On episode 51 of She's with the Band, the show that aims to amplify the voices of women and femme people on stage, backstage, and in the business, host Tori Kravitz chats with Tara, Mercedes & Morgan from nu metal legends Kittie.
This in-person chat takes us back to years ago when Kittie was a young band starting to gain quick traction on a global scale. Tara, Mercedes & Morgan discuss how they feel grateful today to be supported by some other metal icons after their triumphant return to the scene. The band also discuss their recent singles to hype their fans up for the release of their first full-length album in 13 years, Fire, due for release on June 21st.

They have evolved more than any band I’ve ever heard. Comparing Spit to Fire is literally like comparing 2 completely different bands. The last two albums they released, In the Black & I’ve Failed You, have some of the best written songs from Kittie. Whether they’re playing a melodic thrash metal song w/ elements of death/gothic metal & doom/sludge that is filled with bluesy influenced solos… And then the next song can be a beautiful melodic alternative tune w/ amazing melodies, elements of stoner sludge rock like in “What Have I Done”. As they evolved with every release, Fire is no different. It showcases yet more evolution from their last albums and proves just what a cohesive unit they are! Another amazing quality about Kittie is how their sound doesn’t fit into any one category, instead incorporating so many genres into their music. Morgan’s vocals have matured greatly and not just her scathing screams but her cleans have gotten so much better and her ranges in both is such an improvement and their evolution is such an amazing improvement for the band. It’s no wonder why nearly everyone has been praising their new songs. It’s about time this underrated and improved band got the respect & recognition they deserve! I couldn’t be happier for them! 🖤💜♥️🖤

Correct. It's like every album they get better. Some bands don't have that longevity and some bands just stay the same. The only band I can think of that gotten better overtime is Walls of Jericho.

Just watched them play at Sonic Temple over the weekend. It was hot, sweaty, crowd packed like sardines but I loved every second of it!! I was blown away by how many people were singing along to the lyrics and rocking out. So happy to see these ladies get the support they deserve. Already got my ticket for Chicago in August. 🤘

I was a little kid when my dad introduced me to them. Spit was a big part of my childhood cuz I was super stoked to see an all female metal group (since I didn’t see that at the time). It showed me that women were being welcomed in a male dominated genre. I’m now in my 30’s and I’m super happy for them to be making this mind blowing and much deserved comeback!! 🤘 The new album fucking rocks and you can hear the growth. Such an awesome time for them and I’m proud to have been a fan all these years

Most likely this is what they meant. They put their whole heart into. Great music and such. But the crowd wasn't there. The money wasn't there. They used lot of breathing well lost of lot of breathing. They needed to stop for a bit to breath back and think for a while and mature. Wait for the right time. And right now is truely the right time. Their new album is much better. Lot of old band that stop playing are back together. Pantera, Static-x, Slayer, so forth is coming back. The space to relax and breath give you a new mind set. Like working at alaska as general labor for 16 hours, 3 months straight no day off. Well I did had some few day off getting sick and body breaking down but after season i relax and got my mental state back. Either way Kittie is a fantastic band and welcome back GALS :)
