Good video, Mike. I would like to suggest that you invest in a set of Quick Jacks. Not as good as a lift but it definitely make getting repairs done beneath the cars much easier.

Did Mike score a good one? Especially a V12 Mercedes? I would guess the former owner ran out of caring and when problems happened they just decided to move it along. It is is now back in caring hands and you will look good around town in it. Who is having more fun? You or Randy with transmission work.

Mike I like your youtube videos. I just have one question, why do you like Benz's so much? They were overpriced when brand new, lose most of their value within a few years, are unreliable and pricey to fix. I get that they give a plush and comfy ride on the highways but so did that 1970's Buick Regal Randy (AAR) bought and drove from NY with you a bit ago. Plus the Regal had no real issues on the drive (something that could not be said about a10 year old Benz in the same situation). It seems that after 1985 (the last year of the bullet proof 300E), Mercedes have gotten less reliable. Anyway, keep up the good work with the videos

My obsession began when my father brought home a used 1980 300SD. Man, I loved that car. Even loved the “yellow/tan” paint! Lol
@nanopiebald2 жыл бұрын
It depends on your definition of “reliable.” Yes, when they are new, they are one of the more expensive choices of vehicles on the market. Especially when you look at an S600/S65/G550/G63/65. The V12 engine itself is a “reliable” engine and can be driven well over 100k with no issues engine-wise. The transmission is also very durable and reliable. I happen to own an S600 biturbo W221 for about 10 years now, and it has never left me stranded. It has close to 40k on it now which shows I have not enjoyed it like I should - I also have an S55 AMG, but the Kompressor variant, which is newer than the one in these videos. It has 273k miles on it and is my daily driver. The M113 engine in the S430/S500/S55 is one of Mercedes’ best V8s produced IMO. The M112 in the E320 is also a very reliable engine. I got interested in Mercs many years ago when I was 16, and drove my friend’s parent’s 1986 300E the purchased new. That car left an impression on me, and in a twist of events I own it now, and it just turned over 45k miles. The 300E was last produced officially in 1992/1993 and they changed the naming convention of their vehicles which it then became known as the E-Class as you are likely aware. I agree that the 300E was ahead of its time in 1986, and was designed to be driven as long as you wanted to maintain it. I also have had two 300D Turbo Diesels (W123) which shared the same design philosophy.
@nanopiebald2 жыл бұрын
FWIW - I also have a Buick that does not say “Regal” on it, but is clearly a “Regal” but has “Grand National” emblems on it and was made in 1987 vs the 1970’s. It is a favorite of mine as well.

I really love bay body style/generation! Let me ask you mike, you got that beautiful Amg from randy, do you still have it ? Also, which gen do you like better? (Not power wise, we both know the newer amg is faster and has more power obviously, but fit and finish wise, quality wise, quietness, comfort, and how things feel to the touch,etc. which generation Is better in your eyes and by how far?
