They didn't know her closely, plus, she didn't have, nor she didn't show a nice personality towards her classmates. She had different and opposite activities to what they used to do. She used to go around with overalls and covered with paint, another way she didn't care about her appearance. "Cute" wasn't what they were looking for, if not, the type of "popular girl". Like this scene shows at 1:01 even people who knew her, they knew she had a personality hard to deal with. When Zack and Laney started their relationship, not only Sack improved in different aspects, she also did.

It made over 100 million while the others (Bring It On, Can't Hardly Wait, Cruel Intentions, Varsity Blues, Pretty in Pink) all made between 25-50 million. American Beauty and American Pie both made over 300 million, but they were only minor parodies for NATM. She's All That was a cultural phenomenon at the time, like the Titanic of 90s teen romantic comedies.
