anxiety disorder). The distinction is clear cut. This video alone does not provide enough information to know whether she has OCD but it's likely she has germophobia. OCD is a much more complex psychological disorder than 'constant need for cleanliness'. People suffering from severe OCD have such compulsive thoughts and rituals to the degree that it impedes on the functions of their daily lives. For example, they could keep washing their hands even they have already done so because the thought of them touching something dirty keeps coming back to their mind. They know the hand is clean but they cannot stop thinking about it. Her willingness to high five the hosts (without obvious signs of discomfort) may be a sign that her case is not _that_ severe.
@soshinae6 жыл бұрын
But, either it germaphobia or ocd, this girl need help.. Not some tv show.. That's the message we are trying to convey..
@Taeng9Pany6 жыл бұрын
touché, but you can pretty much say that to everyone that appears on the show. The TV show is all about bringing knowledge and publicity to 'concerns' which are normally hidden away. This allows them to face their issues. The whole purpose of the show is to evaluate the 'concern' and bring awareness so they become 'less taboo' and allow for an environment where people realise their 'concerns' are problematic and let them know that it is nothing to be ashamed of to correct their issues. There have been many follow up cases where people have since sought medical help for their problems and it is obvious they have much better self-esteem and no longer view themselves as an outcast in the rather conservative Korean society

@sunnysunshine92106 жыл бұрын
Firstly that is wrong about ocd suffers can't focus on a task for an extended period of time. If you have ocd or know someone you have to remember everyone is different and there are many different forms of ocd. I have it very severe and I have three forms of it which two forms are severe to the point it does ruin my life. Other part about the high-five doesn't mean anything either, as I do have contamination as one of them and you have no idea if she had to go and wash her hands afterwards or after the show ended and how long she had to wash and had to wash her clothes, plus she probably didn't want to look rude and also people with ocd that has contamination can touch people but we have ways to deal with things if we think our hands, clothes, parts of the body has been contaminated. And most sufferers put a mask on unless they can't hide it and people think you're werid by your actions. Can't pursume it isn't severe just by going by the high five as you have no idea what thoughts are going through her head and ocd aren't just about rituals they're also about trusive thoughts. And I often put a smile on my face to hide my anxiety and that all the time and try to hide it and avoid alot of things and places.

My friends actually used to drink water noisily in front of me to irritate me and when I put my fingers in my ears they would get offended (?) Gulping for me is so bad that my sister and my mom scold me because I keep telling them to stop. They say they can't control it. But I don't understand how you CAN'T control Gulping. Sometimes, just sometimes, I accidentally gulp and then I want to kill myself right there.

This is just mysophobia. Compulsive habits but not full-blown ocd. I have it and my doctor diagnosed that I've learned to be able to live with it so he just gave me a pamphlet for info and told me to use moisturizer since wet wipes and constantly washing your hands dries them out. It's just a minor hindrance in life. You just gotta set aside $40 every month for Lysol spray, hand sanitizer, wet wipes and Clorox wipes.

Like everyone said, this is a case of OCD. What she needs isn't a TV show but therapy before it becomes worse. The child is correct everything is dirty in a sense but she has to understand that some dirt is fine and acceptable. Her health can be in danger if she doesn't take care of it quick. I can never understand how parents think it's better to go on this show rather than seek professional help. Professional help would be less embarrassing and more helpful for the child.

i relate so heavily to this poor girl. i have crippling ocd that places a heavy burden on everything i do. the fact that korea is so oblivious to mental health issues truly saddens me to my core. i really hope she receives help and develops healthy coping mechanisms. i don’t know if she has ocd, or just mysophobia, but this is a debilitating struggle. i also have the same phobia, a part of my ocd, and do so many of the same compulsions she does daily. my hands would bleed, even in the summer, from washing them too much. i even took several showers a day, and a trash can was my first trigger as well. i felt that i could visually spot the contamination spreading like wildfire through the room and my body. i use my wrists to hold me up too because i don’t like using my hands. saliva also gives me anxiety, and i wore gloves for a long time. i carry 2 packs of wipes, and 3 hand sanitizers with me, and would also watch to make sure my family washed their hands. i don’t go out to eat much because i don’t trust the restaurants to properly clean the utensils. the fact that the family and those on the panel are making fun of peoples obsessions and compulsions upset me because we can’t help what we think. when you have ocd, if you dont wash your hands, or touch a certain area, or look a certain way, your mind won’t let you think of anything else, and i’ve almost purposely knocked myself out to make the urges stop several times.

sighs. i suffered from this too. this made me have trouble finding friends in high school because they would sit on the floor and have a chat while i preferred to come early to school just to pick a clean chair lmao. on college new students activities, i was glad i had no close friend yet because i could choose where i'd like to sit which had to be clean. when you're with friends you have to be considerate of them so you can't do that. i didn't eat on my campus cafeteria until 2nd year bcs i found it dirty to eat there. basically it kinda ruined my social life. even until now i clean the stuffs that fall to the ground when i'm outside. i have broken many pens/pencils already bcs i tried to wash them lol. i bought new eraser too if the old one had fallen to the ground. i'm not sure if i want to change, though.

Whoa..okay since you're aware that its affecting your social and school life, I think you do want to change. A considerate friend would take you seriously and help you overcome through this, you must have courage to let yourself experience all of this. I'm not a serious germaphobe, although i do clean my stationery and wash my hands often. I had a case of blisters a year ago and my doctor told me it was because i kept my hands too clean, i practically scraped off any natural protective layer and good bacteria off. Only the vicious bacteria remained, and attacked at when my skin was dry and defenseless. My mindset towards cleanliness changed, and i feel much better about just letting things go a little.

@@yume2626 my friends and my family just told me i'm overreacting. i had one good friend in hs which helped me go through it but now that i have new friends in college, i don't make it obvious that i'm uncomfortable. i would just excuse myself and tend to tone it down. sometimes i'd ask them "if this ever happened to you, you would be okay with it right?" to make a suggestion to myself that i should too be okay with it like everyone else. are your hands okay now? i used to clean my hands a lot in a day and carry a hand sanitizer around but i'm kinda better now :) i started to lessen it since the last time i was staying in a rented room? near my college, i washed my hand whenever i touched the door, the key, the cupboard, the table, etc since i simply found the room wasn't my "clean zone". since then my hand got dry so bad now i live in my house again and my skin condition is so much better. i'm sorry for my long comment lol. i hope you can get over it soon :)

@@rsa3264 sorry to hear that your friends and family told you that. Its difficult for them to imagine what we're going through since they don't understand it. I think its cool of you to react positively to it, and normalise it with your friends. I used to think that this is something that I should be ashamed of (i was teased of being too "princessy"), but now that I've matured, I know that this is something I have control over, and I can slowly let things go, one by one. For instance I let go my hand sanitizer! It's really difficult but I know that using the hand sanitizer is what contributes to my blisters. I had to take control and let it go. I've never gotten blisters since then :) I also shop for hand creams that I love! The scent comforts me and its soothing for my dry hands. Its just assuring to know I have a layer to shield my skin.
