She's an excellent actress. She didn't stay mainstream but that may be better for her simply because she wants to do challenging roles as opposed to just commercial films. But your point has some validity.

She is extremely beautiful, and as an actress she's very good. This movie probably is remembered by most for being funny and maybe they even think the acting is good. It's hard to act badly. Everyone here does a fine job, but she is really the only one whose role requires her character to change and reveal depth. The best part of this film is Rachael Leigh Cook. It's apparent not just in screen presence, but in certain nuances and reactions that are absolutely spot on. I know Freddy Prinze was the main draw for this movie, the actor who made it a bankable film, but anyone who knows acting would tell you she was the brightest star by far in this film.

That bully reminds me of the girl who bullied me all through middle school and high school, I got my hair dyed pink a year after graduation, my friends were dumb enough to let me meet them at IHOP with her there, KNOWING that I damn well don’t get along with her, but since I had my hair dyed, and it was a year since we graduated, she started acting like she had just met me and that her bullying me never happened, than she made fun of my speech impediment, and since she was maybe PRETENDING not to remember what she did to me all those years in school, I just went along with it and assumed I would give her another chance since I believe everyone deserves a second chance, and she was best friends with my crush at the time, so I was like, “I’ll try this again, and maybe this time it’ll work out, and it’ll make my crush happy to see us talking and spending time with each other.” Maybe a year later, without talking, they suddenly start planning to hang out without me, and than when I told them how angry I was that they left me out and even started a whole conversation for hours without mentioning me, that girl just started calling me a “bitch”, and to “grow up”, I told her straight up that I had given her another chance and that she abused it, than she gets my other friends involved. LESSONS FROM THIS STORY: Be careful who you give second chances to. If one person was mean to you, don’t expect them to change. Don’t feel like you have to be friends with someone just because they are friends with your crush/friend.

When Taylor brought up Laney's dad being a pool-man, I wanted Laney to bring up whatever it was her parents did. I could never remember it but figured it had something to do with making a lot of money but basically is a fancy word for a salesman, and then find some way of bringing up the fact that as little as 100 years beforehand then it would mean that neither of them would be allowed front door access to anyone important's house - servants and tradesmen, back door only. The art thing, the daddy issues, the antisocial by choice; I actually thought it was not gonna be another cliched, conventional bet-“love” story. But man was I wrong. The rest of the movie was a slap in the face to what I thought it’d be. Worst part is that the guy never says “I’m sorry” to the girl, asshole. But yeah, I was curious since everyone was dragging Addison Rae’s remake, but it’s not like the original was good either.

This was the MOST cringest scene I've ever saw in a movie, I literally had to pause for a min and then watch. It was so cringy and bad lmao. The way she didn't slap her and ran off, it was just very awkward to watch XD I got second hand embarrassment with Laney.
