The LCD instrument clusters are known to fail in the W220's pretty commonly. Especially now since the cars are hitting 20+ years old. The eBay repair service is around $150 and removing the instrument cluster takes like 10 seconds using the keys.

Mike where did you get your mechanical want to/desire from? I appreciate the fact that you demonstrate the desire to repair your cars without needing a two post lift thousands of dollars in specialty tool, you do it with normal stuff a jack and jack stands. Thanks for some real down to earth videos.

I know it's not a factory fix but... you could pick up some thin aluminum flat stock (1/16") and epoxy it to the headlights to make some tabs to secure them. You could hit it with some paint to camouflage the repair. That's probably what I'd do, but then again, I'm not as meticulous as you are. Just a thought.

Dream on Mike, it is NEVER over when you have a full stable of German Cars. Let it sit for a week and go back, and it will have many new gremlins.

I have an 05 SL500 in the shop now that came in from another shop. It had the battery light on and wouldn't go away. They replaced both batteries and the alternator. WE replaced the alternator with a factory M/B unit and the battery control module. Still acting up. I finally tracked things down to no communication with the right SAM. Replaced the right SAM and no more battery message. BUT, the left headlight would blink on and off..... Yes, the ballast is good. Replaced the left SAM and all id good with the SL500 world now. SO........ YES...... SAMs control a ton of stuff.

131st! I own 2 Mercedes Benz’ 1994 300CE, and a 2015 S550 4matic. Have done a lot of work replacing broken plastic interior pieces and topped off fluids. Had an issue with the dash lights, but after talking about taking it in to have them fixed, after 3 years of them not working, to the 2015, the next day the dash lights decide to work. And have ever since. I think he didn’t want to be in a non-heated garage again. As it did when I had to have the convertible hydraulics fixed and replaced. The only person that I could find that worked on that issue was in Denver,750 miles away. He sat at that I heated garage for about a month until the parts came in for the fix. I know my limitations! The only thing I’ve done with the 2015 is check the oil. But would love to find 20inch chrome AMG wheels that don’t cost me $3000. eBay wants a small fortune for a set. Any suggestions on how I could find some a little more reasonable? Roger in Pierre South Dakota

I also have to ask, why don’t you use Electrical contact cleaner on electrical parts before inserting them into the car. It might help with weird stuttering issues these modules seem to have.

Mike, the small difference in part numbers can also indicate a newer revision of the same part. The SAMS in particular have been very problematic MB has made many revisions of these parts. If you went to MB to replace them they would probably order the newest revision of the part and manually setup the coding to replicate the options of the car. The sams are coded to the car, ideally you are looking for a SAM from a donor verhicle with similar trim level. If the SAM comes from a bock standard one but has the right part number it will not work. There is an option in XENTRY to migrate data from and old SAM to a new donor one. Ideally you want the newest revision of the SAM with the correct options.

MIKE!!! All those people Calling for you to remove the LED lights are doing it for ONE REASON....They cause HUGE PROBLEMS in wiring looms that haven't been designed to accept them (ie 90's-00's). All the weird electrical gremlins you are getting are those effing cheap LEDS!!!! Cut them out of the System before you spend anymore of you hard earned cash!!! They will mess with the new modules you have just installed - Please we are trying to do you a favour!!! Good luck from the UK!!

Hi Mike, I have been watching your 600 videos with great interest. Looking at these corroded connectors with white crystalline build up points to a lead / copper corrosion similar to battery terminal corrosion. This is a somewhat uncommon form of connector corrosion compared to battery terminals as those connectors are not exposed to battery acid or the associated venting of hydrogen gas. This raises the questions on how and to what these connectors were exposed to besides water? Is this a flood vehicle from an coastal area which was flooded in brack or salt water? If so, then you may want to check all modules and especially the instrument cluster for similar corrosion. Your buddy Peter from Kansas
