I love the way your dad talks to all the animals when he feeds them and he makes sure each animal has their share and he doesn't get the food in their face...Also my grandpa had a farm and You Never name an animal if it's going to be butchered for meat...If you name it it's a pet and you dont eat your pets

When you do free-range don't be surprised to find eggs in odd places but it is worth it. My family did that when I was young and we'd find them under parked cars, by the rose bushes, and even in the horse feeder, it's like having an Easter-egg hunt on a daily basis. Jamie and Lester find them hidden in/on the stacked hay rounds...brave souls for climbing up on them [couldn't do it at my age now]. Shrimp is getting healthier every day thanks to you and Grandpa Ralph, continued blessings.

Glad to hear you are getting to know Lester and Jami. I've been a fan of theirs for years. They have hearts of gold, and they are decent modest people. I love them even more than most of my blood family. Lester can lay down next to Moo and use him for a big pillow. Moo is the cuddles " big galoot" on the internet. Lol

I haven't trusted my younger Great Pyrs with the chicken but I have a rescue who was 1.5 yrs. when I got him. He was amazing for the first month but then he decided to play with them. I moved him to an area with fewer chickens, some cats and some ducks and he quit being a pain. It has been more than six months and he now is with all the birds and some chicks and ducklings and Bourbon Red turkeys. He doesn't molest anyone. He will shoo them from his food but not hurt them. I love this dog. He is one of 7 Pyrs.

Hi, You have done your homework and make good decisions. I have a relative who has chickens. She lets them free range all day. It has been working out great for a few years now. When I've "babysat" the chickens, it's wonderful. Let them out in morning, close the door at night. I love the way they come running when I scatter veggie/fruit peelings etc. They love being petted. I hum and cluck to them and it seems they like that...lol. I think the automatic door is amazing. Hoping you and the boys have a super day. Tysm for posting and letting folks share your experience.

Shrimp is such a handsome bull calf, you should leave him intact and when he is old enough offer him as a stud to some of the local dairy farmers in your area. You could possibly use that service to barter for other things.

I have a German Shepherd that does the same as Smokey! Herding is in their Gene's! The puppy in my dog made him a little too pushy and he squished a couple of the chickens into the coop fence! Now that he is 4yrs and I have no problems with them free ranging. I have an Automatic door as well!! God Bless and have a Wonderful Week!! 😀⚘❤

Lester or really Jami might want a turkey for Cornholio, he’s got no luck with the ladies 😂🙈 I think Red might be the perfect match for him. Now if you go visit them you should really have a look at Copper, Jakes rescue. As for Smokey and Red.. I think all it is, is that Smokey knows that Red is supposed to be inside the pen and is trying to help you, Red is also bigger than the chickens so Smokey might see her like someone to play with. Anyway that’s my 2 cents ❤️

As long as the chickens know their home coop they will return to it. The only trouble I have is when one of the chickens get through the fence onto the neighbor's property and can't get back. I think Red is territorial more so than the others. We have a Hereford cow that is about five feet at her withers and probably weighs around a ton. Her half brother was our herd bull and in his prime weighed 2400#. I am 5'5" and have a hard time brushing her back. She also doesn't fit into our cattle chute. Most of our cows and bulls were show cattle, so they are quite tame.

Not sure if anyone has said this, you may already know as well. I watched the video of catching the roosters. If you're going to catch and move chickens or roosters as you mentioned moving your layers, go in just before dark and they are sleeping and ready to be picked up and moved. They start to wake up slowly so they don't startle.

Great Pyrenees. We have two pyredoodles. They are members of our family. Loving, caring, super protective, and stubborn as shit. But so are the rest of my Irish/Mexican family.

She still has a lot of puppy energy! I tell mine those are your chickens and your guineas. She definitely wants to check them out. You might have to try it a couple of times letting the turkeys out while you are there to supervise. Or hold the turkeys and let her smell them so she can recognize them as belonging to you.

You could always use a product called Miracle II. It can be added to their water, and it will keep the bugs off of your animals. Due to the fact, the bugs will die, if they try and bite them. Nice animal lessons, learn a lot. When, I use to fight with my pup, I'd always use a glove. That way, if a stranger shows up, and they are wearing gloves, the dog will "play" with them, but they might just run. Ha!
